Revolutionary Technology

L-3 Security and Detection Systems offers the Vivid MVT (Multi-View Tomography), a revolutionary highspeed automated explosives
detection system. Capable of meeting the most stringent detection standards, MVT provides the highest throughput available to the industry
with seamless integration and outstanding reliability. The high-speed conveyor, large tunnel size (big enough for even oversize baggage) and
completely film safe operation result in a superior inspection system capable of meeting the baggage inspection needs of even the busiest
airport terminal.

Reliability
The Vivid MVT is a three dimensional analysis technique using three fixed dual energy X-ray sources to reconstruct and analyze the contents
of each bag. In addition to measuring atomic number (Zeff) in each view, the Vivid MVT performs a complete three dimensional
reconstruction of the bag to accurately measure mass, density and other physical characteristics of objects in the bag. This high-speed
analysis results in a low false alarm rate and explosives detection compliant with the most demanding regulatory standards.
Flexible Applications
The Vivid MVT is designed to operate either as a freestanding system for use in an airport lobby or baggage hall or as an integrated part of
the baggage conveyor system. All accessories such as infeed and discharge conveyors required for freestanding installations in public are as
are designed as modular components, enabling simple "drop-in" installation.
Alarm Resolution
Trained security operators are most familiar with two dimensional X-ray images used to inspect suspect baggage. The Vivid MVT uses three
independent X-ray views to identify suspect materials with each view creating a familiar two dimensional image for the operator to use in

are designed as modular components, enabling simple "drop-in" installation.
Alarm Resolution
Trained security operators are most familiar with two dimensional X-ray images used to inspect suspect baggage. The Vivid MVT uses three
independent X-ray views to identify suspect materials, with each view creating a familiar two dimensional image for the operator to use in
resolving alarms in passenger baggage. Conventional training and image interpretation skills are fully applicable for high confidence alarm
resolution using the Vivid MVT. Operator workstations utilize L-3's advanced, patented touchpad interface. This "heads up" display maximizes
efficiency and minimizes operator fatigue. L-3's Full Matrix high speed fiber optic data network allows a single Vivid MVT to send bag images
to multiple operator workstations, effectively increasing system throughput and efficiency. Additionally, multiple Vivid MVTs can be linked
through the network to a pool of remote operators for integrated installations, reducing the total number of operators required to staff the
systems. This Full Matrix configuration also allows for the addition of Threat Image Projection(TIP), a critical component of a complete security
solution.
Seamless Integration
L-3s automated inspection systems have pioneered integrated checked baggage inspection. The Vivid MVT is designed to use the same
proven protocol to communicate with the baggage control system as our industry standard model VIS108. In fact, with the same
communication links and interface to the operator workstations, the Vivid MVT is fully compatible with the VIS108 Models, allowing airports
operating integrated VIS Models to upgrade to MVT with little modification to the existing baggage conveyor and control system.
Level 1
As part of an integrated checked baggage inspection process, the Vivid MVT provides a complete multi-level security solution from Level 1 X-
ray analysis to Level 3 threat resolution. The Vivid MVT uses L-3's proven Full Matrix architecture to network Level 2 and Level 3 workstations,
an MIS Bridge for management information, and Threat Image Projection system. Additional system components can be added as modules in
response to terminal expansion or changes in the regulatory environment.
Level 1 Operation
The Vivid MVT is designed to meet the world's most stringent detection and false alarm regulations. Additionally, the Vivid MVT incorporates L-
3's years of experience installing and maintaining automated detection systems in the world's busiest airports. With the largest tunnel
available, 1,800 bags per hour throughput and completely film safe operation, the Vivid MVT satisfies regulatory as well as operational
requirements for 100% checked baggage screening.
Level 3 Applications
The Vivid MVT is as equally well suited for Level 3 inspection, the critical final decision point in a multi-level inspection process, as it is for
Level 2. Alarm resolution is facilitated by presenting the security operator with all three X-ray views. In addition, the operator can be located
next to the Level 3 machine or in a remote inspection area, such as the Level 2 Workstation room. Combining these functions allows a smaller
staff to operate the entire system. Designed for use in a real world airport environment, the Vivid MVT provides the highest level of detection,
reliability and compatibility for Level 3 applications.
Level 3 Workstation
Integrated checked baggage inspection systems can make use of L-3's unique Level 3 Workstation for final threat resolution. Bags rejected by
the Level 1 Vivid MVT are sent to an operator at a Level 2 Workstation. If rejected by the Level 2 Operator, the bag image is sent to a Level 3
Workstation. The Level 3 Operator utilizes additional time and all three X-ray images to make a high confidence decision, thereby eliminating
the need for additional Level 3 inspection equipment.
Management Information

Timely management information allows supervisors to track system performance, alarm rates and throughput. The MIS Bridge creates a vital
link to the airport operations center. Utilizing a simple graphic interface, the MIS Bridge collects and displays network information including
Level 1 machine throughput, alarm rate, fault conditions, Level 2 Operator activity, decision times, etc. Real time access to this critical
information allows security and facilities managers to easily optimize your airport's baggage inspection operation.
*While the Vivid MVT met all the detection requirements for TSA certification it exceeded the maximum false alarm rate
allowed for certification.

