Allen Releases Taxes;
Encourages Disclosure

State Senate candidate Tim Allen and his wife Mary today released five years of joint
federal income tax returns in the spirit of full disclosure and encouraged his Democratic
opponents and the Republican candidate to do the same in offering voters the deeper level
of transparency I believe they deserve to see from those running for elective office.

The Allens, who reside at 141 Newton Road in Springfield, released federal tax
returns for the past five years, 2009 through 2013. The returns for Tim and Mary Allen, a
professor of early education at Springfield College, show the couples adjusted gross
income of $159,652 in 2009; $132,277 in 2010; $151,050 in 2011; $151,235 in 2012; and
$159,954 in 2013. The couple paid federal taxes of $33,309 in 2009; $25,301 in 2010;
$30,462 in 2011; $29,815 in 2012; and $33,433 in 2013.

Allens 2013 income was derived from a $43,337 MassMutual pension after a 27-
year management career at the company, $22,300 from his teaching as an adjunct
professor at Elms College and Springfield College and $14,500 from his service as a
Springfield City Councilor. His wife Marys income is derived from her work as a full-time
professor at Springfield College and from occasional educational consulting work.

The couple also reported a loss on two rental properties in which they have an
interest. The first property, located in Sturbridge, is owned in partnership with three
siblings, each year resulting in a net loss ranging from $17 to $2,212 reported in 2010. The
couple also owns a rental property in Mashpee with reported small net losses for the past
five years.

Allen said, I am releasing my tax returns today in the spirit of full disclosure and to
help voters in the district get to know a little more about me. Release of my joint returns
with my wife Mary is more than a symbolic gesture and provides some insight into my
professional interests and my commitment to transparency.
