How many letters can my Magic Beamers system name (service name) display on
regular mobile phones to the user once the communication via Bluetooth starts?

You can normally display up to 250 letters or digits. This can also be used as a possibility to
intergrate marketing messages or advertising slogans. The user will see this, without having
to answer, which means the user can also receive it from unusually far distances.

However, if the end user must be able to answer (for example to download a file), then the
user must be within a much closer area. Most mobiles only have Bluetooth Class 3 or Class
2, which means a maximum distance of approx. 30meters/100feet is necessary to send
messages back and forth.

You can send long text messages to all users within the maximum Bluetooth range of your
system. All Magic Beamers come configured with Class 1 dongles (approx. range
120meters/400feet). If you need more than 400feet please ask (up to 4,000 m; 4km).

Please read our FAQ for more information (at the end of the manual).

Using several Magic Beamers or Bluetooth dongles simultaneously

(In case you do NOT have an Enterprise version)

If you are planning to use several Magic Beamers simultaneously in the same location please
read this:

If you would like to use several Magic Beamers at the same time (for example during an
exhibition) you have to exclude all other dongles from the receivers list of the other dongles.

Without doing so your Magic Beamers will create a loop and send themselves messages
back and forth (red line):

If you do not own an Enterprise Version, all other dongles must be entered by hand. For
further instruction on how to do this, please go to: 3. Exclude & Include (Phones and Files
and Bluetooth Dongles)

Under „object to send“ either enter a file or a directory with .select. If you enter a directory or
folder, a randomly chosen file from that directory will be sent.

A “ . “ (full stop) means that a random selection is taken from the actual directory. If however
a certain directory is shown, it will look like this:

In this example “images” would be the directory from which the files will be sent randomly.
Everything always refers to the download directory.

If you select the folder “image”, the system will send randomly all files contained in the folder
“image”. In this case those files would be: “cake.jpg”, “hamburger.jpg” and “kirche.jpg”

In the two fields

“Scaninterval” and
“Hold-Off-Time”

you can choose the frequency your MagicBeamer will send files to your customers. The
lower you set the “hold-off time”, the more messages will be sent to the same customer in a
short period of time.

We recommend that if you are sending files from a folder that contains several messages,
you set this parameter very low.

Example: Choose Scan Interval:0 and Hold-off time:1 to send a file every minute to every
phone.

D. Set Time and Date

Please first adjust the date on the MagicBeamer !

The MagicBeamer uses GMT as the internal time which was set by the Master Server during
the installation. After that the time is not synchronized anymore which might lead to small
time differences after a longer time period. At the moment the german timezone is
programmed, however this switches automatically between summer and winter time.

To change the systemtime please follow the instructions:

Connect a keyboard and a monitor directly to the MagicBeamer. Please note: For the
MagicBeamer Black Version a USB keyboard is necessary.

Now press ALT+F1, you will then see the cclinx login. Please enter

„root“

(without quotation marks) and press return. As a password please use

„checkcom“

You are now logged in and are able to see the last digits of the IP address of the
clients/servers. For example: root@dhcp-1-253#

Type in

„date“

to take a look at the momentary settings, eg: Mon Aug 7 09:44:02 MEST 2006

To set a new time please enter he following and then press return:

Date –s ’2006-12-24 20:15’

(Information: apostrophe with CAPS+#)

Now check again with

„date“

whether the setting now is correct.

The settings now have to be transferred to the hardware clock (the time that counts at the
moment). To do that type in the following and press return after each line:

Hwclock –w

And then

Hwclock --systohc

ATTENTION: before systohc there are 2 (two) minussymbols!! ((systohc) system time to
hardware clock)

Now check the hardware clock settings with

Hwclock --show

(ATTENTION: again 2 minussymbols before „show“!!)

To finally switch back to the cclinux main menu please press ALT+F2

More examples for the structure of a select file with sequence function:

In this example file1 will be sent first, then file12, file3 etc. After 12 hours the sending will
begin again, starting with file 1.

If you choose a file by hand and the rule still applies, the file will later on not be included
routine fort he time of 12 hours (recovery time).

