Top-Down and Bottom-Up Reading

TOP-DOWN READING --
approaching a text on the basis of prior content, language, or textual
schemata that the reader might have with regard to that particular
text.

BOTTOM-UP --
focusing exclusively on what is in the text itself, and especially on
the words and sentences in the text. Also called text-based or data-
driven reading.
