Executive Summary
The study paper on this course topic is done under the supervision of our respected course teacher, Md. Sajib Hossain, lecturer of Department of Finance, University of Dhaka. We are thankful to him for giving us the opportunity and proper guidance to prepare and submit the report. The economy of Bangladesh is a rapidly developing market based economy. For open market policy, cheap labor force, geographical location and abundance of natural resources, this country is now taking a fruitful position in the world economy. Because of lower income, low FDI and negative value of port folio investment, we are facing trade deficit. Though our import exceeds export, our economy is emerging and shows a positive trend in international trade. In this report, we tried to analyze the composition of our foreign trade, performance and trend over the last two decades. We tried to find out the trade balances and our major importing and exporting goods over last 22 years. Our study shows a tremendous growth in export of ready- made garments and other industrial sector. Though concentrated only to a few industries and dependent on few markets like the USA, the UK and Canada, our country can improvise its current condition through diversification along with proper guidance and assistance by both the public and private sectors.