Important: Instead of files you can also indicate directories:

Then objects will be chosen from the list in alphabetical order (case sensitive)

One after the other the files sent in the last 12 hours will be dropped. Then the system will
send the first message that was left over.

With this method any arbitrary rule can be created because a .select file can exist in
directory1.

J. How can I (as a user) request files by Bluetooth?

This function is also known as “2 Way messaging”.

Just create a new phonebook entry and instead of entering a person’s name, enter the name
of the file that you would like to request.

All other entries, for example phone numbers, email addresses can be left empty. All the
Magic Beamer needs is the name of the file in the “name” field of the phonebook entry. (If you
do not know how to create a new phonebook entry, please consult your mobile phone
manual.)

Afterwards send that phonebook entry to the MagicBeamer via Bluetooth. Within seconds
you will receive a message from the MagicBeamer which prompts you to confirm the
receiving of the requested file.

This is how you can use the files which have been delivered with the original MagicBeamer.
Please create a new entry in your phone with the name “kirche”. Afterwards, please send it
via Bluetooth to the MagicBeamer (Search for devices and select the MagicBeamer among
the devices you see). You will immediately receive the picture “kirche.jpg”

You can also define a default file to be sent in case someone sends a wrong or invalid
request to the MagicBeamer. This default file could be a text file, a picture or your company
logo.

K. How can I (as a user) upload files by Bluetooth and forward them by email?

This function is also known as “Upload & Send”. You can forward any file stored in your
phone to the email ID you define. You could send pictures, contacts, calendar entries, etc.
You could even create a contest for your customers and give a prize to the best picture or the
most creative picture you receive in your email account.

Select the file on your mobile phone. Send the file to the MagicBeamer by Bluetooth (in the
example it’s “beach.vcf”). After this is done, the file is now in your “Obex Inbox”.

This file will now be forwarded if you have previously set an email forwarder. This email
forwarder can be configured as described in the help file.

Create a new phonebook entry with an email address and “sendmail” as a keyword (this is for
the Silver Version 1.3 only) and send it to the MagicBeamer:

„Bluetooth Manager“ Menu and then to „ OBEX object push“:

At this point, you will be at a page where you can enter the sender address (which the
recipient of the emails will see) and an email address to which all outside requests from users
will be forwarded as a copy.

Important: Please do not forget to enter the SMTP server location!

The MagicBeamer will recognize the email address inside a vCard automatically.

For example:
-User creates a new contact on his/her mobile phone
-On the “email” field, type the email ID where you want the files to be sent.
(name@yourdomain.com)

When you send that phonebook entry to the MagicBeamer, the MagicBeamer now will
automatically forward all future responses (any text, program, movie or any other file) to
requests to that email address. The email address will be saved on the MagicBeamer in the
file “mailto.db”.

3. Exclude & Include (Phones and Files and Bluetooth Dongles)

How to exclude devices & mobile phones & Bluetooth dongles

To exclude certain devices or mobile phones from receiving any content (..SPAM) please go
to „OBEX Auto Inquiry Configuration.“ In this menu you will find the item „Include/exclude
remote devices“. This submenu enables you to target certain devices or mobile phones, user
groups or even certain models (brands, groups within a brand) and exclude them from
receiving content. Furthermore you can also use this function to include groups or devices.

For instance: -00:01:E3:*, would exclude all mobile phones from Siemens. After this setting
has been executed, no Siemens mobiles will receive content from the MagicBeamer. You can
reset this option at any time.

Please note that the „Include / Exclude List“ is always working from top to bottom. A MINUS
(-) means “Exclude device” and a PLUS (+) means “Include device”:

Caution: If you are planning to use several MagicBeamers or Bluetooth dongles

simultaneously in the same location please read this!

If you would like to use several MagicBeamers and/or several dongles at the same time
(for example during a computer fair) you have to exclude all other dongles from the
receivers list of the other dongles.

Without doing so your MagicBeamers will create a loop and send themselves
messages back and forth. However, on a single MagicBeamer with 2 or more dongles,
the software will automatically recognize the other dongle.

How to send movies for different display sizes

Just like in the previous example you can also send movies and other files to certain mobile
phones.

