Renewable Energies are becoming increasingly
important around the world. Climate change and
resource scarcity are the only two arguments to
promote the generation of energy from renewable.
The European Union (EU) has published a
directive on renewable energies (2009/28/EC) in
2009 and thereby sets a worldwide trend. With this
directive the EU intends to promote the generation
of energy from Biomass, among others by
targeting a proportion of 20% biomass use for total
energy production in 2020 and a 10% share of
biofuels in the transport sector for the same year.
n that respect biomass has become an important
resource for renewable energy production
worldwide, especially within the EU. ts market
relevance will continue to grow strongly in the
future. t provides an environmentally-friendly
alternative to fossil energy resources, contributing
to the reduction of carbon emissions and
protecting the climate.
The trend for sustainable biomass generation has
been set within the energy and biofuel sector. Also
in other areas (such as cosmetics and the food
industry) this topic increasingly gains importance.
Furthermore, the air traffc might demand large
amounts of biofuel in near future as the aviation
sector will be included in the emissions trading
system of the EU in 2013.
The demand for sustainably produced biomass will
intensively increase within the next years which
will be refected in the pricing. First studies on
price development of biomass show that prices for
sustainable palm oil are already 25-30 higher
than the conventional palm oil, whereas the
certifcation costs are being expected to stay
below 3-10% of this price, depending on the
overall amount to be certifed.
Thus, it is highly attractive to get sustainable
grown biomass certifed and sell it as that on the
international, especially the EU market.

purchase for a waste management system,
namely the technology transfer of BA's integrated
biogas and BAGUS Advance Furrow
Composting System. BA is capable of designing
any waste management projects according to the
needs and budget of the project entity and is
therefore in a unique position to transfer their
environmental friendly process in the form of an
EPCC package i nvol vi ng engi neeri ng,
procurement, construction, and commissioning.
Our composting technology was derived from
Australia but the Founder of BA has since
modifed this technology to suit the local tropical
environment and developed, through its R&D, a
Palm Waste Management System. The use of a
cocktail of locally cultured decomposting and
lignolytic inoculums designed by BA's consultant
microbiologist has also been incorporated into the
waste management system to accelerate the
decomposting process.
Besides, we also possess soil enhancement
microorganisms (nitrogen fixer, phosphate
solubilisers and zinc holder) which can be value
added to the organic compost to qualify product
as a bio-fertilizer.
We also possess bio-fungicide (Trichoderma)
which acts as an effcient biological control agent
for the treatment of several soil pathogenic fungi
& suppression of various disease causing fungal
pathogens.

Everise started cultivation of kenaf in middle of
2009 on more than 30 hectares land leased from
farmers, at Pasir Putih, Kelantan. We have
achieved in cultivating an eco-friendly plant, i.e.
kenaf, on a piece of rehabilitated acidic land not
cultivated for over 35 years due to poor soil
condition, and value-adding this bio-mass into high
value natural fibre composite products for
construction materials.
Everise produces kenaf composite building
materials from Kenaf plant that is fast growing,
absorb high rate of carbon dioxide, thus making it
a leading bio-fbre source that would help improve
the green index for building industry. The plastics
mixed into the composite can be recycled ones.
Profles produced look and feel of wood but none
of the maintenance hassle of wood. They are
durable, can be moulded to realistic wood
appearance, with desired shapes and sizes. The
profles are used at domestic hotels, resorts,
offces and houses, and as decks and walkways.
The decks are currently being fxed at goat barns,
too. The profles can be redesigned into garden
and household furniture.
Tests are underway under SRM Ecolabelling
Scheme for company to achieve SO4001.
Everise requires:

to grave green compliance.
To upgrade machinery that could improve
technical and production effciency, utilising

ensure chemical utilised complies with Green

1. All Biodiesel manufacturer or producer to be
given a subsidy. t is very competitive to sell
biodiesel against the subsidy price of
conventional diesel.
2. Stop exporting waste oil such as Used Cooking
Oil or Waste Vegetables Oil.
3. Control the collection of waste oil including
Used Cooking Oil or Waste Vegetables Oil to
make sure that all collection of waste oil are
collected NOT FOR HUMAN USE AND
CONSUMPTON
4. Set up cooperative to do all the collection of all
waste oil.
5. Add or amend the act on The Environmental
Protection Act places a Duty of Care on every
individuals, companies and industry to ensure
that all reasonable steps are taken to look
after any waste you have and prevent its illegal
disposal by others and wrongly use for human
use and consumption, this includes waste
cooking oils and fats.
6. Educate the public about the important and the
knowledge about the affect of using used
cooking oil for human consumption. Create
awareness to the public about the hazards.

