The spread of globalisation was leading to privatisation which leads to the creation of giant media and news agencies.

Western News Agencies like Reuters, AP, UPI, and AFP are primarily responsible for world image. These four news agencies remain as key players for distribution of news and information, where many newspaper and other media organizations around the world depending on them for global news, mostly for the Third World countries. There are some factors the reason why these Angelo-American news agencies become domination of global news such as English language was determined as lingua franca, first mover advantage in the global news, those countries practicing free press, strong financial, crossemployment in media firms, mixing information and entertainment together or infotainment and others. In addition, the Western News Agencies are assigned to spread global agenda and creating perception as South is the place of corruption, coup, and disasters. The news is stereotypical and known as disaster news. Some claimed the Western News Agencies did not cover enough the developing countries, the material covered is insufficient and tendency to highlight a biased image. The global imbalance flow of news content from Western media to less developed countries has led to several consequences. The results are distress, disagreements, controversy globally about impact of global imbalance flow of news. The Third World countries have called for a New World Information and Communication Order (NWICO) during the 1970s because of dissatisfaction and the debates was so intense over the role of information and communication in developing countries. The Third World countries charged Western News agencies with cultural imperialism, emphasized their weakness, instability and corruption and suggested that the economic imbalances is not from European colonialism and neo-colonial forces, but from their own inability to sustain development. Moreover, the basic demands of NWICO were Democratization; balanced news flow, Decolonization; no misinterpretation to reflect a lack of respect for the cultural identities, Demonopolization; the monopoly status of transnational corporation in terms of communication technology as a threat to national sovereignty and Development; developing countries join together for news distributions. However, the United States saw the demands for a NWICO as a direct threat to the American principal of a free press and to access for US media organizations to developing countries. In conclusion, according to Thussu, with the rapid developments in communication technologies and the resulting expansion of Western satellite and cable television in the developing world, key issues in 1970s debates about NWICO may again be relevant. Malaysia has come up with solution by established South-South Information Gateway (SSIG) to allow the South nations to share information, news, broadcast materials as a way to promote peace, unity, solidarity, and shared prosperity.