At first, please create a new directory for your movie clips by – in this example – going into
the already existing menu and then clicking on “E” besides the file “.select”. This way you can
edit the “.select-file”. In this example we are typing ”../btdevvideo/.select “ into the field
FILENAME. This way we have created a new directory with the name of “btdevvideo”

The star “ * ” on the end stands for default. The file in this line will be sent to mobile phones
which are not in our database. Please make sure that there is an empty space between the
BD address and the file name.

Here you can see the 4 different video formats (3GP) for small, medium, large and PDA
screens. The proper file for each mobile phone is now available, depending on the size of the
display. In case you need more sizes, please create the files and connect them to the
corresponding mobile phone type. If you should encounter problems with movie conversion,
we also offer a conversion service.

To make sure that the movie or video is really connected to a certain type of mobile phone,
you still have to change the following table and create a connection between the file and the
mobile phone.

You can also change this file to accommodate country-specific settings and add any mobile
phone type.

Please make sure to save your changes.

4.2 What to do with defect clients (in combination with Enterprise versions)?

If a client is defect in such a way that he has to be created newly, for example software
troubles, then first determine his hardware address in order to localize the right client (IP
address).

Afterwards mark and delete the entry

http://192.168.1.50:8010/v,root/tools/files/boot/pxelinux.cfg/ .
The client then gets everything new, including the cached license.

In case the server is defect: set it up newly and then start the clients which will get everything
newly.

Always make sure that you backup your system every day

for the MagicBeamer is a one-time-price. The MagicBeamer will come as a ready-to-use

Do you rent or do you sell the MagicBeamer?

our units for a monthly fee and we do not take profit from you campaigns.

Do you offer workshops?

If you desire some help with the product or an extra training we will of course give

What is Bluetooth?

connections between digital devices, using short-range radio frequency.

What is a Magic Beamer?

With MagicBeamer you can transfer any information or advertisement to a mobile phone
or PDA. It's even possible to sell products or create prize games! And all that 24/7, all
year long and through walls and shopping windows. The transfer of the data is done with

Pro Version Manual

In which edition is the MagicBeamer available?

MagicBeamer black version (Professional Edition small) + one Bluetooth dongle (Reminder
Service, 2 way messaging, surfing, upload and send, campaign manager)
MagicBeamer blue version (Professional Edition big) + four Bluetooth dongles (reminder
service, 2 way messaging, surfing, upload and send, campaign manager, gives the
possibility to connect a hub unit, all dongles send out equivalent messages)
MagicBeamer silver version (Professional Edition Multi Clients) + four Bluetooth dongles
(reminder service, 2 way messaging, surfing, upload and send, campaign manager, many
dongles, each can send out a different message, according to the individual company)

What is a Bluetooth dongle?

A dongle is a small device that is plugged into the beamer using USB ports. It sends
messages from the Beamer to the customer via Bluetooth and reaches up to seven people
at a time.

There are 3 different classes of dongles:

- class 1 100 meter 330 feet

- class 2 30 meter 100 feet
- class 3 10 meter 33 feet

Why has the Black Version got 4 USB ports but only one dongle works at a time?
The Black Box is designed to only function with one dongle thus a hub unit will not enable
you to use more than one dongle. The other USB ports can be used to connect other
devices or as an alternate dongle port.

Why has the Blue Box got only 3 USB ports whilst many dongles work?
You can either connect 3 dongles to the Blue Box directly or use a hub unit as a distributor
which gives you the option to attach as many dongles as you wish.

What is the difference between the Silver Version and the Blue Version?
Both are comparable but the Silver Version gives you the possibility to tend individually to
the requirements of different customers. Each dongle attached to the Silver Box is
associated to different companies and can therefore transfer independent messages.

What does the Enterprise Edition do?

Enterprise Edition is a server. Its functionality is to manage, synchronize, and update
large number of single units that belong to the same network of Magic Beamers. This
means that you have the possibility to change the content of several MagicBeamers in
different areas all in one move without needing to program each one separately.

Is an outdoor situation suitable for the Magic Beamer?

MagicBeamer can be used outdoor however it should not be exposed to direct sunlight or
to rain. We offer special units for the operation in an outdoor environment.