European Union (EU) region for biodiesel or

a) Environment performance plan (EPP):
Alternative fuel is on the rise across the globe
and biofuel or biodiesel, set to be the one of the
energy sources in the world, undoubtedly has
a big potential to contribute towards reducing
the worlds dependency on fossil fuels and
mitigating climate change. To this, PZ Bio
Energy Sdn. Bhd. is playing its role to help
Malaysias move towards reducing its
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by
developing Biofuel plant which utilises used
cooking oil or waste oil. Such undertaking

The 2000Mt Biofuel plant in Ulu Tiram, Johor
Bahru, and Johor will be commissioned by
February 2011 and it is expected to generate
30000 tons/year CO2 deductions toward
transportation sector.

organic fertilizer that is produced is marketed
nationwide to farm owners, plantation owners etc.
Vata VM is also involved in agro waste
management together with Waste Solutions (A
Member of CPG global, New Zealand) by
marketing Biogas Technology for Palm oil millers
in Malaysia and ndonesia. Biogas can be used to
replace natural gas, liquid gas like petrol, diesel
and boiler fuel or to produce electricity and heat.
Fourthly, the company is also a distributer to EP
Asia products which is ecofriendly nontoxic,
nonfammable & Biodegradable cleaners coating
& waterproofng system.
We have established a JV company with the
largest Cooperative in the Country, National Land
Finance Corporation (NLFCS). Our JV Company
Minsawi Vata Biofertilizer Sdn Bhd has been
formed to convert NLFCS palm oil mill waste into
organic fertilizer/soil conditioners to be applied
back to NLFCS plantations.
We have applied for GTFS fund; however we are
open to third party investment.
VATA has also drawn up collaboration plan with 4
entities:
1. Sime Darby Plantation.
2. Kuala Lumpur Kepong Plantation KLK
3. Private Millers.
We are already in negotiation with some of the
above entities to establish a composting plant to
produce biofertilizer and compound fertilizer.
Some of them who have Plantations with mill,
therefore the end product can be applied to their
plantation under a guaranteed buyback scheme
with a set period of concession. Private millers
usually do not have plantation, therefore we plan
collaborate with Our plan is to forerunner in
establishing our brand VATA ASL range of
fertilizer to be marketed locally and for exports.
We aim to implement SO 14001 Environmental
Management System (EMS) in our composting
plant which is currently under construction and
expected to be ready for implementation of EPP
in 12-18 months' time.
Conversion of EFB and POME into compost offers

The organic fertilizers are safe for use and
promotes healthy and improved environment for
inhabitants. The organic fertilizer produced via this
project contains insoluble nitrogen and are slow
release fertilizers whereby their effectiveness can
be greater than conventional nitrogen fertilizers. t
promotes high crop yield by preventing crop
disease, increases the output and improves quality
of the crops. The usage of organic fertilizer
promotes organic industries which is essential in
supporting sustainable eco system that will ensure
the quality of life on our planet.

The Company was set up by a group of
professionals to actively manufacture biomass to
produce Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) from
Agro-Based product. This project represents
commercialisation of research results which
comes under the programme of 'Transfer of
Technologies (TOT)' by Malaysian Palm Oil Board
(MPOB). The Company signed the Memorandum
of Agreement (MOA) with MPOB to commercialise
their technology to produce CMC from Oil Palm
Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) on 22
nd
May 2008.
From MPOBs R&D process technology, we
develop the process and equipment design for a
commercial plant set-up to produce Cellulose, as
an intermediate product and CMC as a fnal
product with an annual capacity of 1200mt. CMC
is an anionic, water soluble and biodegradable
polymer on natural basis and it is also the most
versatile of all water soluble hydrocolloids. Thus,
CMC is a Hydrophilic Polymer that can act in
increasing the viscosity and the stability of
foodstuff. CMC is widely used in various industries
such as food, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics.
Other industries for example detergents, drilling
fuids, glue, ceramics, dye and paint stuffs also
make use of CMC.
Waris Nove will initially produce CMC of technical
grade to cater the detergent industry for import
replacement before developing for food grade
CMC within two years of operation.
The company requires assistance in achieving the
SO 14001 on Environmental Management System
(EMS). We need the coaching based on zero
knowledge from all aspect.

market potential for EU, business matching

Environment Performance Plan:
Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) which is a by-
product of Oil Mill factory is widely available of
which about 65% of EFB is either incinerated for
bunch ash or recycled back to plantation as
mulching or used as solid fuel in the boilers to
generate steam and electricity for the mills. By
removing the lignin in the EFB, we are able to
produce Cellulose which is bio-polymer, bio-
degradable, tasteless, odourless and non-toxic
which has various application for food and non-
food industry. Cellulose from EFB in the form of its
derivatives, Carboxymethylcellulose is also bio-
degradable, odorless, tasteless and non-toxic.
By maximizing the utilisation of empty fruit
bunches to form products of high value which not
only comply with the zero waste strategy, but also
contributes to the reduction of greenhouse gases
(GHG) to further mitigate global warming. The
Company is planning to implement Environmental
Management System (EMS) SO 14001 in the
company manufacturing operation to ensure that
the environmental aspects in producing Cellulose
and CMC are carefully managed.
