SSI AWARDED ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS ON NEW NELSON

MANDELA STADIUM IN PE

The Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality has awarded consulting engineering and project
management group, SSI — a DHV company a contract for certain electrical installations at the new 48 000-
seater Nelson Mandela Stadium in North End, Port Elizabeth — an official Fifa World Cup 2010 venue.

SSI in one of three consulting companies that will be responsible for electrical installations at the stadium
and its role will be to provide detail design and construction supervision relating to floodlighting for the main
arena, practice pitch lighting, external lighting and decorative lighting for the stadium and surrounding area.

SSI project principal, Andrew Theron, says the project is running on a very tight schedule and will be
completed in May 2009.

“We have provided road transportation and township services to this municipality for the past three decades,”
says Theron, “and we believe that it is this high profile and proven track record that influenced the granting of
the stadium electrical contract in our favour.”

The high-tech Nelson Mandela Stadium will meet every requirement necessary to provide a world class
venue for World Cup 2010 matches. The stadium is located 2 km from the Port Elizabeth coast, close to the
N2 highway and no more than 15 minutes' drive from the city's main hotel sector.

SSI is involved in a variety of other World Cup 2010 related projects, including the uMhlathuze Multi-purpose
Sports Stadium in Richards Bay and the Orlando Sports Stadium in Soweto, as well as road and rail planning
in KwaZulu Natal and Gauteng.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has also appointed SSI to conduct three World Cup 2010 related
transport projects in the region. The first calls for conceptual design of the infrastructure required for a Bus
Rapid Transit (BRT) system, including dedicated bus lanes with centrally located bus stations in the median
of the arterial roads in the city, as well as design of modal interchanges for passenger transfers between
trunk route buses and feeder minibuses and midibuses. (A midibus — or “mid-sized bus” — is a classification
of single decker buses identified as neither minibuses nor full size buses, and can be anywhere between 8m
and 11m long.)

SSI is also working on a public transport operational plan for the municipality that will serve World Cup 2010
as the first phase of implementation of a long term public transport strategy and will also cover the “legacy”
beyond 2010. This has involved intensive discussions and planning meetings with existing bus and minibus

taxi operators to design a new system, which will be operated by a mutually owned entity established by the
current operators, under contract to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Transport Authority.

The third transport project involves preparation of a Transport Operational Plan for World Cup 2010 — a
three-year appointment awarded to SSI in joint venture with Protech Khuthele and Izizwe Consulting
Engineers. SSI’s responsibility is transport demand estimation, spectator information systems, airport
transport linkage, spectator parking and access routes, traffic management, Fifa “family” and VIP transport
and parking, emergency services transport routes and parking, support services access and parking.
