Some people think that tourism has negative influences on local cultures, but others think it

has brought many benefits to them. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Over the past few decades, globalization and mobility has developed in leaps and bounds. As a
result of it, tourism industry is mushrooming. Some adopt a view that indigenous cultures of host
countries could be damaged; however, as far as I am concerned, its advantages far outweigh its
disadvantages.
Firstly, it has tremendous benefits to local economy. In fact, the natives are of a good opportunity to
earn handsome money from serving international tourists. A good case in this point is Vietnam, in
which local companies can make bulk money through services such as selling souvenirs,
conventional opera performances. Therefore, the ignorance of tourisms instrumental role to those
destinations development is a grave mistake.
Secondly, it also has contributions to the education of locals. Given the regular interpersonal
interaction with people who are from different cultures, the natives can either comprehend the
cultural differences or enhance foreign languages. For instance, indigenous students can broaden
their horizons about English, which is now the global language thanks to communication with
Western people. Thereby, not only economics but also the education of host countries it
benefited/enjoying extreme interests from international travelling.
Yet, it is to bring problems. Usually, the locals, especially youngsters are prone to give high weight
to foreign culture and underestimate their mother culture. What is in store for us in the future, if
this practice continues, could be the erosion of national identities. Similarly, the exotic culture
could be increasingly dominant when the number of foreign visitors increases by time.
In conclusion, as every garden has its weeds, tourism also has pros and cons. But in my opinion, the
gains far outstrip the pitfalls based on the above mentioned facts.
