UNIONDALE, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) A recent scientific finding is getting plenty of people talking.
There appears to be an explanation to why women talk more than men.
In the battle of the sexes, when it comes to who talks more, theres one clear winner. Any
hairdresser can tell you the answer is women, but now theres scientific proof to back it up, CBS
2s Carolyn Gusoff reported Friday.
Women do talk more than men a lot more.
According to a new study by the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the average woman
speaks about 20,000 words a day. The average man, meanwhile, speaks a mere 7,000 words.
The study credits about 30 percent more of a so-called language protein in the brains of women.

Thats just the nature of the beast women love to talk, Nick Varrino said.
Women that talked to CBS 2 said theyre just better communicators and have more to say.
I think we can talk longer than men. I think we can have longer conversations than men, one
woman said.
Men have a different take on the talk debate.
They have more opinions and theyre more opinionated. I just sit and listen. I dont talk back, one
man said.
Its no joke.
Hofstra University marriage therapist Teresa Grella-Hillebrand said chatty spouses are often the
source of marital strife. A scientific explanation could help men better understand women.
