So - thought today, why don!t we talk about how to simpli y all o the stu that is coming out, all o the stu that is being sent your way, do how you cut through all that rubbish and really /ust concentrate on what you need to do to get your business up and running. Heather Porter: 4kay then( Here is the thing, it never ceases to ama.e me where speak to people and - always ask what social media accounts do you use& And actually Twitter is not used as much as - always think it!s going to be used, so speaking over the weekend last weekend, to a group o small business owners and had them all go around the table and tell me which social media accounts they use and - think out o 5* only 6 used Twitter. So it got me thinking, okay, what else is out there to help business owners to use Twitter better& And -!ve stumbled upon a tool called Social%ro dot com and basically it!s whole tagline is it makes Twitter or business and the one thing, again it!s kind o newer to me too so -!m looking into it and learning it, but the one thing - am already loving about it is that it allows you to target in luencers on Twitter; which are essentially people with big ollowings that have a lot o action going on and it allows you to not only target them, ind out who they are, but also start communicating with them by doing re,tweets or responses on Twitter including their Twitter handle in your tweets, and it will keep track o those conversations easily so you really /ust don!t have to waste time, you are only communicating with people with big ollowings that are legitimate, top people and also you are tracking conversations so you are not orgetting who you talked to in the past. And by the way, there!s some other really cool things that does as well, but i you!ve ever doubted why you should be using Twitter in your business, /ust even go to the website Social%ro 70b,r,o18 dot com and watch the promo video, it will get you very e"cited about the potential. Andrew McCauley: )hat does that cost& -s there a price or that service& Heather Porter: That!s a very good 9uestion. -!ve only signed up or the ree account - have not even gotten that ar yet. Andrew McCauley: So there!s a ree account, so people can go and check it out. Heather Porter: $es a ree trial. Absolutely, go and check it out or ree and you!ll be 9uite intrigued and 9uite inspired about the potential o Twitter in your business. -t!s pretty cool. :ow Andrew, dare - ask what you!ve learned this week& Andrew McCauley: -!ve learned, -!ll tell you what - learned. Something that hasn!t been around that long but - sort o started digging into it a little bit more. And that!s using ;acebook voice messages or your business. Heather Porter: How long has this been around& Andrew McCauley: )ell, you know, - can!t remember. -!ve only sort o come onto it the last couple o weeks so - don!t know i it!s been around much more than that. There was some an are about it a while ago about it coming to ;acebook and then it hadn!t and then it did and didn!t. Anyway only in the last couple o weeks -!ve been having a look around at it and what is, it!s pretty cool, you can only use it rom your phone, your mobile app or your messenger app, so i you are on a desktop you can!t use it. %ut what it does is and you can only use it i you are using your personal pro ile, so not your business page, but your personal pro ile. :ow some people do Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/1-get-ready-to-put-your-business-on-

connect with their customers through their personal pro ile and i that!s you then you can use it or this purpose. $ou use it or normal purposes as well but basically what it is, it lets you leave a <+,second audio message that you record rom your Android or your i#hone, and it lets you send a message to anyone you like. So you basically open up a new message when you are on your mobile phone and there!s a little record voice option there so you have to click on that and you record your voice. :ow a couple o things that!s pretty cool that lets you do this and what you would use it or, one o them is, let!s say you have new ollowers coming along and i you!ve got a *+++ limit, you only are only allowed to have *+++ riends, but i somebody ollows you, you can actually leave a voice message or them and say, 0Hey thanks or ollowing me, it!s really good to connect with you, so on and so on1 and that way you are sort o building a relationship personally with people that are not e"pecting that to come rom you. So how cool it would be to get a voice message rom someone that says, 0Hey - know we can!t be riends because - am ull, but thanks or ollowing me anyway1. Heather Porter: Does this pop up inside o your ;acebook app, or is it kind o a=. Andrew McCauley: -t!d be like a message, - believe it comes through on the message, it!s a message, a little play button comes up on the message, so it looks like a normal message but a play button will come up and you /ust hit #lay and you can hear it. Heather Porter: Does it cost anything& Andrew McCauley: :o, no, it doesn!t cost anything. Heather Porter: That!s cool( That is cool, because or ollowers i you to turn that on, you can, like you!re saying, welcome them but also say, 0Hey you should come over and hang out with me on my business page.1 That!s actually cool. Andrew McCauley: There!s other things, you can even have, let!s say you!ve got lots o 9uestions about your service or your product and you eel like you are answering the same 9uestions over and over again, you can actually record a message and i it!s the same answer you can actually record that, keep it, and then play it and send it out a number o times. So you!ve got a ile o this little message. Heather Porter: >ery interesting( Andrew McCauley: $es( So there!s a couple o other ways that you can play around with it, but also, it!s pretty cool, it!s a little voice message, - might even send you a message on ;acebook and see i you get it and you can tell me what you think about it. Heather Porter: $ou should; -!m going to go and test it out too, it sounds kind o interesting.

