Outstanding participants will be offered opportunities to perform in a concert or concerto concert. Bachs Well-Tempered Clavier (I, II) or one Etude by Chopin, Debussy, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Scriabin or Prokofiev, followed by another piece chosen by the contestant (including movements from a sonata or suite). Notes: Contestants are required to bring their instrument including Harp. (In the finals, any contestant wishing to rent a harp should contact the organizer.) Guitar contestants are required to bring a footrest. Cello and double bass contestants are required to bring an endpin rest.

Voice Category Age-J Regional Round: One song chosen by the contestant. The length of performance: 4 minutes. Final Round: One song chosen by the contestant. It must be different from the song for the regional round. The length of performance: 4 minutes. Age-H Same requirements as Age-J Age-U Regional Round: One song chosen by the contestant. The length of performance: 5 minutes. Final Round: Choose 1 or 2: 1. Opera Course: One aria chosen by the contestant. It must be different from the song for the regional round. Age-G Same requirements as Age-U Notes: The Age-UG contestants are required to choose the opera or lied course in the finals. The title of the opera should be clearly noted on the application form when an aria is chosen.

Requirements: Age No age requirement.

Eligibility Early Music: Harpsichord and other period instruments. Solo and ensemble (fewer than 8 members) are acceptable. Two Pianos: Up to eight hands. Piano Four Hands (one piano ensemble): Up to six hands. Folk Instruments: Solo and ensemble (fewer than 8 members) are acceptable. Marimba and Mandolin are included in this category. Duo: No instrumental requirement. Ensemble: No instrumental requirement, but few than 8 members. The length of Concerto Audition: 10-20 minutes.

Notes: The 1st prize winner and those who are recommended by the jury will be entitled to perform a concerto with an orchestra at the concert which will be held in spring 2015. (Performers are required to fulfill the ticket quota obligation.) The same piece should be performed in the regional round, final round and concert. The contestant must prepare all movements by memory. Parts to be performed will be indicated on the day of competition by the jury. The contestant should bring his/her accompanist.

Repertoire for Recital Course Prepare for a 45-minute program (including time between pieces). A 15~20 minute section should be identified by the contestant, which will be judged in the regional round. The remaining part will be judged if the contestant reaches the final stages. The length of the final round will be 2530 minutes out of the 45-minute program. * Structure of the programme is also a subject of judging. The programme must be the same as the one for the joint concert. Travel, accommodation and other costs incurred participating in the concert must be paid by participants. The 1st prize winner and those who are recommended by the jury will be entitled to perform at a concert.

Section III

Youth Amateurs

Requirements for Youth Category: Infant Course A: Those who were born between April 1, 2002 and March 31, 2005. B: Those who were born between April 1, 2005 and March 31, 2008. C: Those who were born on or after April 1, 2008. All instruments except voice are acceptable. Repertoire: Infant Courses A & B One piece chosen by the contestant Infant Course C One piece or pieces chosen by the contestant The length of performance: 4 minutes

Junior Course

Those who were born between April 1, 1999 and March 31, 2002. All instruments are acceptable. Repertoire: One piece chosen by the contestant The length of performance: 5 minutes

Eligibility for Amateurs Category Students of music at high school, college, university, members of performing groups or music professionals are ineligible. Students outside of their majors are eligible. For only Piano Outstanding Amateurs-O Course, graduates of music school who do not derive their principal source of income through piano performance or instruction are eligible.

Repertoire for Piano Outstanding Amateur Course Regional Round: One piece or pieces chosen by the contestant. The length of performance: 15 minutes. Final Round: One piece or pieces chosen by the contestant. They must be different from the pieces for the regional round. The length of performance: 2030 minutes. Repertoire for Concerto Course: Regional Round: One movement of a concerto chosen by the contestant. For vocal music, one opera aria is required. The length of performance: 10-15 minutes. Final Round: The same movement of the concerto or the same opera aria performed in the regional round. The length of performance: 10-15 minutes. Notes: The 1st prize winner and those who are recommended by the jury will be entitled to perform a concerto with an orchestra at the concert which will be held in spring 2015. (Performers are required to fulfil the ticket quota obligation.) A different piece may be performed at the concert, provided that participants contact the secretariat one year before the concert, and approval of the committee is given. A DVD of the performance must be submitted. The contestant should bring his/her accompanist. If the selected concerto is different from the concerto repertoire for Concerto Audition in Section II (Pages 8-9), photocopied score must be submitted.

Grand Final Round (Gala Concert)

Eligibility Section I: The 1st placed winner of each category, whose Age Category is Age-H and over, and those recommended by the jury. Section II: The 1st placed winner except for Concerto Audition, and those recommended by the jury. Section III: Those recommended by the jury in Piano Outstanding Amateur Course and/or Virtuoso Course. Repertoire Piece(s) of approx. 10 min. chosen by the contestant. * Those who recommended by the jury in Age-E and J: piece(s) of approx. 5 min. chosen by the contestant. Note: The same piece for the finals is acceptable. The registration form for the Grand Final-Gala Concert will be handed out after the announcement of the finals result. If your performance exceeds 15 min, you will be out of the running for the Grand-final Prizes. (A shortened piece is acceptable)

Notes The piece chosen by the contestant may not be changed after the submission of the application form. The contestant will receive the schedule and other information about 10 days before the date of each scheduled regional round and final round. The piece for the final should be specified in the form which is given to the contestant upon the announcement of the successful candidates of the regional round. No repeats are allowed. The piece should be performed without music, except the following categories. Regional Round Section I: Winds Section II: All categories except Concerto Audition Section III: Excellence, Superior, Junior, Senior, Silver, Infant and Duo/Ensemble Course. Final Round Section II: All categories except Concerto Audition Section III: Duo/Ensemble Course Actual performing time may be shorter than the designated length of performance. When longer, the jury will stop the contestant. The performing time will not affect the result. Duration will be timed from the moment walking to the stage. Arranged or shortened pieces are not accepted. (Accompaniment may be cut.) Except for unaccompanied pieces, contestants should play with a piano accompanist. Contestants are required to bring his/her accompanist and perform with an accompaniment. If you need an accompanist, contact and send the score to the regional competition office. The cost is the contestants responsibility. Except for Piano and Harpsichord, contestants must bring their own instrument, music stand, pedal extender/platform, footrest, etc. The order of performances in the final round shall be decided based on an alphabetical order. Starting letter is decided by the Executive Committee. Position of Piano lid and position of the two pianos are controlled by the Executive Committee. Recording media, fees and other materials submitted are not returnable. Travel, accommodation and other costs must be paid by the contestants. The contestants must obtain the necessary visas to visit Japan. If an invitation letter or any documents are required for the visa application, the applicant must request them from the secretariat. Charge for the visa documents is 10,000 Yen. No enquiries about the judging procedures are permitted. The 1st to 3rd prize winners in the final round must attend the Award Ceremony. (A proxy is acceptable, except for those who appear in the Grand Final=Gala Concert.) The contestant and audience are not allowed to take photograph and make audio/video recording during the competition. All the performances and its right to broadcasting, recording, filming and photograph in the competition and concert which are related to the competition belong to the OSAKA International Music Promotion Society. The contestant cannot claim the rights for them.
