GENERAL OVERVIEW Strategic management is an essential component of company growth. It consists of analyzing the constraining forces that a firm is subject to be it from the industry or from competition - and determining the paths of action that it can take both by itself and in collaboration to shape the conditions of its success. It encompasses four major topics: Strategy, covering the whole analytical process from the analysis of the opportunities and threats towards the environment (structure of the competitive environment, market segmentation and market share, technological and innovative processes...), to the strengths and weaknesses of the company, leading to a durable and sustainable competitive advantage for the company Structure, i.e. how a company is organized according to the chosen strategy. This includes the organizational design and management projects The Decision-Making Process, including how strategy and structure will be implemented in particular planning, management control and information system design The identity of the company, which determines how employees commit themselves to sharing common and fundamental objectives, values and corporate culture and play an active part in their implementation. This includes managing the corporate culture and developing common values. In short, strategic management is the art of positioning a firm in a turbulent environment to map out a path to excellence both unique and unmatchable. It requires a strong command of tools and analytical processes based on a rigorous approach. Our HEC MSc/MS in Strategic Management aims to fulfill these objectives within a very short period of time. This goal is met by leveraging on the specific knowledge and experience that our students acquire before joining HEC Paris. We offer two different tracks designed for students with either a business or non- business background: The Business Track is aimed at recent graduates with a degree from a top institution in domains related to business administration, management, applied economics, or equivalent. The Accelerated Track is designed for students with no business related academic background, such as engineers, law, life science, and medical professions. They start the program with introductory-level courses in Accounting, Economics and Marketing. The Business and Accelerated tracks have their own curriculum during the Fall term and attend together every week methodological training and top firms presentations on campus. From January on, students choose courses from a common pool of electives. Students from both tracks are offered equal career opportunities at the end of the program. 9 PROGRAM STRUCTURE AND COURSE OFFER Course Portfolio: Core courses Business Strategy Corporate Strategy Strategic Cost Analysis Corporate Finance Strategic Implementation Competition and Regulation Elective courses (examples) Strategic Negotiation Private Equity Strategies Disruptive Business Models Value Creation New Media based Strategies Management of Change Global Value Chain Offshoring Strategies Strategy and Sustainable Development Strategy in Emerging Countries Value Proposition Business models and Business plan Professional Seminars Methodology for Analysis and Strategic Consulting Job interview training Company Project (fieldwork on organizational and strategic issues) Workshops with Strategy Consulting Firms Career Preparation Preparing for the test case in the recruitment of consulting firms Communication skills Workshop Building your Professional Path Preparing for the Interview.
