Eric Baugh, Villa Madonna:
The junior won the 1,600
meters in the Class A state
meet in a time of 4:22.82,
which was the fastest of any
area runner in any class, won
the 800 meters in the Class A
state meet in an area-best
time of 1:58.12 and finished
ninth in the 3,200 meters in
the Class A state meet.

SHOT PUT
Branden Johnson, Dixie Heights:
The junior finished third in the Class
3A state meet with a toss of 51 feet, 11
inches, which was a little over five
inches farther than any other local
competitor in any class.
DISCUS
Kameron Crim, Scott: The senior
finished as runner-up in the Class 2A
state meet with an area-best toss of
144-3.
LONG JUMP
Drew Berkemeyer, Bishop Bros-
sart: The senior finished fourth in the
Class A state meet with a jump of

Logan Winkler, Simon Kenton: The
junior placed 13th in the Class 3A
state meet with an area-best jump of
41-11.
HIGH JUMP
Matt Isbel, Dixie Heights, and Lo-
gan Winkler, Simon Kenton: Isbel, a
junior, finished fifth in the Class 3A
state meet with a jump of 6-2, while
Winkler, a junior, finished seventh in
the Class 3A state meet with a jump of
6-2 but had one miss.
POLE VAULT
Andrew Beiersdorfer, Covington
Catholic: The junior placed 11th in
the Class 2A state meet with an area-
best vault of 11-6.
4x800 RELAY
Cooper: The team of junior Zachary
Stewart, junior Jake Vandenmosten,
junior Mitchell Geenhalgh and senior
Aaron Kelter finished fourth in the
Class 3A state meet in a time of
8:05.96, which was almost 12 seconds
faster than any area team in any
class.
110 METER HURDLES
Jashawn Stanley, Newport: The
senior finished third in the Class A
state meet in an area-best time of
15.78 seconds.
100 METER DASH
Jake Erpenbeck, Covington Catho-
lic: The junior won the Class 2A state
meet in an area-best time of 10.93
seconds.
4x200 RELAY
Walton-Verona: The team of senior
Jon Jones, sophomore Colin Crook,
sophomore Noah Richardson and
junior Scott Smith finished second in
the Class A state meet in an area-best
time of 1:31.66.

junior Logan McDowell, junior Jake

ond in the Class 2A state meet in an

Barry Ordu, Boone County: The
senior finished seventh in the Class
3A state meet in an area-best time of
50.86 seconds.
300 METER HURDLES
Brent Johnson, Simon Kenton: The
senior finished as runner-up in the
Class 3A state meet in an area-best
time of 39.06 seconds.

Alex Veneman, Highlands, and
Jake Erpenbeck, Covington Catho-
lic: In perhaps the best event of the
Class 2A state meet, Veneman beat
Erpenbeck by 0.01 seconds (21.99 to
22.00) to win the Class 2A state meet.
3200 METER RUN
Zachary Stewart, Cooper, and Eth-
an Shuley, Highlands: Stewart, a
junior, finished fourth in the Class 3A
state meet in an area-best time of
9:29.90, while Shuley, a sophomore,
won the Class 2A state meet in a time
of 9:30.18.
4x400 RELAY
Highlands and Walton-Verona: The
Highlands team of junior Devin Du-
pont, freshman Jared Pulsfort, junior
Alex Veneman and senior John Mi-
chael Griffith finished third in the
Class 2A state meet in an area-best
time of 3:28.50, while the Walton-
Verona team of senior Jon Jones,
junior Corbin Flege, sophomore Noah
Richardson and junior Nicholas John-
ston won the Class A state meet in a
time of 3:28.51.

