In the United States, from a population that reaches more than 317 million people, there are

currently about 11 million illegal residents, accordingly to the U.S. Census Bureau, who have come to the
country with the desire of adopting it as their home. They represent persistence and strength to fight for
their dreams and to provide a better future not only for themselves but for their loved ones. Immigrants
face a number of hardships, including poverty and discrimination, however, they have proven to have the
courage to overcome difficulties in a new a different world and sacrifice themselves when they leave their
countries and encounter the hardest risks or even death.
Illegal immigration represents a controversial topic and a significant issue that seems endless
since authorities have not presented an effective and beneficial solution to both undocumented
immigrants and the North Americans society. It is to mention that more than five million children, from
whom seventy five percent are illegal, living in the United States experience the fear of getting separated
from their parents who are undocumented. When parents are deported, children struggle to survive and
consequently are placed in a foster care, lacking family support, facing food hardships, or are sent back to
their countries being forced to abandon their lives, dreams, and achievements. Such is the case of
Christopher who, as reported by Latino America News 21,
was born in San Diego and when his mother was deported he
accompanied her back to Mexico. Or Eralia, a young lady
whose father was deported and eventually her family was
destroyed due to bad behaviors including drug and alcohol
abuse as consequences of the event.
The economy of the country is in some areas dependent on
the work on undocumented people due to the cheap labor and
hard work. On the other hand, it is argued by some that the
presence of illegal immigrants on the country is affecting
America because they are consuming U.S. government
money and obtaining rights that only American citizens
deserve. However, was not it stated by the Constitution that
every human being should be treated under the same rights?

A solution for illegal immigration is necessary and
the work of the U.S. Congress is not enough, the voice,
support, and unending effort of people is also needed and of great importance. This solution should start
with a change that represents a benefit and an opportunity to undocumented students, those who are the
future and whose dreams are big, those who want to support their caring parents. I am basing this idea on
a research I have previously conducted and from which I understood that deferred action exists. This
program allows undocumented people to work for a period of two years if they meet certain criteria
including the time they have been living in the country and when they entered it. However, I wonder why
does it have to follow such a complicated process? I think about the people that do not meet the
requirements or do not have the monetary means, and also, what happens to the person whose permission
cannot be renewed because the government did not allow it? I am proposing a legislature that states that
legal status cannot be questioned. Whether an illegal student is applying for a school, job, or scholarship
the main requirement is their resume as long as it shows an excellent GPA and a great contribution to the
society as in terms of volunteer or any other activity of the sort. If students prove to be outstanding once
they earn a degree, this legislature would let them look for a job by using their resume as the most

powerful tool. No matter where they come from, graduates will get a job and be successful while giving
back to the country that has given them so much.