Andrew McCauley: -!ve been playing a lot with some voice stu , - use another one called >o"er, - don!t know i you!ve ever heard o >o"er. -t is like a walky, talky, know a ew o my riend use it all the time and you don!t have to talk to anybody but you can leave the message and they answer back with their little >o"er, and it!s a good way to have a conversation without being stuck on the phone i you like. Heather Porter: That!s cool. 4kay. 3ast one( Andrew McCauley: $es, so in this world o short communications, >ine videos that are <,seconds long, who knows, this may be the way o the uture. Heather Porter: $es it!s like the people are getting scared o calling and so they are doing te"t messaging; so this allows you to still do kind o do te"t messaging but with your voice. Andrew McCauley: - don!t know in a ew years! time it will like, 0Hey that thing is ringing what does that mean& )hat do you do with that&1 Heather Porter: Sad but true( Andrew McCauley: Anyway. 3et!s talk about simpli ication. Heather Porter: 3et!s do it, let!s do it( And - love this topic because there is so much out there and that!s our /ob to learn that stu and then we can /ust share what you need to know. Andrew McCauley: $es we will be ilters, the rubbish ilters or you; we!ll sort it out so you don!t have to go and waste your time learning, that!s what we do. Heather Porter: ?"actly( So the very irst thing that all o you should be starting with to really use online marketing the right way is having a website that you are in control o . This simply means that you know how to update it yoursel , you are not scared o it, you can log into it, and you can put blog posts up. And you!ve heard us, i you!ve been listening to us or any amount o time, we always talk about )ord#ress because i you can type in )ord, chances are, you can type in )ord#ress with a blog post. So what are some e"amples, Andrew, o when we say have control o your website, what are some o things you!ve discovered rom other people or our clients when they are not in control& )hat sort o things start to happen or them& Andrew McCauley: )ell - guess in ormation, current in ormation irstly, where they either don!t know how to use their own website or they rely on some web developer /ust to change simple things like address or phone numbers, or operating hours o their business. And there!s nothing worse than going to a website that looks out,o , date, has the wrong times, the wrong dates, or even worse in this day and age, has a blog post that is a year or 6 old and that was their latest blog post. Heather Porter: $es e"actly, and -!ve been inding people that say, 04h - want to change my template or - /ust want to move this there, or do this but every time have to do that - have to call, like you said, my web developer and it costs a 5++ or 6++ dollars every little minor change1 so then there ore they eel trapped and then Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/1-get-ready-to-put-your-business-on-

they don!t do changes and they have an out o date website. So the number 5 thing, i that!s you and you are sitting there thinking, 0$es, - am not in control o my website, it really rustrates me, - have to pay or every change1, we recommend very irst and oremost that you change your site over to )ord#ress and the reason why we say that is because again it will be easy or you to update and i you are not on )ord#ress you can get somebody to actually copy the look and eel o your current website into a )ord#ress theme and you can 9uite easily do this by well 'oogling )ord#ress web developers or programmers or )ord#ress web designers but you can also go to one o the outsourcing sites like e3ance dot com or oDesk. 3ook, Andrew and - what we ound is, i you are going to e3ance irst try and check in America, like look in the US or the U@ or Australia or developers, and we are only saying that because it what is happening with )ord#ress and responsive design is that you really want somebody who is on top o it and that you can communicate to easily because i you are new to this, to have that cultural barrier rom another country might be a problem or you. Andrew McCauley: $es, we!ve been in that situation or a lot o the last 2 years and /ust saying that there are some great people rom all over the world, and in act, we have some great workers all over the world, we /ust ind that when we want something on our time .one, on our hours, and someone we can communicate 9uickly, we tend to go down that path. :ow what about i they are already on )ord#ress but they don!t have that access to do that themselves, what do you suggest& Heather Porter: Then what you need to do is to get that access, so what you are looking or is a )# Admin 3ogin which are the backend o your )ord#ress website, whoever is hosting your website whether that is 'oDaddy or some small company or whomever, get your )# Admin 3ogins and then go over to $ouTube and /ust type in, 