QUESTIONS CONCERNING
THE DEMO VERSION

Where can I download a demo version of MagicBeamer?

http://www.blueblitz.com/download.htm

What is the difference between Demo and Full Version?

The Demo is only a limited edition of the MagicBeamer to demonstrate its working
method. It therefore does not have all the functions and only allows you to send files and
use the 2-way messaging system, whilst the Full Version allows you to use every feature
without any restrictions.

What does the MagicBeamer (Full Version) package include? Is it ready to use?
You will receive the MagicBeamer unit, the Bluetooth dongle, demo files, manual CD and
Lan cables (for direct PC to MagicBeamer connection). After a few minutes of setup, the
system is ready to use.

The demo version keeps sending files. Where can I change that?
The demo version is for demonstration purposes only and shows what the Magic Beamer
can do. The full version enables you to control the sending of files completely. You will
even be able to set timers and vary the messages throughout the day. The possibilities are
endless.

QUESTIONS CONCERNING
DATA & SENDING

How is the data stored? Is it protected?

If you have the hard-disk version it is stored on the hard-disk (usually 40 GB). We also
offer a backup inside the system.

What kind of files can you send?

Any type of files is supported by MagicBeamer. You just need to make sure that the
phones will support the file you are trying to send. Some files supported are MP3, MP4,
3GP, JPG, TEXT, RINGTONES,GIF and SWF depending on the phone. Some phones would
also support .xls, zip, doc, ppt, etc.

How can I avoid that customers receive certain messages?

The MagicBeamer offers you the possibility to create a “Exclude-List”. This means that you
can exclude any mobile phone and user from receiving all or certain messages. Or the
customer can send “scanlock” to the MagicBeamer.

My prepaid card is empty or not valid anymore. Can I still send or receive
voicemails, text messages, videos or BMS from the MagicBeamer?
Yes, BMS is free. The card can be completely empty, but as long as the mobile phone does
have Bluetooth you can send and receive any suitable file.

Are all files suitable for all mobile phones?

Not all the files are suitable for mobile phones. It will depend on the manufacturer, the
model and the year in which it was made. Please check with your mobile phone manual.

© 2008 BlueBlitz Mobile MagicBeamer Pro Version Manual Silver Version 1.8 Pricing, technical specifications are subject to change www.BlueBlitz.com Page 155
BlueBlitz

Pro Version Manual

Is there a maximum file size?

Not for the MagicBeamer, however it depends on the phone and what is the storage
capacity.

What happens if a customer does not accept the file?

Our system is a PBS (Permission Based Service), therefore the customer has always the
right to deny the files.

Is there a limit of messages you can send?

No. However, please make sure not to overload your customers with messages.

Have you noticed a slowdown in the reliability of the service if there are a large
number of phones detected?
Usually there is no noticeable slowdown. The scan interval adjusts itself automatically with
the use of more than one dongle, it can however be shortened and if large files are sent
the process will naturally take longer.

How much does the mobile phone user (end user) have to pay to receive a
message or send a message to/from MagicBeamer?
Nothing. The transfer of data is done over Bluetooth Technology and therefore is free.

QUESTIONS CONCERNING
TECHNICAL MATTERS

Can you limit the area in which the MagicBeamer is operating?

Yes, through creating restrictions directly on your Bluetooth dongle you can limit the
operating area of the MagicBeamer. You can also use class 1/2/3 Bluetooth dongles.

How many mobile phones can the MagicBeamer reach at the same time?
It depends on how many Bluetooth sticks are connected to the MagicBeamer. Our system
is able to connect up to 256 Bluetooth sticks/dongles at the same time (with an additional
cost), and each dongle can reach up to 7 phones at the same time.

How can I monitor/manage a MagicBeamer from my office?

You could manage your MagicBeamer by using remote-access via any internet-connected
computer. This connection could be established by LAN, ISDN, DSL, Wireless LAN
(additional cost), Bluetooth, GSM, GPRS, UMTS. If you have a large number of Magic
Beamers the Enterprise Version helps you synchronize them.

Can I remotely access the MagicBeamer?

