The Establishment vs.

the Voters
The definition of the establishment is the permanent political class and structure that
makes up the leadership of the Republican Party in Washington, DC. They control the
rules of the party system, party elections, and funding disbursements. They are typically
ie!ed as more elitist, politically moderate, and out"of"touch !ith conseratie oters.
The establishment tends to support ideologically moderate candidates !hom they deem
safe and attempt to push their chosen candidates through primaries. They ie! !inning
at any cost more importantly than !inning !ith a conseratie candidate.
They also tend to operate under a good old boy system. They follo! the ne#t"in"line
strategy !hen it comes to elections, deciding !ho deseres it based on ho! long they
hae been around Washington and !ho has best built up a net!ork of fello!
establishment insiders.
The establishment !ants to presere the status $uo because they directly benefit from it
and don%t challenge the political"media industrial comple#.
This is the definition of the establishment inside the Republican Party. Its a ruling
class made up of professional politicians, lobbyists, corporate interests and kingmakers
who decide who gets elected, who gets contracts, and who does anything inside of
ashington, !.". and the #tate of $ississippi.
e ha%e a political campaign going on here in $ississippi & $c!aniel %s. "ochran &
where the names should be changed so that the a%erage person can see behind the
curtain. The names on the ballot should be made to read the establishment %s. the
%oters.
The establishment is made up of well'healed Republicans who are old school and
belie%e in the kingmakers ha%ing to bless anyone who runs for office under the
Republican banner. They do this not in order to protect the ideology of their party, but
rather to ensure the proper operation of their money machine.
There is no one who understands this process better than former (o%ernor )aley
*arbour as he has been on both sides of the establishment table, an officeholder and a
highly'paid lobbyist. )aley has made millions of dollars through the contacts he made
while in office and wants to continue to protect his access to the federal piggy bank by
keeping the non'establishment candidates from gaining office.
I mean, what in the world would happen if a candidate got elected who did not owe the
establishment e%erything for selecting them and helping them get elected+ To hear
some of them tell it, it would be like ,rmageddon here on earth or at least in
ashington, !.".
McDaniel vs. Cochran
This has by far turned into the ugliest campaign in modern day $ississippi history. I
wrote a column a few weeks ago saying that I respected #enator "ochran as a
gentleman and for all he has done for our state during his time in the #enate. ell, I do
still appreciate the man "ochran used to be, but I cant say I like this new "ochran who
has emerged from the shadows.
"hris $c!aniel has run a good and clean campaign discussing only the issues and the
fact that #enator "ochran has ser%ed too long. -n the other hand, #enator "ochran and
his people ha%e attempted to paint $c!aniel as the de%il beast himself, an e%il trial
lawyer at best.
I ha%e heard, as though scripted by the establishment o%er the past few days, that
#enator "ochran is going to win ./'0/. ,s someone who has spent 12 years in politics I
cant laugh any harder at that assertation.
3irst, if that were true and "ochrans polls were saying that he had that big of a lead, the
#enator would not ha%e discarded his gentlemanly image by going so negati%e on
$c!aniel. 4o, it has to be much closer than those numbers.
,lso, if they had a poll saying that "ochran was anywhere close to winning big, wouldnt
you think they would ha%e sent those numbers to the press+ I certainly would ha%e if I
were running the "ochran campaign.
The "ochran camp is running scared. If the truth comes out about the picture taken of
$s. Rose "ochran in her poor physical state in her assisted li%ing home in $adison, I
am certain it will show that someone from the "ochran camp was in%ol%ed in that effort.
I belie%e it was done in hopes of gaining the #enator some sympathy %ote in the wake of
the bad press he has been getting in recent weeks about his administrati%e assistant.
Those reports indicate she has been tra%eling all o%er the world with him and that he his
li%ing in her !.". home.
ho else could ha%e arranged for the blogger to get a room number and a pass from
security to gain access to the room+ $c!aniel certainly would not ha%e had that
access5 only someone from the "ochran team would be able to pull that off.
I do not in any way suggest that "ochran himself was in%ol%ed in this effort as it is
repugnant, to say the least. I do not belie%e he would e%er do that to his own wife.
)owe%er, the establishment will stop at nothing to keep their power and control. (o back
and watch the mo%ie ag the !og from a few years ago. It shows you a little about
how far the !.". establishment is willing to go to keep their people in power.
There is e%en more proof of the establishments true goals here.
#enator "ochran is not up to the challenge of another full si6'year term in office,
physically or mentally. If that was not the case, he should ha%e debated $c!aniel.
7%en if one takes the notion that he should not ha%e debated him as he has nothing to
gain, the #enator certainly should ha%e been gi%ing more press access and doing town
hall meetings.
#enator "ochran is doing few inter%iews. )e is being walked hand in hand by his
handlers around the state shaking hands and smiling. The only time you hear his %oice
on his own T8 commercials is when, by law, he states $y name is Thad "ochran and I
appro%e this message.
!o the math and figure this out. Its pretty easy to see that the establishment is simply
trying to prop "ochran up and s9ueak through this election. If the Republicans retake
the #enate, which they may %ery well do, "ochran can retake his place as chairman of
the ,ppropriations "ommittee for two years only. Those two years will be spent poking
as much money as possible into the pockets of the establishment, the lobbyists, the
corporate interests and kingmakers.
It gets better though.
,fter those two years are o%er, "ochran will decide he cannot continue to do the :ob due
to health reasons and will resign, lea%ing the establishments go%ernor, Phil *ryant, to
appoint whome%er the establishment wants to succeed "ochran.
They most likely already ha%e this person selected & waiting in the wings & and will do at
all costs what it takes to keep the %oters of $ississippi from being able to pick their own
senator, now or later.
It was easy to see out of the bo6 that the establishment was for "ochran and why. ,s I
ha%e learned from my many years in this awful business, follow the money and you will
find the answer & always.
Take a look at the people getting paid huge money now for pro%iding access to "ochran.
It goes from the *arbour family to Phil *ryants former staffers and so many others down
the line that it would take %olumes to write all of the establishments attorneys, lobbyists
and consultants who are making their money off of #enator "ochran remaining in office.
hy would they want the electorate to make a change or ha%e a say in whom holds the
office+ To the establishment that office and all of its perks and money belong to them,
not to the hard' working people of $ississippi.
If you are not part of the establishment & and most of us are not & then its time to send
them a message and tell them that $ississippians choose who represents them in
ashington, !."., not them.
I do not agree with "hris $c!aniel on some issues and I do not think his election will
sol%e e%erything thats wrong in ashington, but it will send a strong message and at
least be a real start.
-ur founding fathers did it years ago when they threw off the chains of bondage placed
on them by the *ritish "rown.
-n ;une 0
rd
, %ote for a real change, %ote for someone who will not be owned or told what
to do by the establishment. 8ote for "hris $c!aniel and lets send a message that can
be heard all around our country that we are not gi%ing the right to our go%ernments
powerful office to the ruling, elitist, professional political crowd known as the
establishment.
