Biology and Ecology
A. graecizans is an annual weed which exhibits predominantly prostrate growth. Vasconcelos et
al. (1984) showed that germination was somewhat higher in light than in darkness. In Greece,
Giannopolitis (1981) found that seeds had little dormancy even when freshly shed. Seeds
germinate mainly in the top 2-3 cm of the soil.
This species is mainly associated with fertile soils and irrigation but can occur over a wide range
of conditions.
Distribution
A. graecizans occurs widely in Europe, Africa and western Asia but is more sporadically distributed
elsewhere.
