BRYNNE MCLEOD

Canadian mezzo-soprano Brynne McLeod began her studies at the University of Toronto with
Jean McPhail. After completing a Master of Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland
(formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama), she remained in Glasgow, where
she supplemented her singing work with a real job in arts administration. She eventually left
this job to pursue a full-time singing career, and joined the Flanders Opera Studio in Ghent,
Belgium. Brynne is now working as a freelance singer in Cologne, Germany. Diva on a Dare is
about the dare she has taken in choosing this path, and the many changes and challenges she
meets along the way.

Brynne has appeared as a soloist with several choirs throughout the United Kingdom and
Germany, and her range of oratorio repertoire includes Vivaldis Gloria, Handels Messiah,
Mozarts Requiem, and Rossinis Petite Messe Solonelle. In the course of her studies she has
participated in masterclasses with Sherrill Milnes, Daniel Taylor, Thomas Allen, and Ann Murray.
As a Britten-Pears Young Artist, she performed Bachs Johannespassion alongside Mark
Padmore at Snape Maltings. She also participated in masterclasses with the Internationale
Bachakademie Stuttgart, where she worked with Hedwig Fassbender and performed the alto
solo in Bachs Cantata 109 under the baton of Helmuth Rilling.

On the opera stage, Brynne has performed a variety of roles in baroque, classical, and
contemporary repertoire. Most recently, she performed the roles of Junon in Charpentiers
Acton, and Romy Schneider in the world premiere of Joris Blanckaerts new opera, Elle est moi
und tte mich.

A skilled ensemble singer, Brynne has performed with groups such as the Festival Ensemble
Stuttgart, Cappella Nova, the Red Note Ensemble, and the Choir Academy at the Schleswig-
Holstein Music Festival. Brynne is currently a member of the Gchinger Kantorei of the
Internationale Bachakademie Stuttgart.

When she is not singing, Brynne likes to spend time with her boyfriend in Sweden, or with her
family in Canada. She also enjoys reading, doing yoga, running, eating chocolate, and making
inexcusably terrible puns.
