City Press seeks a digital editor to oversee City
Press online. This role is at the level of a news editor.
Key responsibilities
. To run City Press online and our digital news operation
. To enhance engagement with readers from Sunday to Sunday
. To develop a competitive video and mobile offering
. To build a truly national online news agenda
. To build beautiful journalism that runs across the Sunday and digital editions
Ideal profile
. Team player and creative thinker
. Social-media guru
. Keen news sense nothing mundane will do
. Working knowledge of media law and ethics
. General news knowledge
. Ability to work to tight deadlines without losing your cool
. Be prepared for unusual hours though we will keep them to a minimum
. More than five years experience in digital media

JUSTICE
WRITER
Key responsibilities
. Reporting on justice and legal matters, from the magistracy to the judiciary and
the Constitutional Court
. Writing on the selection of judges, reporting on important Constitutional Court
and Supreme Court of Appeal matters, writing exclusive stories about the workings
of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), and other exclusive stories from
matters on criminal and civil court rolls
. Providing coverage on long-running cases
. Reporting on matters involving the legal profession
Ideal profile
. Deep knowledge of the workings of the judiciary, from magistrates courts to the
Constitutional Court and an extensive network of contacts therein
. Extensive knowledge of the inner workings of the NPA and sources therein
. Contacts within records rooms at key superior courts
. An extensive contact network within the legal and advocacy fraternity
. More than five years experience in mainstream journalism

Key responsibilities
. Reporting on culture news around the country, including investigative news
stories
. Knowing what is trending and reporting on it
. Attending events
. Understanding how to use social media, print and digital to create content across
platforms
. Ability to write fast under deadline pressures
Ideal profile
. Versatility to leap from hard news, to music, to film, to food and into online
shopping
. A strong knowledge of how to bridge the gap between print and digital
. Contacts across the culture spectrum to get the news before its in the news
