The document contains the Brown Bag lunch series concept implemented by Coca
Cola. And also different strategies adopted by them for Knowledge Management.

The Brown Bag Lunches are a series of informal meetings where junior and senior
employees interested in organizational theories and phenomena meet over lunch
to discuss a current project or paper. Typically, a person presents his or her
project/ paper informally (without PPP!) and afterwards a lively discussion
ensues, providing with a great opportunity to receive feedback from likeminded
peers.
Brown bag training became a popular concept several years ago as a minimally
intrusive way to offer mandatory training. However, the concept has many other
applications that should motivate project managers to consider setting up a
regular brown bag lunch for his or her team.
Things to do during a brown bag lunch-:
Share technical expertise not related to regular project training. Because of
either prior experience or personal avocations, members of your
organization are experts in all kinds of practical and esoteric technology
solutions that are interesting to others.
Vendors are often willing to send technical professionals to present
information on their products, technology and industry issues.
Departments within your company can talk with your team about processes
and tasks over which they have knowledge and control such as: how the
accounting department processes travel reimbursements, what business
analysis is all about, the activities of the editing or publishing group, and
the legal department can share knowledge about protecting proprietary
information or filing a patent application.
Non-work related sharing that focuses on topics with broad appeal such as
photography, web design, living green, college financial help etc.

Knowledge Management
The most important goal of knowledge management is ensuring that data and
information is collected and stored in such a way that makes it effective and
efficient for members of the organization to find and use the necessary data.
Forms of Knowledge Management
When considering effective knowledge management, a variety of factors
and needs must be assessed to find the most beneficial form for the
knowledge.
Knowledge management can exist in many forms, including:
Process-driven applications
Automated data integration
Data capture and workflow solutions
Purpose-built databases
Content life cycle management
Automated document and classification solutions
Document, content and imagine solutions
Secure file sharing
Optical character recognition
Social analytics and engagement solutions
Integration of enterprise search
Business intelligence
Knowledge Management System Examples
Some examples of different knowledge management systems include:
Feedback database - A company may have a database of feedback from
customers and employees and shares this feedback with their design and
research and development departments. All members of the organization
would be able to enter feedback into the database and an integrated
approach would be taken to understanding the shared information.
Shared project files - An employee team can work collaboratively on a
project. They have a system of shared files and information that allows
everyone on the team to upload and comment on work performed by
others.
Research files - A company developing a new product conducts research on
their competitors and conducts focus groups to find out what is needed in
their product or market niche. This information is entered into a database
that contains objective data on market sales potential and indicates what
assets and processes the company has in place which can be used to meet
this sales potential, meet customer needs and fill gaps within the
marketplace.

Knowledge Management will greatly contribute to improved excellence, which
leads to:
a) Dramatically reduce costs
b) Provide potential to expand and grow
c) Increase our value and/or profitability
d) Improve our products and services
e) Respond faster
Effective knowledge management, especially accelerated knowledge
creation, is the driver for innovation. Increasingly, products and services are
becoming smarter and more knowledge based. Our ability to better
collaborate in physical and virtual teams, as knowledge workers, is driving
the process of new knowledge creation.

Knowledge Management in Coca Cola.

It is understood that every framework developed by the company began as a
thought in the minds of the employees. It then formed into a patterned analysis
of data which resulted to the production of ideas. Thus, the Coca Cola Company
had flourished into a multinational corporation because of the tacit knowledge of
the employees.
The knowledge management of Coca Cola has a deep relationship with
collaboration. It shares the nature of not just a system but a huge network where
the people within the company can communicate with the company network
based in a different country. This nature will help assess knowledge managers on
how much information must the company need to further their endeavors of
perfection and customer satisfaction.
In executing their strategy, knowledge management is very useful because it
serves as a pattern or guide where certain areas are marked as they deemed fit,
or areas are being highlighted which they saw that needs for further
improvement. It also serves as a strong pivotal point where company seeks
assessment or gathers information to further expand the Coca Cola System.
Some analysts states that instead of spending more time on technology, it is more
essential to study more on knowledge content by learning on culture and
organization of the company. However, according to expert knowledge managers,
knowledge management is dependent on the advancement of information
technology such as intranets, video conferencing, web casting and more.

Tacit knowledge among employees has helped the company create innovations in
their products. All it takes is to exhaust ideas and knowledge within the
workplace. However, in order that this knowledge may be properly organized and
put into concepts, a good inter-personal relationship is essential that the tacit
knowledge may be well put into conception. . The strategy applied by the
company is based from value chains and force models. These tools have helped
the company maximize and guide them in their efforts to resolved future business
reverses.

Conclusion

Through 1995, the company developed a multi-year initiative, Project MAX, that
pursues superior customer responsiveness, quality and efficiency altogether. The
company is focused on flexibility, reliability, quality and costs. Its task is to
increase the responsiveness of the customers' needs, while producing the highest
quality products at the lowest cost.

Through the advance Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) technologies which are
implemented into the company's information system, the employees can easily
access to the operational information, such as consumer information, sales, and
promotions. This enhances the employees' knowledge and increases their
responsiveness to the customers.
