AHMEDABAD AGAINST TOBACCO !!

A man next to you reaches into his pocket and pulls out a gun. He
looks around, first at you, then into his lap while his hand slowly goes
up as he brings the gun closer to his face. Bang, thats it! Its over, the
act has been done!
Would you let it happen? Would you be willing to sit silently and let
him kill himself? After all, he is someones son, brother, husband,
father. No, you would intervene, attempt to take the gun away from
him, try to stop him from committing murder. Why? Because killing
oneself is wrong. An act against nature, an act against God.
But we let this happen every day; in our drawing rooms, in the
restaurants, at the bus stops. We let people kill themselves, slowly,
very slowly. Only this time, the weapon is much smaller and socially
acceptable. It is a cigarette.
Smoking kills. Period!


Being upcoming professionals who are closely entwined to the science
and sociality of this evil, it becomes your professional and moral duty
to help eliminate this monster and help the victims of the same.
Keeping in view of this situation, we at ADC aim to motivate and urge
you to be a part of this noble cause to make our city free of tobacco
and its citizens enriched with the knowledge against it.
Last year, we at ADC started this mini revolution through humble
beginnings and this year, we intend to make this mini revolution into
a mass revolution. As the McDowells ad says, MAKE IT LARGE!!!
So, we the team ADC, under the awesome guidance of the visionary
and our mentor and dean Dr. Mihir sir, bring you this year a new and
rejuvenated endeavor to act against the tobacco consumption in
Ahmedabad i.e. try and make Ahmedabad Indias 2

city.
Before we jump into this years wagon, let us revisit the last years
super-exciting events and have a glimpse of them.
The last years event consisted of 2 days i.e. 30

and 31

May that is
the World No Tobacco Day. The last years theme was Ban tobacco
advertising, promotion and sponsorship and this year, the idea has
been set to Raise taxes on tobacco to reduce its consumption.

Cutting the blabber short, last year, on 30
th
may, a huge press event
was held by the associate organizations and included ideations by
various imminent doctors and visionaries of Ahmedabad. The event
was covered by 6 leading dailies of Ahmedabad and also by the cool RJ
Dhvanit of Radio Mirchi.

May saw a lecture session by Dr. Mrugesh Vaishnav, Dr. Rajendra
Toprani, Mr. Shyam Shelat and Dr. Sandip Ladani providing
information on medical, social and economic aspects of the tobacco
problem.
The second phase of the campaign included a ROAD SHOW
participated by hundreds of students of ADC and other institutes
outside Gandhi Ashram with huge CIGARETTE MODEL with messages
written over it and balloons with quit tobacco signs, hundreds taking
no tobacco pledge conducted by RJ DHVANIT (Special Guest for the
day).
The road show was also supported by the local police body with many
high ranked police officials participating and encouraging the good
cause.
So we gear up again this year for a bigger movement by the Doctors on
31st May 2014. The day would intend to draw the attention of the
people of Ahmedabad City to the widespread prevalence of tobacco
use and its negative health effects.
This year, HCG CANCER CENTRE, AHMEDABAD DENTAL COLLEGE,
AHMEDABAD CITY POLICE & M-POWER CRICKET ACADEMY, BAR
COUNCIL OF INDIA, CHIEF JUSTICE OF GUJARAT AND VARIOUS
RELIGIOUS LEADERS join hands to organize a great show that
interests the youth of Ahmedabad city for a No Tobacco drive.
And we have lots of innovative and empowering ideas this year that
includes.
An Anti-tobacco jingle thats made on the catchy tune of bhai-bhai
which has been made exclusively by our students to be sung at
various open-air rallies and street plays.
Street plays that will be held at various parts of the city and beyond in
the open-air trolley with boom-boxes and huge fan-fare!!
A surprise Flash Mob at the uber-cool Alpha One mall to entertain
Ahmedabad and make this the best and the largest flash mob that the
city has seen.
Special training sessions for the same by Amish Shah of the Boogie
Woogie fame.
The day shall end on a relaxing but a hilarious note as we will be
witnessing a fun filled charity drama by none other than Siddharth
Randeria.


This event of epic proportions can only be made possible if we can get
fresh and energetic young spirits like you be a part of this fest. So we
invite you to join hands and lend your energy and inputs as a
participant for the flash mob, street plays or even as an event-
management crew.
Not the first question that might be popping in your minds will be. Iss
se hume kya milega??!!
Well, I shall tell you that you will get to interact socially more with
people you have talked less to or never talked to, learn how practical
event management works and how to handle people, expand your
network, get to know your seniors, grab the attention of your staff,
have a spot in limelight and once again NETWORK!!
But more importantly, a good chance to come in Deans honor list !!!
Bhai, yeh deans honor list kya nayi cheez hai? Well, this is the list of
elite students that will be prepared by the faculty after they observe
you for your eloquence and a spirit to stay ahead in curricular and
extra-curricular activities that happen year long! Mind you, you are
being noticed by them!
The perks you ask?? They are.

noble event a huge success and set you apart from the boring students
of other dental schools of this city!