Yes, using our network functions. (LAN, DSL, ISDN, Bluetooth, Wireless LAN, GSM, GPRS,
UMTS) – from your PC/Laptop, PDA and even your mobile phone.

What kind of electricity does the MagicBeamer need?

100V - 240V, 12V (cigarette lighter) or a 12V battery (lead-acid)

© 2008 BlueBlitz Mobile MagicBeamer Pro Version Manual Silver Version 1.8 Pricing, technical specifications are subject to change www.BlueBlitz.com Page 156
BlueBlitz

Pro Version Manual

What is the range of Bluetooth stick/dongle?

120m or 400 ft / Bluetooth Class 1. The dongle is provided by BlueBlitz. The range of the
dongle can be amplified up to 4 kilometers (which is illegal in most countries) in which a
communication is possible, depending on the strength of your mobile phone and further
equipment.

To guarantee an ideal communication be sure to send messages to a mobile phone with a

Class1 Bluetooth module. If the mobile only uses Class3 the MagicBeamer will be able to
send messages but never receive the response (permission) from the mobile phone.

With most new mobile phones or PDAs this is not a problem any more since they use at
least Class2 or even Class1. To bypass these troubles it is also possible connect the
dongles to a USB cable and by that greatly enlarge the reachable area.

How can I upload content?

Using a PC/Laptop, PDA, over a network or over the internet or by GSM, Bluetooth or USB
Stick.

Does it work with 2G, 2.5G and 3G phones?

The main criteria is that the phone must have Bluetooth. So we also support not only
Bluetooth phones but also Bluetooth PDAs, Bluetooth Laptops, Bluetooth Navigation
Systems, Bluetooth Printers and Bluetooth Headsets

What does the mobile phone require for the MagicBeamer to work?
The phone needs Bluetooth to receive and send files to the MagicBeamer. It does not
require any special software or application installed on the phone in order to receive
information.

Do you need to have a JAVA enabled phone?

No. It is not necessary to have a JAVA enabled phone – there is no need to install Java
software on you phone to communicate with MagicBeamer. But if you would like to send
personalized games or customized applications to your customers, you would require JAVA
on your customers phones. And you will need Java browser to browse the internet using
MagicBeamer.

What is the difference between SMS and BMS (BlueBlitz Messaging Service)?
Short Message System is offered by Telecom providers and have a cost included to send or
receive files. BlueBlitz Messaging System the transfer is absolutely free of cost.

What is the BMS advantage over bulk SMS or MMS?

SMS and MMS are considered spam in some countries (not permission based service), and
have the disadvantage that they can’t include pictures (SMS). While MMS can include
multimedia files, they are usually very expensive and not supported by all mobile phones
or networks. Another problem faced by SMS/MMS is that they don’t recognize the location
of the customer (LBS=Location Based Services), therefore can’t send location-based
information. BMS is a Permission Based Service, where the customer has the option to
decline or accept the message. If the message is accepted, the chances of being read are
99.9%. By using BMS, you know exactly where your customer is, therefore you send
special promotions or last minute offers. Last but not least, BMS transfer is free.

Do I need to have GPRS of my cell phone turned on?

No, it is not necessary to use GPRS to receive BMS (BlueBlitz Messaging System).

Is there a need of monitor, keyboard and mouse?

No, it can work without – via a network. However you can always attach a monitor or a
keyboard via USB ports for testing.

What are the measurements of the MagicBeamer?

MagicBeamer black version (Professional Edition small) – 0.6 kg; 3/13/14cm
MagicBeamer blue version (Professional Edition big) – 1.35 kg; 4/17/23cm
MagicBeamer silver version (Professional Edition Multi Clients) – 2.5kg; 7/20/25cm

Please make sure to set the administrator password and the rest of the security setting.

Does it support interactive applications?

Yes, it does support interactive applications like J2ME and WAP.

Can the mobile phones communicate with the MagicBeamer?

Yes, users can use the 2-way Messaging System, send pictures and forward them to a
specific email id (Upload & Send), or browse internet over the MagicBeamer.

How does the 2 way messaging work?