0How to login into )ord#ress&, how to update )ord#ress&1 and start to /ust be a little bit amiliar around it, it!s really not that hard when you login and you go to posts, you can actually /ust add new post which is the blog posts or the updates or the articles on your website. So make sure you get control o it, make sure you know how to login to it, and make sure that you have ownership o it as well. Andrew McCauley: $es, actually $ouTube is a good source. Aheck out videos to how to update your )ord#ress blog; it!s, as Heather says, very straight orward when you know which tabs to look at, it!s very straight orward and - would recommend doing that. :ow, i they are going to go and start adding their own blog post and that sort o thing, how o ten would you suggest that they do that& Heather Porter: $es, that is really the ne"t step o this. 4nce you have control o your website and you know how to do a blog post in there, then you want to be doing blog posts at least once a week i you can. And the reason why is that it!s /ust going to give good resh content to your website, it!s going to attract 'oogle, it!s going to attract visitors to your website as well, and once you have an up,to,date website you are now positioning yoursel as a business that knows what is going on because you are on top o things. So /ust do those blog posts once a week. So that!s honestly the simplicity o the very irst step is make sure that you have ownership o your website, Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/1-get-ready-to-put-your-business-on-

make sure that you are not overwhelmed by it, and that you can log into it and update it yoursel . And then be updating it once a week. Andrew McCauley: $es, awesome, okay. So get your website in control, number 5. )hat is the ne"t step& Heather Porter: The ne"t step is, now you have your website in control, you actually want to be able to build an email list or build a ollowing on your website rom people that come to your website. So now you want to ocus on building your unnel which is essentially people that opt,in on your website and the communications that ollow as a result o them opting,in on your website. So, there!s a ew things really that you only need to know about that. And the irst thing is, you!ve got to come up with something ree, something that is ama.ing, something that you can give away that entices somebody to opt,in or share their contact details with you in e"change or that item. So let!s see, let!s talk about some reebie concepts and how easy that can actually be or somebody. Andrew McCauley: $es, absolutely. )ell you know what, one o the easiest things ind is, top 5+s, or top B bullet point like a blue print, the top B ways to do this, or the top 5+ mistakes that most people make when they are doing so orth. And people like that, they like something that is short, they like something that is 9uickly consumable, they don!t want to read 'one with the )ind, they don!t want an e,book that is *+++ pages long or something like that. They want something that!s 04kay, -!ve got it( -!ve got the in ormation, that!s great1. 3et!s have a look at your computer right now, how many e,books do you have on your computer that you!ve never read be ore& $ou!ve probably got a couple o there that you think, 0)ell - opted,in or something1, you!ve given that person your details and you haven!t even read the content that they sent you. So, think about e,books and - personally - sort o stick away rom e,books, unless it is a short report or something really, really 9uick, a 9uick read. Heather Porter: $es - want something short as well and that!s great news or you guys because i you!re reaked out by video at this point or think - don!t have enough time to write a lot o things, you can literally /ust put like your top 5+ resources that you have used in your business or your industry, /ust put those on a 5,page #D;, top 5+ resources, top 5+ mistakes, whatever it is, it can be honestly be 5,pager and you don!t have to write a lot you can /ust list the resource or tools and the UC3s to them, and i you are doing a good /ob compiling that in ormation then people probably will be 9uite interested in that. Andrew McCauley: 4r go to the most re9uently asked 9uestion o your business, what is the 9uestion that people ask and give them that answer, opt,in and you get the answer to the most asked 9uestion in my business, and it could be a 5 paragraph answer. Heather Porter: So really, once you have that, the ne"t step is then how do you actually give that to people& So you need 6 things, you need the opt,in orm on your website which is /ust a orm where people enter their details, now i you don!t have an email system yet, you can go to DailAhimp dot com or there is Aonstant Aontact, Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/1-get-ready-to-put-your-business-on-

