Xperia Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware (14.3.A.0.681) review
Another Verizon Xperia Z2 press image spotted
by XB on 12/05/2014
in Xperia Z2
At the start of the month, Sony Mobiles official social
channel inadvertently revealed an image showing a Verizon branded Xperia Z2.
The image showed the front of the handset, with the Verizon logo on top and Sony
logo at the bottom. Sony quickly pulled the image and reiterated that the handset
would be available in the US in its unlocked form during the summer.
Well now another Verizon Xperia Z2 has been outed via official Sony channels,
this time it comes from Sony Koreas official microsite for the handset. The image
below, taken from that page, shows the back of the handset with a Verizon logo on
the back, along with the 4G LTE symbol underneath. Whether or not we see the
Xperia Z2 on Verizon in the future, it looks like Sony got very close to making it
happen. [read more]

FIFA World Cup 2014 Xperia Theme leaks
by XB on 12/05/2014
in Tips & Tricks
If you have bought a new Sony Xperia phone within the last nine
months or so, there is a good chance that you would have noticed the FIFA World
Cup Brasil logo adorning a corner of the packaging. This is because Sony is one
of the main sponsors of this summers football extravaganza.
Sony will shortly release a FIFA Brazil World Cup 2014 Xperia Theme to
celebrate this fact. The theme managed to leak recently, however you can
download it from the link below. It will work on Sony Xperia handsets running
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and above. It will work for both rooted and non-rooted
handsets. The official theme is expected to hit the Google Play Store at some point
too, so well keep you posted. [read more]

in Xperia Z2
A quick heads-up for our Malaysian readers, the Sony
Xperia Z2 (D6503) has quietly gone on sale at a price point of RM 2,399 (440,
539, $742). All three colours of the Xperia Z2 (black, purple and white) are
available to order on the Sony Store Malaysia website. This is one of the cheapest
prices we have seen for the Xperia Z2 so far. Head over to the Sony Store if youre

Xperia Z2 hits pre-order in New Zealand exclusively
through Vodafone
by XB on 11/05/2014
in Xperia Z2
The Sony Xperia Z2 will today go on pre-order in New
Zealand exclusively through Vodafone. The website currently still has the Xperia
Z2 as Coming soon and we couldnt see pre-orders going live just yet, but it
should be up soon. The handset will then launch in New Zealand stores from 19
May 2014.
The unlocked Xperia Z2 is also listed on the Sony Store New Zealand website for
NZ$1,049.95 (537, 658, $905), with black and white colours listed. However,
the handset is not available to pre-order just yet. We dont know whether
Vodafones exclusivity extends to the unlocked models too at this stage. [read

Will we soon see DUALSHOCK 4 controller support for
Xperia devices?
by XB on 11/05/2014
in Games
A number of Sony Xperia PlayStation Certified devices come
with the extra boon of supporting the Sony PlayStation DUALSHOCK 3
controller. Now that the PlayStation 4 console is out, it surely must be a matter of
time before we see Xperia devices support the latest DUALSHOCK 4 controller.
This could come sooner than expected, at least according to Sony Mobile Middle
Easts social channels. They tweeted the following image when referring to the
Xperia T2 Ultra Dual. It clearly shows a game being played on the Xperia T2 Ultra
with the DUALSHOCK 4 controller. As mentioned earlier, we feel it is only a
matter of time before the newest PlayStation controller is supported. Well keep
you posted if anything comes from this. [read more]

Xperia ZL2 hands-on photos and videos
by XB on 10/05/2014
in Hands On, Videos, Xperia - Japan Models, Xperia Z1
Earlier this week, we saw a new Sony handset launch
in Japan for au by KDDI called the Xperia ZL2. The feature-set closely resembles
the Xperia Z2, although the design is different. The Xperia ZL2 comes with a
smaller 5-inch FHD display, a plastic back and a slightly smaller, but thicker
chassis than the Xperia Z2.
Reports from Japan indicate that the Xperia ZL2 will come with a VA panel,
similar to the Xperia Z1, which may disappoint some who were hoping to see Sony
adopt IPS panels for all of its future high-end phones. If you want to get a closer
look at the phone, weve included some hands-on photos and videos of the Xperia
ZL2 below. There are also some pics comparing the Xperia ZL2 against the Xperia
Z1, so you can see just how chunky it is. [read more]

Sony WCH10 Wireless Charger passes through the FCC
by XB on 10/05/2014
in Accessories, Rumours
If you cast your mind back to March, we reported that Sony
would launch some products to wirelessly charge the Xperia Z2 during the
summer. This included the Sony WCR12 Wireless Charging Cover and Sony
WCH10 Wireless Charging Plate.
Well the latter of these two accessories, the WCH10 Wireless Charger (FCC ID:
PY7-AC0010) has just passed through the FCC. The FCC documents confirm that
Sony is using the Qi inductive power standard and in some of the tests it used a
Nokia 920 to see how well it worked. [read more]

The Sony Xperia M2 (single-SIM) has received ClockworkMod-
based Recovery and Root. The Touch Recovery is built from CWM 6.0.4.6

below, including instructions and download links.

Sony may finally launch a successor to the Xperia
go/active in 2015
by XB on 09/05/2014
in Rumours, Xperia active, Xperia go
At the start of the year, we posted that we longed for a
successor to the Xperia active and Xperia go. We saw no such low/mid-level
rugged water resistant handset in 2013 and so far in 2014, weve still seen no sight
of one. This may change in 2015, as Digitimes is reporting that Sony Mobile plans
to launch sub-$300 water resistant handsets.
Digitimes cites sources at Taiwans handset component supply chain. It claims that
Sony wants to partner with these component suppliers to push waterproof handsets
in the low to mid-range sector. Perhaps it means we may see water resistant
versions of the Xperia E1 and Xperia M2 next year, which sounds good to us.

Xperia ZR sees KitKat build certified (10.5.A.0.230)
by XB on 09/05/2014
in Android, Firmware, Xperia ZR
A few days back, we saw a new Android 4.4.2 KitKat
firmware build certified for the Xperia Z, ZL and Tablet Z. The same build was
conspicuously missing for the Xperia ZR (C550X), fear not though as firmware
version 10.5.A.0.230 has been certified for both C5502 and C5503 models.
This build has now been certified for all variants of the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL,
Xperia ZR and Xperia Tablet Z. We would expect KitKat for these handsets to
launch within a matter of weeks, if not earlier. Well keep you posted. [read