Send interactive requests or queries with a mobile phone or a PDA. Use a keyword via
Bluetooth and MagicBeamer will send you a free answer in form of a text message,
picture, MP3, movie or software. Please consult our manual for detailed information.

Can the MagicBeamer be linked to another system or program? i.e. billing?

Yes, we have our own API, however you can also use one of our developed systems or we
would be happy to develop one especially for you.

On what platform does the system run?

The system runs on Linux. We have our own operating system, making it more stable and
easy to add functions, which is all inclusive.

How do I change the time of the box?

The MagicBeamer uses GMT as the internal time which was set by the Master Server
during the installation. After that the time is not synchronized anymore which might lead
to small time differences after a longer time period. At the moment the german timezone
is programmed, however this switches automatically between summer and winter time.

What is the Mobile WAP Gateway?

Every time when a mobile phone or PDA is accessing or uploading data such as text files,
emails, MMS, ring tones, MP3s or movies a Mobile Gateway is being used. Companies,
which have a need for the fastest communication available also use Mobile Gateways to let
employees access emails or inform them, while they are traveling or outside the office.

Mobile phones and PDAs usually access gateways of telecom providers. However, if a
company needs a secure, fast and inexpensive connection, the company has to install a
private Mobile Gateway. The Mobile Gateway will be integrated directly into the existing
telecommunication and internet-infrastructure. Afterwards, all employees or predefined
member groups can directly access their company’s intranet and down- or upload files of
any kind.

- The highest possible security: No data sent over public networks, all data automatically
encrypted
- Very fast transmission speeds: optimized software makes the fastest possible
connections
- Less expensive than the competition: Special company rates create a very
inexpensive networking experience
- Personalized content with optimized design for mobile phones and PDAs: only using a
private Mobile Gateway empowers companies to identify users/user groups and
deliver them with content that fits their profile, demands and mobile phone type.
Last, but not least, the business is able to distribute different access rights to every
individual.

GSM, GPRS and UMTS

The Mobile Gateway can be used with the standard GSM and GPRS networks, as well as
with high speed UMTS. The newest version of WTLS guarantees a highly secure
environment.
- Banks use Mobile Gateways to offer their customers a variety of mobile banking services
and mobile entertainment services.
- Airlines can use Mobile Gateways to offer their customers in-flight internet and email on
their own - mobile phone.
- Car manufacturers will integrate a Mobile Gateway connected to the navigation system to
create intelligent cars, able to provide drivers with constantly updated information on
weather, traffic or news. Not only can businesses update the information on all cars and
vehicles with
one-click, but they can also update the actual car-software from afar! This means that
running car-software can get bug fixes and updates. Moreover can the car manufacturer
actually upload new programs onto any car within an instant.
- Mobile Entertainment Reseller can realize their business models to sell mobile games,
ring tones and logos.

obexfile
obexfile - sending and/or receiving files using the OBEX object push protocol.

Synopsis
/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexfile -- [-log file] local remote put {-t
type | file}
/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexfile -- [-log file] local remote get dir
{-t type | name}
/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexfile -- [-log file] local remote srv dir
[-x program] {-t type | file}

Description
obexfile is a program that can be used to send or receive files using the OBEX object
push protocol. The program can act as a client (put or get) that allows to send or
receive files from a peer, or it can act as a server (srv) that allows a peer to send
and/or receive files.

The stdinput and stdoutput file descriptors are treated by obexfile as a bidirectional
transport channel to the remote side in order to communicate with the peer by using
the OBEX protocol.

It is not a task of obexfile to establish or accept connections for the OBEX transport.
It is up to the calling application to perform such things and to set up the operating
environment of obexfile. As a result, the program by itself is independent of the
underlying protocol, which may equally be Bluetooth, IrDA, TCP/IP, or anything else
that provides a reliable bidirectional transport.

Options
The following command line options are recognized by obexfile:

-log file
Specifies the name of a logfile.

Using this option enables all send and receive actions to be logged to the given file.
The contents of this file may be used to create usage statistics of an OBEX service.

local
Specifies the local address.

This address may have any value and is used to identify the receiving component of
the local system in messages that store received objects and is also used for logging if
enabled.

remote
Specifies the remote address.

