Native HD and SD are standard

Only MediaStream comes standard with native HD and native SD support, as well as built-in up- and down-
conversion capabilities. No need for separate SD or HD systems or even separate SD and HD playlists. When
SD broadcasters move to HD delivery, MediaStream provides a complete platform for transition without the
need to purchase expensive new hardware systems.
Engineered for reliability
The Avid MediaStream server platform has been designed and developed to support no-single-point-of-failure
configurations. In the networked storage configuration, no individual building blockincluding components
and softwareis capable of interrupting video output. In fact, every critical component can be repaired without
taking the system off-line:
Redundant, fail-safe architecture: designed for the highest possible availability
Independent, mirrored file system CPUs
Real-time fault detection and fail-over
Dual-path RAID 3 storage arrays
Dual redundant Fibre Channel connections, switches, and host adapters in SAN configuration for video
Dual redundant Ethernet connections, switches, and NICs for system administration and metadata
Hot-swap, direct access dual power supply/fans,
and dual power cords
Scaleable, flexible, open
Avid MediaStream servers can be configured from
just a few channels using a standalone server to up
to 100 simultaneous channels using storage area
network (SAN) technology. Up to 16 channels of
broadcast video I/O per chassis lets broadcasters
add channels as their needs grow, without having
to buy a new chassis. Independent storage can be
quickly upgraded to full networked shared storage
as needed by adding additional components.
And support for interoperability with third-party
broadcast solutions ensure seamless interoperation with
any station, network, cable, and satellite
play-to-air facility.
Service and support
When trouble strikes, broadcasters need to get back on
the air quickly. Avid offers a comprehensive and cost-effective 24/7 support strategy with easy-to-use
diagnostics, remote diagnostic capabilities, and quick access to replacement parts.

Independent storage For small channel
count needs, Avid MediaStream systems
can be configured with dedicated
storage arrays with RAID protection.
Systems with independent storage can
also be upgraded to full networked
shared storage configurations.
Media Gateway A software application
suite that runs on the ConnectPlus
portion of Avid MediaStream provides
a seamless connection to Avid Liquid

editing workstations. Future software

versions will support the transfer of
material from Avid NewsCutter

and
Media Composer

editors and allow the

addition of up to 32 audio channels
per video clip.
Broadcast video I/O cards Adding one
video input at a time can be complicated
and expensive. Avid MediaStream
groups video I/O into cost-effective,
reliable chassis that allow up to 16
channels of video I/O each. In addition,
each MediaStream combo decoder card
provides selectable SD decode, HD
decode, or ASI I/O for the price of
competitive SD-only decoder cards.

Avid MediaStream v.3.1
The Avid

MediaStream

8000 SD/HD play-to-air server features one of the

most advanced server architectures availablewith more than 10 times the power
of previous MediaStream systems. It scales easily from small channel-count
applications to mission-critical SAN server configurations with over 100 channels.
The design of the Avid MediaStream 8000 and its Palladium digital video storage
system has been optimized to deliver unparalleled real-time performance
and reliability.
