Dear. &
Reviewof Injury onDuty Awards
As you may. be aware from correspondence from NARPO and the Avon and Somerset Police
Federation, the new Police Pension Regulations are due to be published in the near future. In view of
this, together with recent guidance received regarding the process to be adopted in respect of reviews
of injury on duty awards, i t has been decided that the review process will begin inthe near future.
Representatives of HR, the Occupational Health Unit and the Police Federation have liaised to agree
the process to be followed inthis force and this is outlined inthe attached documents. You will see that
you are asked to complete and return a questionnaire, along with three consent forms which will enable
the Selected Medical Practitioner (SMP) and the Pensions Department to obtain relevant records when
assessing your award. You will also see from the attachments that should there be any change to the
level of your award, this will be implemented one month from the date of the letter of notification and if
you are dissatisfied with the outcome, there is an appeal procedure.
As you will note from the attached, the first step is to ask you to complete and return the questionnaire
together with the consent forms. The Occupational Health Unit will then assess whether the SMP
needs to meet with you and they will contact you direct and will contact your GP or consultant if
necessary.
May I strongly recommend that you read the attached documents as they explain the process to be
followed and the possible consequences should you choose not to engage with the review.
I should be grateful if you would complete and return the enclosed questionnaire within 14 days of the
date of this letter. If you would prefer an electronic version, please let us know your e-mail address and
we will arrange for this to be sent We will, however, still need the consent forms to be signed and
returned through the post in order for the Occupational Health Unit to have your authority to approach
your GP/specialist as necessary.
