Proposal Argument
Global Warming has become one of the most pressing issues for humanity. Technology
and the planet have been abused for the purpose of meeting the industrial need to mass produce.
The climate crisis has escalated since its discovery, and will continue to do so if no actions are
taken to eliminate the harmful habits of human activity everywhere. Greenhouse gases act like a
blanket around Earth, trapping energy in the atmosphere and causing it to warm. This
phenomenon is called the greenhouse effect and is natural and necessary to support life on Earth.
However, the buildup of greenhouse gases can change Earth's climate and result in dangerous
effects to human health and welfare and to ecosystems (Climate change: Basic Information).
Citizens should change all possible aspects of their lives to decrease the impact they have on the
environment in order to ensure the planet will be able to sustain our current and future
population. If we do not begin to change there will be most likely be wars over water and oil due
to the severe dependency societies have developed. Good Job
Some citizens still continue to live their lives without considering the consequences their
actions have and the toll they will take on others now, as well as the future generations.
Information about Global Warming has been promoted at a global level and most citizens are
now aware of the crisis. Although, 37% people believe that Global warming was either over
exaggerated acerbated or they have no opinion on the matter (Evans). One person alone most
likely does not produce enough emissions to destroy the environment, however when all of the
emissions from everyone are added up, they becomes dangerous, and catastrophic. This is why it
takes everyone to enable the aversion on our damage done. Global warming has already begun
taking a toll on the temperature, the ozone layer, the polar ice caps, glaciers everywhere, general
human health, wildlife, plant life. The destruction of forests for the purpose of industrialization
has also drastically affected the atmosphere, in addition to over fishing and conventional
agriculture methods. Interesting
People should use alternative methods some examples including: using energy efficient
appliances, reducing the use of water, using solar energy, and supporting organic and local
farmers. Using energy efficient appliances, and solar energy decreases, may eliminate the use of
energy harvested through gas of electricity. Over their lifetime, products in your home that have
earned the Energy Star label can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 130,000 pounds and
save you $11,000 on energy bills (What you can do: At home). Reducing water is also a good
idea because there is only a very small percentage left, and there is no way to get fresh water
from the ocean for everyone without paying a fortune. This is when recycling grey water,
otherwise known as the water that has drained from the shower or sink is collected and used
again for the purpose of flushing the toilet.
Since one of the main reasons global warming has become a problem is our excess use of
gas inefficient cars and general transportation. It would be a good idea to switch to a hybrid or
gas efficient car, which would save money due to the reduction on gas station visits. Other good
ideas for transportation alternatives include carpooling, taking public transportation, biking or
walking. The last two are not only beneficial for the persons health, but also saves money for
the person who has decided to switch to alternatives. Great way to analyze
Recycling, composting, growing ones food, using recycled paper or assigning utility
towels as napkins instead of new paper napkin or towels, filling and using the dishwasher instead
of hand washing, maintaining house insulation, avoiding turning on lights, switching to
florescent light bulbs, using reusable bags are all also potential suggestions for alternatives to a
more environmentally friendly life (Action tips: Ways you can stop global warming). Recycling
reduced the amount of things in the trash that will just be getting dumped on a landfill to collect.
This way the object is introduced back into the manufacturing world to be used again and
eliminate more plastic being produced. Using rags instead of paper products eliminates the need
to cut down trees in important areas like the rain forests which are needed for the millions of
species yet to be discovered. The dishwasher uses less water than if one were to hand wash
dishes, making the dishwasher a good way to save water and reduce ones water bill.
Some suggestions are much easier than others. Getting a hybrid is something that may
only be possible if finances are not an issue due to its high MPG (miles per gallon). Other
potential possibilities may also include investing in energy efficient appliances including those
appliances which have been certified efficient by a program called Energy Star (About Energy
Star), using solar energy due to solar panels being expensive, and the grey water recycling
system, because it may require changing pipes and the drainage way of the house. Although
these options can be considered to be big decisions, they were good ideas because as soon as
they are used, the car and appliances may begin to profit their owner with the amount of money
that could potentially be saved. If one can afford to do all of what has been listed, then that
person will begin making money as the appliances because they begin paying for them by
reducing bills. The actions which include decreasing the use of something like lights or water
will also do the same thing by reducing the bill.
The consumer needs to find any way to reduce the use and support of unclean energy, oil,
gasoline, the production of wrappers and trash and decrease the use of water. There are
companies which have the planets well-being in mind such as organic farmers, and it would also
be beneficial for these companies to be supported in order to bring down those who are only
harming the environment. Any company which practices sustainability is worth investing in. The
same may be applied to any company which functions organically. Buying Local is also a good
idea as this reduces gas emission being released for shipment of fruits from out of state.
Two important steps to averting global warming include planting vegetation, as well as
spreading the word on this issue and sharing ideas with those who are interested in giving green
a chance. Plants use carbon to build their own tissues and return some of it to the soil in a
process called sequestration. Deforestation of rain forests is a large contributor to global
warming and CO2 emissions, but planting new trees, even in your own backyard, can help to
offset this (Steffan). The process in which plants turn carbon dioxide into oxygen is called
photosynthesis. If enough trees and plants were to be increase, then the amount of carbon dioxide
in the air would be reduced and help ameliorate the global crisis issue.
Sharing this important information about the state of our planet is critical for the bettering
of the world. If everyone do not make sure everyone is aware, then people will continue to live
their live inefficiently, and may end up paying more for utilities than is necessary. As long as
there are still people making mistakes without thinking, mention what they are doing to planet
Earth. Humans were only given one planet, and unfortunately for us there are limited amount of
resources. These resources have to be cared for, and used wisely in order for us to be able to give
future generations a proper upbringing.
