I. COURSE DESCRIPTION

A review of mathematical concepts designed to develop skills in basic applications. The course focuses on
computation and conversion involving whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and square roots.
Prerequisite: PSS1100 (CF 1100)

II. COURSE COMPETENCIES/OBJECTIVES

Solve mathematical problems using properties of whole numbers.
Evaluate and simplify variable expressions.
Apply geometry concepts of perimeter and area to triangles, squares, and rectangles.
Add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers, fractions, and decimals.
Evaluate square roots.
Use the distributive property.
Graph points on the coordinate plane.
Graph lines uniting the intercept, slope, and y-intercept methods.
Solve linear equations including those with fractions.

IV. INSTRUCTIONAL METHODS

Instructional methods may consist of, but are not limited to, lectures (staff and guest), PowerPoint and
other computer presentations, audio and video presentations, off site tours (field trips) quizzes and
exams. Some sections may include blended learning techniques.

Problem solving techniques

*Quarter Contact Hour Definition:

A quarter contact hour is an amount of work represented in intended learning outcomes and verified by evidence
of student achievement that is an institutionally established equivalency that reasonably approximates not less
than:

(A) One hour of classroom or direct faculty instruction and a minimum of two hours of out-of-class student
work each week for four weeks.

(B) Where lab work is required at least an equivalent amount of work as required in paragraph (A) of this
definition for other academic activities as established by the institution including laboratory work,
internships, practica, and other academic work leading to the award of credit.