SHOT PUT
Michael Slusher, Lloyd: The senior
finished third in the Class A state
meet with a throw of 46-4

Grant Vercheck, Simon Kenton,
and Dominick Joseph, Newport:
Vercheck, a junior, placed sixth in the
Class 3A state meet with a toss of
140-3, while Joseph, a junior, was third
in the Class A state meet with a throw
of 139-9.
LONG JUMP
Isaiah Evans, Simon Kenton, Clark
Crook, Walton-Verona, Scott Smith,
Walton-Verona: The trio was separat-
ed by just one inch in their jumps.
Evans placed 12th in the Class 3A
state meet with a jump of 19-10, while
Crook placed sixth in the Class A state
meet with a jump of 19-9

Freddie Vickers, Holmes, and Ja-
red Pulsfort, Highlands: Vickers, a
junior, placed seventh in the Class 2A
state meet with a jump of 6-0, while
Pulsfort, a freshman, was ninth with a
jump of 6-0.
POLE VAULT
Nick Hardt, Newport Central
Catholic, Dylan Withers, Lloyd,
Frank Cetrulo, Bishop Brossart,
Nick Staub, St. Henry: All four
jumped 11-0 at the state meet, with
Hardt, a senior, finishing fifth; With-
ers, a senior, sixth; Cetrulo, a sopho-
more, seventh; and Staub, a junior,
eighth.
4 x 800 RELAY
Bishop Brossart and Highlands:
The teams won their respective state
championships and were separated by
just 0.23 seconds. The Brossart team
of junior Chris Loos, freshman Cody
Chism, junior Ronny Smith and senior
Michael Caldwell won the Class A
title in a time of 8:17.17, while the
Highlands team of sophomore Will
Backscheider, sophomore Matthew
Gray, sophomore Ethan Shuley and
senior John Michael Griffith won the
Class 2A title in a time of 8:17.40.
110 METER HURDLES
Miles Payne, Dixie Heights: The
junior finished 16th in the Class 3A
state meet in a time of 15.89 seconds.
100 METER DASH
Alex Veneman, Highlands: The
junior finished second in the Class 2A
state meet in a time of 11.07 seconds.
4x200 RELAY
Covington Catholic and Ryle: The
teams finished just 0.04 seconds apart
in their respective classes at the state
meet. CovCath junior Logan McDow-
ell, junior Jake Erpenbeck, freshman
Jordan Tuemler and junior Lee Mc-
Clure finished fourth in the Class 2A
meet in a time of 1:32.10. The Ryle
team of senior Ryan Hill, sophomore
Mitchell Bateman, junior Grant Smith
and senior Nathan Winegardner fin-
ished eighth in the Class 3A meet in a
time of 1:32.14.
1600 METER RUN
Ethan Shuley, Highlands, and Mi-
chael Caldwell, Bishop Brossart:
Shuley, a sophomore, finished as run-
ner-up in the Class 2A state meet in a
time of 4:24.05, while Caldwell, a sen-
ior, finished as runner-up in the Class
A state meet in a time of 4:28.02.
4x100 RELAY
Simon Kenton: The team of sopho-
more Ben Mulberry, sophomore Dil-
lon Powell, freshman Dylan Hampton
and junior Logan Winkler finished
16th in the Class 3A state meet in a
time of 44.64 seconds.
400 METER DASH
Caleb Watson, Cooper: The sopho-
more finished 10th in the Class 3A
state meet in a time of 51.02 seconds.
300 METER HURDLES
Jacob Brett, Newport: The senior
finished as runner-up in the Class A
state meet in a time of 41.12 seconds.
800 METER RUN
Michael Caldwell, Bishop Bros-
sart, and Akram Abdulle, Boone
County: Caldwell, a senior, finished
as runner-up in the Class A state meet
in a time of 1:59.86, while Abdulle
finished 11th in the Class 3A state
meet in a time of 1:59.88.
200 METER DASH
Matt Johnson, Scott: The senior fin-
ished fourth in the Class 2A state
meet in a time of 22.53 seconds.
3200 METER RUN
Mark Chaplin, Campbell County:
The junior finished ninth in the Class
3A state meet in a time of 9:38.16.
4 X 400 RELAY
Boone County: Junior Akram Ab-
dulle, senior Barry Ordu, sophomore
Donald Brumley and junior Matthew
Koons finished 16th in the Class 3A
state meet in 3:32.27.

and Jesse Herbst, Simon
Kenton: Leopold, left, led
Highlands to its first state
championship since 1959
when it won the Class 2A
title; Herbst led Simon Ken-
ton to its first regional title
since 1965 when it won the
Class 3A, Region 5 meet.
