GUIDELINES FOR
SUMMER TRAINING
(MBA)

As a part of curriculum you are required to undergo Summer Training for 50 days in an
industrial commercial organization commencing after the end of University examinations. The
objective of this project work is to familiarize the students with the practical aspects of business
organization and for shaping them as competent managers for tomorrow. The basic idea of
summer training is to work on some real problems of company and to do research work on it.

There are two kinds of projects

1- Research Based Project

For research based projects you are suppose to work on any problem related to Finance,
Marketing & Sales, HR, General management issues etc. You are supposed to discuss these
problems with their industrial mentor and read literature for same to understand the issues,
research gap and then choose the topic. A suggested list of few topics is given below:

I) Finance

The financial problems faced by the Company.
Portfolio management.
"Stock preferences of customers of Company dealing in stock market.
Impact of Mergers & Acquisitions on performance of the Companies
Impact of Budget on companys performance.
Credit appraisal for working capital and term loan financing.
Impact of technology in financial management.
Financial and tax planning.
Investment avenues available to the customers & their return.

II) Human Resource Management

Study of job satisfaction in industrial organization
Corporate Social Responsibility.
Training need evaluation
Impact of training on sales performance
Recruitment & selection policy and its evaluation
Study of attrition in the company.
Consumer behavior
Performance Appraisal Systems
Customer Satisfaction survey of company xyz.


III) Marketing management
Study of different marketing channels & their impact on sales.
Customer Relations Management.
Impact of advertisement on sales of the product.
Customer experience management
Marketing Analysis of company

Comparative Analysis of company with competitor through customer
Mapping and Price Mapping
Impact of marketing strategies on consumers buying intention.



IV) General Management topics

Role of Leadership and Strategy in companys performance.
Managing transition from entrepreneurial firms to professional firms
Corporate Governance
Business intelligence and knowledge management
Manufacturing strategies for competitive advantage
TQM
Comparative study of products of the company with competitor


All the above such topics should be approved by the concerned faculty guides before starting the
work. The students will have to collect the data relevant to their topic or problem, and analyze
the same with statistical tools, make intelligent observations and offer some practical
suggestions.


2-On the Job Training


Sometimes companies do not give survey or research based problem project and ask the
students to work on the job. For example a bank may ask to sell saving and current a/c ,
financial products etc, A real estate company may ask to sell residential and commercial
properties , a stock broking firm may ask for selling d-mat and trading a/c


Note: Format for these two types of project has been enclosed.

General Instructions:

The Summer Training Project provides an excellent opportunity to all students to have a first
hand experience and exposure in the working of an Industry. This way, they get to know the
actual applications of all theoretical concepts in real life situation. Therefore, all students should
avail this opportunity to complete the summer training diligently and sincerely and without any
irregularity. The following instructions are conveyed to them for their guidance during summer
training.
1. Complete the summer training work sincerely and without any irregularity.
2. Join the company as early as possible and see that you are spending minimum 50
days in the organization.
3. There are four kinds of reports i.e summer training joining report and company
profile, Mentors feedback form and self evaluation form . There are marks assigned
for each report @5 marks (A Total of 20 marks is reserved for four page
reports).You have to send summer training joining report and company profile
format form duly signed by the corporate mentor (within seven days from the date of
joining the organization) to CRC only. Rest two reports i.e Mentors feedback form
and self evaluation form have to be submitted at the end of summer training . Reports
submitted to any faculty members will not be entertained and liable for deduction of
marks.
4 When two or more students are placed in the same organization, see to it that there is
no duplication of work. This can be done by taking up different project title in the
same area or different functional areas like Marketing, HRM and Finance etc.
5. During the summer training, all students should present themselves in the proper
dress code. No student should go to their organization in casual wear like T-shirts,
Jeans etc. Also, you should keep your Identity Cards along with you throughout your
stay with the organization.
6. Discuss the progress of your project work with your Corporate Mentor during the
training period and the faculty guide and write the minutes of the discussion.


All students are required to submit their project report in the prescribed University format
as per the Samples attached herewith. Any Deviation from this list will not be accepted.

The final draft of the project will be prepared under the guidance of Faculty. Students
should take care that all information relating to study must be available while finalizing
the report. In case of any difficulty, students are advised to contact concerned internal
faculty guide through E-mail or on phone whichever is possible.

The students should report for regular classes in the new academic session on the date
which will be communicated to you .

Chapter 1: Introduction
The purpose of introduction is to introduce the research project to the readers. It should contain
history of the company, industry , past and current practices, new technology, enough
background should be given to make clear to the reader why the problem was considered worth
investigating. A brief summary of other relevant research may also be stated so that the present
study can be seen in that context. The hypotheses of study, if any, and the definitions of the
major concepts employed in the study should be explicitly stated in the introduction of the report.
In this chapter followings minimum contents should be covered.
Overview of industry as a whole
Problems of the Industry (Growth of Industry, Players in Industry, size, contribution
in GDP, Total employees ,global practices, etc)
Profile of the company (History, Vision , Mission, Objectives , Functions etc)
Statistical facts and information
Competition information
SWOT analysis of the organization

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRINTING FORMAT

1. A chapter may be further divided into several divisions and sub-divisions depending on
type & volume of work.

2. The maximum length of the report may be about 100 pages for research based project
and 60 pages for on the job training.
3. The training report shall be computer typed (English- British, Font -Times Roman,
Size-12 point) and printed on A4 size paper.
4. The training report shall be spiral bound with cover page. The name of the students,
degree, duration of training period, name of the university including institute name
shall be printed in black letters on the cover page.
5. The report shall be typed with 1.5 line spacing with a margin 3.0 cm on the left, 2.5 cm
on the top, and 1.25 cm on the right and at bottom. Every page in the report must be
numbered. The page numbering, starting from acknowledgements and till the beginning
of the introductory chapter, should be printed in small Roman numbers, i.e, i, ii, iii,
iv...... The page number of the first page of each chapter should not be printed (but
must be accounted for). All page numbers from the second page of each chapter should
be printed using Arabic numerals, i.e. 2,3,4,5... All printed page numbers should be
located at the bottom centre of the page.
6. In the training report, the title page should be given first and printed in black letters.
7. The table of contents should list all headings and sub-headings. The title page and
certificates will not find a place among the items listed in the Table of Contents. One
and a half line spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this head.
8. The list of tables should use exactly the same captions as they appear above the tables
in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under this
head.
9. The list of figures should use exactly the same captions as they appear below the
figures in the text. One and a half spacing should be adopted for typing the matter under
this head.
10. The list of symbols, abbreviation & nomenclature should be typed with one and a half
line spacing. Standard symbols, abbreviation etc should be used.
11. All the pages must be numbered properly.
