April 2014 Labette Center for Mental Health Services, Inc. and Medicaid Health Homes
On July 1st, 2014 Kansas will begin the process of implementing Health Homes to KanCare members who have certain chronic conditions such as diabetes, asthma or mental illness. Individuals who will receive these serves are those who are currently KanCare consumers. Labette Center for Mental Health Services is working towards a Health Home provider designation for individuals residing in Labette County who suffer from severe mental illness. According to the KanCare website (www.kancareks.gov), . . . Health home refers to a new Medicaid option to provide coordination of physical and behavioral health care with long term services and supports. . . This is not a building of any kind and not a place where individuals live. It is the coordination of those services to find ways to best serve individuals who fit the criteria and help them achieve better outcomes for their health. Health homes focus on a person as a whole and help them to manage all their health care needs. By doing this, it is believed to be much more likely these individuals will have greater success in maintaining their health. Labette Center is excited at the prospect of further improving the quality of the lives we interact with. stated Matthew Atteberry, LSCSW, executive director of LCMHS. The KanCare Health Home initiative is a new and powerful way to make a positive impact, and we intend to provide a high quality product to the KanCare members that choose us. Labette Center strives to provide the best care possible for those we serve throughout Labette County. Deb Williams, MHA, has been named as the Home Health Coordinator for Labette Center and has been hard at work completing all the requirements to become a Health Home Partner. Mental Health First Aid Course

Labette Center for Mental Health Services will be holding an Adult Mental Health First Aid course on Tuesday April 29th, 2014 from 8:00am to 5:30 pm. The course will be held at Labette Centers main facility located at 1730 Belmont Parsons KS in the multi-purpose room. able to provide to this community. Along with Williams, the Center will employ two care coordinators and peer support specialists that will be focused on the Health Homes model. The Center will also be looking to expand staff to include a registered nurse who will assist in providing these services. This person will have the primary function of managing the full array of behavioral health needs, physical health needs and support social services and family services. In the Health Home model there are six key services that the Center will provide. These include care coordination, comprehensive care management, health promotion, comprehensive transitional care, member and family services and referral to community services and supports. The Health Home will be for any member of the Labette county community who suffers from a severe mental illness, whether they are currently a client of Labette Center or not.

According to the Mental Health First Aid webiste, this program is intended for a variety of audiences: friends and family of individuals with mental illness or addiction, key professionals (such as police officers, human resource directors and primary care workers), school and college leadership, faith communities, or anyone interested in learning more about mental illness and addiction. The training venues will also vary as Mental Health First Aid program sites reach out to Chambers of Commerce, professional associations, hospitals, nursing homes, Rotary Clubs, parent organizations, social clubs and other groups who make up the fabric of a community. The core program is tailored for response to the general adult population. Also, please check into our Youth Mental Health First Aid Course!!!! Community Support Services build meaningful and productive lives by using a multitude of resources. Included in the resources available are strength based case management services for adults, case planning and resource referral, peer support services, psychosocial groups, attendant care. Individuals receiving community support services also receive coordination with therapist, psychiatrist and other community agencies as well as Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment for those individuals who have co-occurring substance use disorders.
