45"5675"689. In 5"68 0illiam +unter be3ueathed his substantial and varied collections to the ,niversity of
Glasgow. +unter2s collection is a rare survival of an eighteenth:century picture cabinet and includes
masterpieces by ;ean:<aptiste 'im=on &hardin, $hilips de >oninck, .embrandt, George 'tubbs and rans
'nyders. (he unrivalled 0histler collection is centred on the artist2s estate and includes student work,

designer and artist, &harles .ennie !ackintosh 456A6:5BC69 and his artist:wife, !argaret !acdonald
!ackintosh 456AD:5B889. (he couple lived at "6 'outhpark Avenue 4originally A lorentine (errace9 from 5B#A
to 5B5D. (he principal interiors were decorated in his distinctive style, remarkable then, and now, for the
disciplined austerity of the furnishings and decoration. (he house was demolished in the early 5BA#s, but the
original fixtures were preserved and reassembled. (he architects took pains to ensure that the se3uence of
rooms exactly reflected the original. (he interiors have been furnished with the !ackintoshesE own furniture, all
to !ackintoshEs design.

(he museum uses its collections of vehicles and models to tell the story of transport by land and sea, with a
uni3ue Glasgow flavour. +ere you will find the oldest surviving pedal cycle and the finest collection in the

Go!A is the second most visited contemporary art gallery outside %ondon, offering a thought:provoking

Glasgow &athedral is built on the site where 't >entigern, or !ungo, the first bishop within the ancient <ritish
kingdom of 'trathclyde, was thought to have been buried in AF A5C. (he present cathedral was built during the
58th to 5Gth centuries and is the only medieval cathedral on the 'cottish mainland to have survived the 5GA#
.eformation. Glasgow &athedral is on the eastern edge of Glasgow city centre and is accessible on foot from
the centre by walking north up +igh 'treet from Glasgow &ross 4!erchant city9, or by going east along
cathedral 'treet from <uchanan 'treet. (he -ecropolis is on high ground adjacent to Glasgow &athedral and is
not very accessible to anyone who has difficulty walking up steep and sometimes soft paths.
