Context
21st Century Learning Solutions, Inc. is an instructional design company located in Oviedo,
Florida. 21CLS works with clients in developing online courses and training for higher
education, government and industry training programs. Their attitude about instructional design
is one of flexibility, problem solving and cutting-edge technological innovations. One of their
goals is to generate instructional products to align with the specific requests of the client.
The staff at 21st Century Learning Solutions, Inc. is made up of specialists who have obtained
their PhD inthe field of instructional design. They areexperts inthe field who work very hard to
ensure that the delivery of online content and integrated technology is effective and meets the
objectives of the client's needs. The media used in the creation of instructional content is
designed and selected to meet the growing need of today' s learner and their unique learning
styles. The result is an efficient and quality product that .canbe used to further the training and
education of the intended audience.
The three main areas of focus at 21CLS are asfollows:
Course/Training Development - "design and implement eLearning products that educate,
inspire, and satisfy both students and instructors."
Quality Assurance - "seeks to provide users with quality learning experiences that 'make
sense' ."
Media Development - "creating attractive and effective multimedia projects."
During my internship, I will beworking closely with course developers and instructional
designers who will lead methrough avariety of engaging activities and projects that will result
inmy acquiring valuable tools that I may addto my educational experience, Dr. Vicki Rath,
president and CEO of21 CLS, will bematching me with the appropriate personnel to ensure
success in my internship requirement. I amlooking forward to this amazing experience.
Learning Goals and Objectives
During my internship, I will further develop and glean additional knowledge and skills in
instructional technology by doing the following:
Work directly with an experienced Course DeveloperlInstructional Designer on specific
projects.
Provide support to Course Developer/Instructional Designer by helping with building
course content.
Develop learning activities while building course content.
Verify alignment of course content with learning objectives.
Review media to determine its appropriateness for course content.
Find resources and instructional media to enhance course content.
Write narratives to include in course content.
Support the needs of the Course DeveloperlInstructional Designer in avariety of assigned
projects.
Responsibilities and Tasks
To enable meto meet my learning goals and objectives, I will take part in the following
responsibilities and tasks:
Develop learning activities
Take part in avariety of ongoing projects
Verify alignment of assessment materials
Review media appropriate for course content
Write narratives as assigned
Edit/proof documents for content and mechanics
Work on-site and remotely to complete assigned projects
During my time at 21CLS, I will be focusing on furthering my knowledge incourse development
and building course content. I will gain additional skills that will help me to learn and grow in
the field of instructional design. I will also assist inassessment verification to ensure that test
questions arein alignment with the learning outcomes. I will be given opportunities to review
media and distinguish the appropriateness of said media for course content. I will operate in a
supporting role to the course developer/instructional designer and will avail myself to whatever
current project that my supervisor deems appropriate for my ongoing educational growth and
development.
I will betraveling to Oviedo frommy home in Ocala each week, and will be allowed to split my
time between the onsite location and online at home. Therefore, my hours will be accomplished
through both onsite and remote activities. I will be in constant and direct contact with my
supervisor/mentor, via Yahoo Messenger, where collaboration and communication will occur on
aregular basis.
Deliverables
To demonstrate that I have achieved my learning goals and objectives, I will submit the
following for my internship portfolio:
3-10 pagejournal entries reflecting oninternship experience
Description of how deliverables demonstrate that I achieved my objectives
Documentation of content, learning activities, and assessment items created during my
internship
Screenshots and/or documents showing content created and work achieved during my
internship
E-portfolio which includes samples of various completed projects and vitae
Schedule and Milestones
I will be assisting in course development, objective alignment, and verification processes, as well
as avariety of project tasks during the summer of2014, and will offer 160 hours of service
(about 20hours per week). Following is the projected schedule and timeline of completed
projects. Below is adeveloping list of my planned work schedule and target dates for submitting
primary deliverables to 21st Century Learning Solutions. The goal isto become involved in a
number of areas and tasks at 21st Century Learning Solutions in order to gain awealth of
knowledge in avariety of skills; therefore, this list will berevised and updated over time asto
create amore specific schedule of events:
Pre-planning - May 5, 2014
Meet with Dr. Rath by phone to discuss internship opportunity.
Accept internship at 21st Century Learning Solutions.
Set goals and objectives as referenced above.
Week 1-2 (May 12- May 23, 2014)
Complete practicum contract/proposal with the assistance of Dr. Rath.
Communicate viae-mail to Dr. Rath at 21CLS.
Submit practicum contract/proposal to Dr. Gunter by 5/21114.
Weeks 3-4 (May 26 - J une 6, 2014)
Meet with course developer/instructional designer to discuss plans and projects for the
semester.
Begin reviewing project objectives and working on assigned projects.
Weeks 5-6 (J une 9- J une 20,2014)
Meet with course developer/instructional designer to discuss course development project.
Work on course development project.
Review and select appropriate media for course development project.
Weeks 7-8 (J une 23 - J uly 4,2014)
Meet with course developer/instructional designer to discuss assessment alignment
project.
Work on assessment alignment project.
Weeks 9- 10(J uly 7 - J uly 18,2014)
Write 3-10 pagejournal reflection and submit to Dr. Gunter at UCF
Submit deliverables to Dr. Gunter at UCF
Have course developer / mentor write an evaluation of my internship experience that I
will submit to Dr. Gunter at UCF