L-3 Security and Detection Systems offers the Vivid VIS108 unit, a high-speed automated inline explosives detection system specifically
designed to meet the needs of multilevel hold baggage screening. The Vivid VIS108 provides high throughput, proven ease of inte-gration,
and outstanding reliability with a tunnel opening large enough for even oversized baggage.
The Vivid VIS108 automatically detects explosive material using a proprietary dual energy X-ray technique, together with Security and
Detection Systems proven advanced algorithm capabilities. These proven technologies combined with a new high speed computer platform
provide the customer of the highest level of automatic detection performance currently available.
The Vivid VIS108 is fully compatible with L-3's existing Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) Matrix Architecture and patented Level 2 Operator
Workstation and is designed to operate as an integrated unit within an airports conveyor system.
The Vivid VIS108 system is particularly well suited for airports, transportation operations and customs facilities where high speed
processing of large baggage, packages and other items is required.
As part of the Security and Detection Systems' family of products, the Vivid VIS108 shares in more than 25 years of experience in the
manu-facture of X-ray security products. With hold baggage screening systems installed in over 80 airports worldwide, and over 18 years
experience in system integration, Detection Systems provides the most comprehensive X-ray solutions available on the market today.
To further improve overall screening system efficiency, the Vivid VIS108 automated Level 1 system can be configured within the VIS Matrix
Architecture. The Vivid VIS108 automatically inspects 100% of the bags (up to 1800 bags per hour) on any conveyor. Bags cleared by the
Vivid VIS108 continue toward the sortation system and are loaded onto the aircraft. Bags rejected at Level 1 continue toward the sortation
system while the Vivid VIS108 sends an image of the bag to a Level 2 Operator Workstation for visual inspection.
The Level 1 Vivid VIS108 continues to automatically inspect bags while images of non-cleared bags are inspected by the Level 2 operator.
The Vivid VIS108 system offers significant improvement in detection performance while the VIS Matrix Architecture minimizes the number
of operators required to inspect baggage. Together, the VIS Matrix Architecture provides the most cost-effective solution for 100% hold
baggage inspection.

Ethernet Switch
Level 1 alarm bag images are sent to the Level 2 Operator Workstations through an Ethernet Switch. The Switch works as a router, creating
a connection between the Level 1 Vivid VIS108 system and the chosen Level 2 Operator Workstation. In addition to supporting multiple
Level 2 Operator Workstations, the Switch also supports the Vivid MIS Bridge, an information link to the airport management information
system. A fully redundant Switch configuration is offered to eliminate any potential single point of failure.

Level 2 Operator Workstation
Security and Detection Systems Matrix Architecture allows alarm bag images from multiple Level 1 X-ray machines to be inspected by a pool
of operators stationed at Level 2 Operator Workstations. Level 2 operators can be located up to 1000 meters from the Level 1 machines in a
comfortable, controlled working environment. Level 2 Operator Workstations provide all of the imaging tools required to clear or reject alarm
bag images. Decisions for Level 1 alarm bags are made by Level 2 operators while the bags continue moving on the conveyors toward their
final destinations.

Level 3 Operator Workstation
The fact that the Level 2 operator is unable to clear a suspect bag does not mean that the image they are viewing has insufficient
information to make a decision. Since the Level 2 Operator must make quick decisions (typically less than fifteen seconds), they may not
have had sufficient time to be able to clear a complicated bag. However, since the number of bags that are sent to Level 3 Operator
Workstation is so low, the Level 3 operator can take the time required to make a decision.
For these reasons, Security and Detection Systems' has developed a Level 3 Operator Workstation. All suspect images rejected by the Level 2
operator and those images for which no decision was made before the Level 3 decision point, are sent to the Level 3 Operator Workstation.
The Level 3 Operator Workstation has the same extensive array of image enhancement features as the Detection Systems' Level 2 Operator
Workstation and the operator has the advantage of additional time to analyze the image for threat determination.
