Figure 01 shows how the animation frames really look, with the green screen behind and the characters are actually strapped to a box for this shot. Figure 02 is with green screen removed and ready to composite the CG car in place.

I place the characters as an image plane so I could get an idea of where the dashboard and seats needed to be positioned.

After Effects composite. Dashboard in the foreground, characters, then the rest of the car, there is also a temporary scenery image behind the car showing through the windows. I added different amounts of lens blur, a little to the dashboard and car interior then a more intense blur to the background scenery, leaving the characters in crisp focus. The next image shows the final render, to this stage. More will be done to this piece further in the project.
