04 | TECHNICAL SKI IMPROVEMENT

TECHNICAL SKI
IMPROVEMENT

When youre goodbut know you should be better!

Skiing; its funny old sport when
you think about it. You pay a
fortune to fly out there, stay in
a chalet and for the privilege of
sliding down a snow-covered
mountainside. You want to look
good, youre more than happy to
drop hundreds on a new pair of
skis in the hope this will improve
your technique. But how about
this; dont shell out for a new
jacket or pants this season and,
instead, spend the money on
getting some lessons to make you
into a controlled, efficient and
beautiful rider?
SnowSkool technical ski training
courses are for you if you know
that what you need is a course
rather than a series of lessons.
The overall aim is to help you jump
from the plateau that many skiers
find themselves on (with one or
two weeks on-snow per year) and
begin to ski harder terrain in a
more controlled fashion. Oh and,
once and for all, nail the moguls!

snowskool.com

SnowSkool technical courses: we

are going to make you ski better.
Simple. All trainers assigned
to teach SnowSkool technical
courses will be the most highlyqualified and experienced ski
instructors. In France, we use BASI
ISTD (International Ski Teachers
Diploma) instructors. In Japan,
we use Aussie instructors that
hold the APSI Level 4 qualification.
Both are equivalent to the highest
level of any national bodies
snowsport instructor qualifications
in the world. You will be assigned
the same trainer for the duration
of your SnowSkool course.

WE ARE GOING TO MAKE

YOU SKI BETTER. SIMPLE.

06 | SKI POP!

SKI
POP!
P ark O ff-piste P owder
Ok so it is a cheesy name but you
have to admit it works!
The Ski POP course is for skiers
that are looking to improve
broader aspects of their skiing,
covering all terrain and all
conditions. There will be an initial
focus on general ski improvement
as the class settles in, your trainer
assesses abilities and clarifies
the training requirements of the
group. The focus of Ski POP weeks
will depend on the conditions in
resort at that time but it will be all
about the pow, the kickers and
the backcountry !

Park Freestylin is no longer just

for snowboarders and some of the
coolest kidz in the park today are
on two planks. The Ski POP course
will focus on jumps and, more
precisely, 180s and 360s as well as
some grabs and the odd flip.
Off-piste For many, the terrain
accessed by going under the
rope is where it is at. Treeruns, natural half-pipes & (mini)
cliff drops provide the kind of
adrenaline kick that, for some
skiers, the slopes no longer can.
Well take you theresafely!
Powder No-one likes skiing
powder for the first time but, when
you have nailed it, you will never
look back. It is like silently floating
on a bed of cotton wool as
whispers of snow caress your face
in a mellow and seductive wayor
something like that!

All trainers assigned to teach

SnowSkool Ski POP courses will
be the most highly-qualified
ski instructors. All will also be
specialised and experienced
freestyle/ free-ride trainers.
You will be assigned the same
trainer for the duration of your
SnowSkool course.

ALL ABOUT THE POW,

THE KICKERS AND THE
BACKCOUNTRY ...!

08 | SNOWBOARD POP!

SNOW
BOARD
POP!

P ark O ff-piste P owder

Everybody loves to get some
POP on their board!
Technical on-piste improver courses
for snowboarders have never held
that much appealfor todays rider,
it is all about the Park, the Offpiste and the Powder! Well spend
the first morning assessing your
general riding ability and nailing
down where the weeks focus
lies we know the broad focus of
Snowboard POP weeks but some
of this is condition-dependant - and
then were off into the stratosphere!

Park Its fair to say that you aint

all that at snowboarding until
youre all that at freestyle. Without
a downhill/ slalom/ GS pedigree,
the evolution of snowboarding is
inextricably linked to the evolution
of freestyle. The Snowboard POP
course is Jump Schoolthink 180s,
360s, grabs and progressing onto
front and back flips.
Off-piste For many, the
backcountry is where it is at.
The lure of tree-runs, natural
half-pipes and unpredictable
terrain & conditions is essential in
driving your riding forward. But
unpredictable is not for everyone
so well hold your hand as we go
where others have not!
Powder Skiers can say what they
want but any teacher of Physics
will tell you that riding pow is
better on a board. Standing at the
top of a wide-open powder field,
clipping in and getting ready to
drop in - its better than(fill
in the blanks!)

EVERYBODY
LOVES TO GET SOME
POP ON THEIR BOARD!

10 | SNOWSKOOL RESORTS

RESORTS
SnowSkool Improver Camps take place in three
cracking resorts in two countries renowned,
in different ways, for their skiing.

WORLDS LARGEST
AND THE WORLDS FAVOURITE
SKI AREA

Japan: Hakuba, Nagano.

Japan: Niseko, Hokkaido.

Ideal for our clients from the UK

and Europe. The Three Valleys is
the worlds largest and the worlds
favourite ski area. At the heart of
the Three Valleys, Mribel is our
base but we will be riding in all
valleys, out in the backcountry
in between and sessionning the
many freestyle parks in what is
the ultimate ski area.

Popular with our Australian clients.

Hakuba Valley is located four
hours NW of Tokyoor <2hours on
the Shinkansen (bullet train)!
The Valley has ten resorts with
over 200 runs served by 139 lifts
and played host to the 1998 Winter
Olympics Games! Hakuba also has
four parks Happo High, Hakuba
47, Tsugaike and Yanaba with
some sick features.

Very popular with Aussies, Niseko is

located on the island of Hokkaido in
the north of Japan. Niseko is most
famous for its snowfallit averages 15
metres (thats 50 feet!) of the white
stuff per seasonand, because the
resort is at a low altitude, it rarely
experiences any whiteouts! And if you
tire of riding pow (?!?!), Hanazono has
three terrain parks with a range of
features, including an airbag!
