Background to Stage 3

Comment that you are going to refer back to your Stage 2 Action Plan, evaluate your development and
how far your selected approaches, methods, techniques and materials have gone in helping you develop,
and finally that you are going to set goals for the next stage of the RA assignment. (25 words)

Identify key developments in your teaching since Stage 2
Look back at your Stage 2. What has changed about your beliefs and your teaching since then? How far
did the approaches, methods, techniques and materials you selected aid your development? What
evidence does the data reveal about your development? (Be honest here - it is equally vital to comment if
something has not worked, and consider why this might be the case). (250 300 words)

Identify and comment on your most significant current weaknesses
At this point, based on your data, and feedback from supervisors and tutors, what do you feel to be the
most significant current weaknesses of your teaching? You can consider planning and execution here. It
is also possible to continue to focus on issues you raised at Stage 2, if you feel you still need to work on
them. Again, there is no stipulated number you should mention, but you should aim to mention three
areas you would like to focus on. (150 words)

Draw up your Action Plan
Look back at the three weaknesses you identified in the previous section. How do you intend to improve?
Remember that you need to provide concrete suggestions of approaches, methods, techniques of
materials here, and, if relevant, refer to your reading and any suggestions made by colleagues and
supervisors. If appropriate, you can choose to use the same, or similar, strategies that you selected at
Stage 2, as long as you can justify this selection. The frame In order to , I intend to is very useful.

Description of Data Collection Methods
Describe how you plan to find out the effectiveness of the approaches, methods, techniques of materials
you selected in the previous section. What are you going to do to gather data? If you decide to design an
observation sheet for an observer, include an example as an appendix. Again, you can select methods
you have used earlier, as long as you can justify their selection. Say why you have chosen these
particular aspects. (100 words)
