Objectives
This lesson aims:
1. The student to be able to give the meaning of fraction.
2. The student to be able to determine the similar fraction, dissimilar fraction.
3. The student to be able to identify the numerator and denominator in a fraction.
4. The student to be able to add fractions.
B. Daily Routine
1. Prayer
Our almighty God and our savior, forgive us in our sins and the wrong things we
did to others. We thank you Lord for giving us another day, for all the blessings you
gave and for all the guidance and love. Give us wisdom and knowledge for us to
understand the lessons and activities for this day. Protect and bless us and our family.
This we pray in Jesus name, Amen.

D. Lesson Proper
I. Motivation
Good morning class! How is your weekend? Alright, so I hope youre ready for a
new interesting lesson for today. But before I discuss it, does everyone knows how to
divide a whole, not just in a half, especially in food? Very good! So who among you can
tell me the way of representing division of a whole into parts? The one who will get the
correct answer will have a chocolate from me, so quick answering to have it. After
knowing the meaning, we will go to one of its sub topic and it is adding fractions.
II. Discussion
What is Fraction?
Fraction is a way of representing division of a whole into parts. The top number
of a fraction is called its numerator and the bottom part is its denominator.
numerator number of shaded parts
denominator number of equal parts

Adding Fractions
In adding similar fractions- fractions with the same denominators, add the
numerator and write the common denominator. Reduce the answer in lowest term if
needed.
Example:

or

In adding dissimilar fractions- fractions with different denominators, first find the
least common denominator (LCD) by getting the least common multiple of the
denominator.

4 = 2 2 or See what multiples of them are common.

8 = 2 4 4 8 12
= 2 4 8 16 24
LCD = 8 LCD = 8
Second divide the LCD by the denominator then multiply the quotient with the
numerator to become similar fractions.

Last find the sum and write the final answer in lowest term if needed.

The other way of adding fractions is cross multiplication method. Get the cross
product of the fractions and multiply the denominators as common denominator.
Reduce the answer in lowest term if needed.

Other example:
1.

2.

3. 3

+ 4

= 3

+ 4

= 7

or 8

4. 10

+ 4

= 10

+ 4

= 14

III. Evaluation
For our activity today, I will give a fraction written in the bond paper to ten
students. On the board there are ten equations with a missing part, so the ten students
will think and look for the right equation his/her fraction belongs and for the other
students, each of them will discuss one equation or correct their classmates answer if it
is wrong.
Homework/Assignment. Answer the following:
1.)

2.)

3.) 5

+ 9

4.) 7

+ 3

5.) 6

+ 2
