Language Somali native speak Somali Somali language belongs to Cushitic languages which are taken from Afro-Asiatic. Cushitic is an
extension of the Oromo. The Afro-Asiatic is the largest family of languages in Northern Africa according to About World Languages. Religion Islamic Diet Parents in Somalia believe being thick is healthy, even if the size is obese by American standards. Their diet consist of high calorie and high fat foods. Meat: beef and lamb. Pan cooked breads. Corn based dishes. Curry is infused with many dishes. Pinto beans and vegetables are common in many dishes. Camel milk is thought to be the best milk.

Economy

Somalia is one of the poorest countries in the world. Over half of Somali natives are self-employed. They work as farmers, herders, or independent business owners according to everyculture.com.

Social class, gender roles, and family unit Everyculture.com states Somalia social system is composed of a caste system. The social position is based on heritage and occupation. Men are responsible for tending to the animals and being seen as protectors or warriors. The women are expected to keep the family healthy and planting and harvesting crops. Family households consist of a husband, wife and children, and when aging relatives need housing they stay with the younger family members. Families can have one husband and multiple wives; when multiple wives are involved they live alone with their children and the husband divides his time. Men are the head of house unless they are divorced the woman can lead her children.

Reason for leaving There has been a civil war waging in Somalia for close to 20 years, which has sent many people leave their home. Famine and disease also drives the inhabitants of Somalia to more hospitable environments. Somali community Association of Ohio says since 1995 Somali refugees have been arriving in Columbus Ohio. Columbus has the second largest population of Somali refugees in Ohio, and its expected that 200 immigrants a month will arrive.