there is A)ebber, there!s loads o them, but we like DailAhimp as a starting point and these tools allow you to actually build a little orm that you can put on your website and you can actually i you have )ord#ress you have control o your website you can literally copy and paste it into your website, the code, and there!s tutorials in DailAhimp that teach you how to do that. So that!s the irst thing, you need your opt,in orm, but also we recommend that you have what!s called a s9uee.e page or a landing page and the reason why you have one o those is essentially a bigger opt,in orm with more in ormation on it, but you have that so you can then use your social media, use a special UC3 in your social media to send people to, rather than the home page o your website which could very well con use them. So i you tweeting 0'o check out my ree report1 or e"ample, you want to send them to this page rather than your homepage o you website. And there is a tool that we love and we use, and it!s called 3ead#ages dot net, 3ead#ages. So what does 3ead#ages do& Andrew McCauley: 3ead#ages is an almost like a plug, and, play system that you can create awesome looking landing pages that convert really well. So by converting what - mean is that when people come to that page they like it so much, it looks good, it looks appealing, that they say 0-!m happy to give my email address or this product or service that you are o ering1 whether it!s a report, or a blueprint, or an audio, or video 3ead#ages is one o those= it also lets you actually even install your digital media so i you are giving away a report and let!s say the report is a 5,page #D;, the report, it will even deliver that or you so you don!t even need to house that anywhere you can actually store it on the 3ead#ages site and as soon as people opt, in it would deliver that asset or you, it!s pretty cool. Heather Porter: >ery cool and all these resources we are talking to about have great tutorial videos in them and good help desks and everything. So they are built or a small business owner or a business owner that is overwhelmed by this stu naturally, so they are easy to use. Andrew McCauley: Do you want to see a lead page in action& Ayb guide dot com, ayb podcast dot com. 'o and check those 6 out and you!ll see a lead page in action. Heather Porter: That!s right and again that!s what we use because it is so simple to use and there is loads o other bene its with these but all you need to know is, once you are in control o your website then you want to ocus on your lead unnel, on your reebie and making sure people can opt,in to that. And once you have that o course, the ne"t step is you need to then ollow up with these guys that have opted,in because i they /ust sign up and you never talk to them again they are not going to remember who you are. So, the ne"t step is coming up with your emails known as auto responders that you are going to send up automatically or - should say send out automatically a ter they opt,in. So what let!s see, what would some auto responders actually do& )ell the very irst one o course is saying, 0Hey thanks or signing up, here is the link where you go and get your ree thing1, the person will be redirected there maybe as part o your opt,in orm process but you also want to send them a link so they can re er back in their email and ind that good ree resource that you!ve given them. %ut, what else& 3et!s Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/1-get-ready-to-put-your-business-on-

talk through some concepts or ideas o what one might actually put in their auto responders. Andrew McCauley: Sure, you might want to talk about what else you do, now i they!ve gone on to your website and they!ve signed up or your ree report on the top * 9uestions that your customers ask, what other services or products that these people may not necessarily know that you do& So, you want to add value through these emails so it could be, 0we also o er this service which will help you do this, this, and this1 and give them a bene it. So you are letting people know about what other services you o er. %ut then what you also want to do is mi" in a lot o value, added sort o in ormation. So, the in ormation would be give them some tips and tricks and tools that they can possibly use in relation to the report that they /ust downloaded. Heather Porter: $es, e"actly, loads o value, great( %e yoursel in these emails, write like you are writing to a riend, conversational, you don!t have to go out there and go 0yeah - need to buy a copy writing course now, or - need to buy how to write a headliner or a sub/ect to my email course1 $ou don!t need to do that yet, that!s /ust using your own voice and talking to people and getting these emails out there is the best way to cut that overwhelm and simpli y things. Andrew McCauley: words each& So, Heather, each email should be about what 5+++ to 6+++

