EGYPT

Egypt is officially recognized as the Arab Republic of Egypt. It is a transcontinental country, is located both in the northeast corner of Africa and Asia. In Egypt is the Suez Canal, which
connects the Mediterranean Sea with the Red, and separates the main part of Egyptian territory of the Sinai Peninsula, which borders with Israel.

HIDROGRAPHY


The Nile River is the second worldwide in length,
6,497 km long, after the Amazon (6,800 km) river.
Its course through Egypt is 1,550 miles, and the
Nile Delta area has 24,000 km .

The desert climate in most of the territory, with low rainfall. Egypt is famous for its ancient civilization and monuments, like the pyramids and the Great Sphinx.

Its present form of government is the semi-presidential republic under interim government.

FLORA AND FAUNA

The vegetation of Egypt is limited to
the area of the Delta, the Nile Valley
and desert oases. The most
widespread is the coconut tree.


ECONOMY

Egypt is predominantly an agricultural country; and one of the most important crops are
cotton, the labor force is engaged in farming or ranching activities.

THE SUEZ CANAL



The Suez Canal is an artificial waterway capital strategic and economic importance. The
canal, excavated in the mid-nineteenth century and with a length of 163 km, linking the Red
Sea with the Mediterranean sea and the ships avoids the circumnavigation of Africa.

TOURISM

Tourism is a major source of foreign currency for Egypt. In and around Cairo: the pyramids
of Giza with the Great Sphinx (outside the city) are the main attractions, complemented with
the treasures of the Cairo museum displaying the treasure of Tutankhamun, and the bazaar
Khan el-Khalili (Khan el Khalili).

LANGUAGE: The official language is Arabic.

RELIGION: The official religion in Egypt is Sunni Islam.

MUSIC: Music has been part of Egyptian life since ancient times. Among the various
instruments, the sistrum are known, the menat.

TREATS: As for its typical food there is a range of cold starters from the East, among which
are:

KOSHARI: Overlapping layers of macaroni, rice and tomato sauce lentils.
FUL MEDAMES: Served with egg slices and baked beans.



The typical Egyptian beverages are: karkade comes from the hibiscus flower and can be
enjoyed hot or cold; shai, strong black tea flavor and the variety known as shai nana, served
with mint leaves.

FOLCLOR: Egyptian folk dances are varied and very rich, and come from different regions.
Folklore is the source that feeds the oriental dance. From it came the steps, rhythms, music,
costumes. By region we find different types of folk dances. Some of them are: Fallahi,
Saidi, Hagalla, Melaia. Nubio,

TYPICAL ATTIRE: In the past, Egyptian costumes were very basic, usually white and made
from cotton and linen. Most people use a dress type suit, which is named after Chilava, is
large and colorful, usually the neck is round and under wear trousers.