Heather Porter: 4h yeah, more actually. :o( A ew sentences will do /ust ine( ?ven *,5+ sentences. Andrew McCauley: 3ess is more. So don!t get reaked out about trying to write an episode o some book, it!s /ust a 9uick E, *, 5+ sentences that captures the essence and then it gets people to do something, whether is look at your website, move to your website, but /ust give them some value. Heather Porter: $eah, send them to your ;acebook page, send them to your most popular blog post, send them to another cheat sheet, another something,or,other that you put together and the cool thing about DailAhimp or any o these email programs is that you basically set them up, put them into the system and then you say, 0- want this email to go out at day 5, this one to go out 6 days later, this one E days later1, and rule o thumb, as soon as somebody comes into your email list is, sort o every couple o days initially or the irst couple o weeks, /ust to warm them up and show them what you got and then hope ully convert them into being maybe a client or doing the ne"t step with you. Andrew McCauley: Awesome( Heather Porter: So that!s, that one, they!re pretty easy, we!ve now covered the website, we talked about the unnel, now what ne"t& So now you have your basis, your oundation laid out, ready to go, and hope ully you are writing on your website once a week and you have this little unnel kicking on behind the scenes, now you need to ocus on tra ic. So we are going to talk about brie ly about that. Andrew McCauley: )ell, there is a couple o ways to do it , - guess the irst one is, you can have organic tra ic which is tra ic that comes along who /ust happens to ind you, they are searching the web they are sur ing around and they come across content that you!ve written, they come across articles that you!ve posted, they come across videos that you may have put out on $ouTube, they!ve come across stu that you put on your website naturally and they call that organic tra ic. :ow content is one o the biggest bu..words o 6+52 and - think it is only going to get bigger in 6+5E. Tells us a little bit about why that!s going to be the case, H& Heather Porter: )ell one o the main things /ust with search engines is that they are looking or a conversational approach with what you are doing in your online marketing, so people are revisiting your website, they are commenting on your website, they are using their social media accounts to share your content across their to their ollowers And the only way to do this is to give them resh in ormation. - mean people are not going to go share your contact page, or your about page or your services page, so to have individual bits o content that are ongoing, over time, it allows people to have that conversation with you, and spread your web so to speak out on the web, so you are allowing through all these di erent topics that you are going to be talking about, having di erent people with di erent interests ind you. And look, content, what!s cool about is that you might be hearing, 0$eah - need to do and online T> show, - need to do podcasts /ust like what we are doing - need to do books and this and that1, not necessarily unless you love doing lots o content, but /ust stick with something and get good at it. So whether that is video, whether that is a podcast or maybe that!s /ust getting really, really good on one o your social media accounts and constantly putting up content there. - guess the key thing to keep in mind here is that i content is overwhelming to you right now, it!s probably because you are thinking that you have to do everything. Andrew McCauley: $es, yes. Aontent can take a little bit more time to get traction too. So one o the things that we!ve learned is to be consistent with content, so even though you may have done a blog post or a couple o weeks every week and you haven!t got much results, keep sticking into it because consistency starts to pay o . Heather Porter: $es it absolutely does. And your blog post that you do every week by the way, you can embed your videos and that, - mean think about how you can cut and cross pollinate what you are doing across your social media and your website, but /ust key here is to come up with some sort o medium that you are happy to use and /ust keep, keep at it, keep doing it, use re9uently asked 9uestions and answer those 9uestions as a great starting point because you already know that people want to know that in ormation. Andrew McCauley: )ell that was organic ree tra ic, basically, what about paid tra ic& )hat sort o options are there or paid tra ic& And, why would you use paid tra ic& Heather Porter: So paid tra ic /ust boost everything that you do 9uicker because o course when you do ads, it puts you immediately in ront o an audience or a Listen to the podcast here: http://autopilotyourbusiness.com/podcasts/1-get-ready-to-put-your-business-on-

potential audience whereas with content and blog posts you are waiting or search engines to ind it and deliver it and put it out there. So ads like, there are lots di erent types o ads, so there!s ads that you put onto 'oogle Ad)ords, there is banner ads that you can put across all the di erent ad networks, you have seen those o s9uared images or rectangle images that sit on di erent people!s websites, you!ve seen then on $ouTube, you!ve seen them on The )all Street Fournal, even /ust individual bloggers that are 9uite well known, those are banner ads that you can get and put out there, you!ve got ;acebook ads, Twitter ads. - think the thing to think about with ads because - know this can really overwhelm people, - always say in my opinion - think the easiest place to start is ;acebook, what do you think& Andrew McCauley: $es - think ;acebook, because it is so targeted, most people are happy with the plat orm that is on, they know how ;acebook generally works, they know where the ads pop up, - think that!s probably the sa est one to go with. Heather Porter: )here would you say would be a good place or somebody to learn about the di erent types o ;acebook ads and how they can go about doing that, do you think ;acebook Help Desk or Support& Andrew McCauley: $es, they have a 'o to ;acebook help and type in ;acebook ads, they!ve got a whole bunch o in ormation that is updated all the time, - was looking at their ;acebook ad image si.es this morning or yesterday, and they!ve updated it * hours be ore - looked at it. So they are always updating in ormation on their site, so it!s a great place to start. Then you can do some $ouTube searches too i you want to have and look at some methods on how to use those. Heather Porter: So there you go, i you are looking back across everything we!ve talked about, all this in ormation, anybody can do because we are talking about resources that have help desks and tutorials or you. So i you start the website, make sure you get that under control, you can 'oogle or go to $ouTube and ask 9uestions in there around how to do certain things on )ord#ress and get help moving to )ord#ress i that is something you want to do, and then /ust get started writing your blog posts, go rom there and get your unnel going, as we were saying get that reebie up, and again DailAhimp has great tutorials as well, and when in doubt about any o this go to $ouTube and /ust type it in, type in your 9uestion and you!ll ind it. Then it!s time to turn on that tra ic, so all you need to do is ocus on some content that you are going to do outside o your site whether that is going to be a $ouTube video, whether that is going to be a social media post on ;acebook or Twitter what sort o things you can do outside o your site to start to e"pand your reach to other places and then go dive in to ;acebook ads, go to ;acebook support, go into their ad center and start to learn a ew things about it, they have great tutorials in there, it!s not as scary as you think once you are in there i you!ve never done it be ore /ust start learning a little bit about it.

Andrew McCauley: The good thing about ;acebook ads is that you can set yoursel a budget, 5+ dollars a day, and know that you get to spend that much money; you don!t want surprise bills at the end o your billing period where you are spending thousands o dollars. So the good thing about ;acebook is that you can really control how much you are spending. Heather Porter: And once you get all this stu going, then and only then, can you then say, 04kay, now - am going to learn about copy writing, or now - am going to learn about split testing or some o the more advanced things1. - you don!t have this, your oundation in the irst place then all this other stu is /ust going to overwhelm you and con use you and you don!t even have the right system to even build a list or even communicate with them in the irst place. So why would you actually want to learn about all that stu i its helping to improve something that is on a rocky oundation& Andrew McCauley: Splendid( - think you!ve covered it. 'et a website under control, build your unnel, turn on tra ic, there you go, that!s all, it sounds like very easy stu to do. Thank you. Heather Porter: There you go G -t will take somebody a month or 6 maybe to /ust ocus on this, i you are going to say each week - am going to ocus on 5 o these items, and then - get home rom work or whatever it is and - go to the help center, go watch the tutorials on DailAhimp, /ust break it or chunk it apart like that and then you!ll ight that overwhelm. Andrew McCauley: $es, you will. Alright, good summary H, good summary. Heather Porter: 4ne thing too, Andrew, - want to share, which is really cool, is that we had in :ovember, we had our biggest month ever as ar as listeners go. :ot only listeners and the number o listeners but countries, we are now in <H countries. Andrew McCauley: - want to put out a challenge. - shared with everyone the other week a tool called AommentAast where - can see which countries, with little lags o people that commented on.