This address may have any value and is used to identify the sending component of the
remote side in messages that store received objects and is also used for logging if
enabled.

put {-t type | file}

Act in client-send mode.

One or more files file of MIME type type are sent to the peer. A specified type is also
used for all following file arguments until it is superceded by another instance of -t
type. The default for type is to send no type at all.

The local and remote addresses are not used in this mode except for logging if
enabled.

get dir {-t type | name}

Act in client-receive mode.

Pro Version Manual

One or more files of name name are to be received from the peer and are stored as
separate messages in the directory dir. The MIME type of a requested file may be
specified by type, which, once given, is also used for all following arguments until it
is superceded by another instance of -t type. A value of . for name means that no
name is sent at all in the request.

Note that many servers do not support non-empty names in requests.

srv dir [-x program] {-t type | file}

Act in server mode.

The client on the remote side may send multiple files to the local system, which are
stored as separate messages in the directory dir. For each created message, an
optional program program can be invoked and can be used in order to perform further
processing on a message. The program gets the filename of a message as its first
argument and the transmitted object name, if given, in its second argument. All
environment variables of obexfile are passed on to the invoked program and may be
used to supply additional parameters to it.

The client on the remote side may also request certain files file of MIME type type to
be sent back. A specified type is also used for all following file arguments until it is
superceded by another instance of -t type.

Requesting a file by name is not supported by obexfile, so the name must be empty if
it is given at all in a request.

Messages
Received objects are stored as separate messages in the specified directory, where
every message is named by a timestamp in hexadecimal format. Each message is used
to store one object as it is being received (probably in binary form), but with certain
e-mail like MIME headers prepended. Example:

From: RemoteAddress
To: LocalAddress
Date: CurrentDateInGMT
Subject: NameOfObject
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: TypeOfObject; name="NameOfObject"
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="NameOfObject"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: binary

...Object as received...

Every line of the header up to and including the final empty line is terminated by
CRLF. If NameOfObject is missing, the corresponding parts are omitted from the
message and the subject consists of just the text "OBEX Object". A missing
TypeOfObject is replaced by application/octet-stream.

Logfile Format
Each LF terminated line of the logfile that may be created by obexfile records one
OBEX action (send or receive) and consists of a number of TAB-separated values.
These values are:

• A timestamp with date and time in an ISO-like format, e.g. 2005-04-20 15:13:59.
• The local address as given in option local.
• The remote address as given in option remote.
• The action being performed, possible values are send and recv.
• The name of the object as send to or received from the remote side.

Examples
In the following, some examples of invoking the obexfile program are given. Note
that obexfile should always be called by using the full path to the program, otherwise
it may not be able to locate itself.

Sending the file default.vcf of the current working directory may be accomplished
by (x is not used in this case and may be any value):

obexfile -- x x put default.vcf

Receiving the default vCard from a peer into the current working directory may be
performed by:

obexfile -- LocAddr RemAddr get ./ -t text/x-vcard .

Just storing incoming objects as messages into the directory

/var/opt/ccobex/inbox and not allowing to send anything back can be achieved
by:

obexfile -- LocAddr RemAddr srv /var/opt/ccobex/inbox/

The last example demonstrates a more advanced usage of the server mode: Clients are
allowed to send arbitrary objects and received objects are stored as messages in the
directory /var/opt/ccobex/inbox. The external script
/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexpush is called for every message in order to
perform some processing on a message (see also obexproc). Clients are further
allowed to request certain files that are selected by MIME type to be sent back.
Finally, all actions are logged to the file /var/log/obexfile.log.

obexfile -- -log /var/log/obexfile.log \

LocAddr RemAddr srv /var/opt/ccobex/inbox/ \
-x /opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexpush \
-t text/x-vcard /var/opt/ccobex/default.vcf \
-t text/html /var/opt/ccobex/index.html \
-t text/vnd.wap.wml /var/opt/ccobex/index.wml

LocAddr and RemAddr are the local and remote addresses, respectively, as they
should appear in stored messages and in the logfile. A good choice for Bluetooth is
certainly the Bluetooth Device Address (BDADDR) of the party involved, which may
further be extended by the Bluetooth name of the device, for example:
00:11:22:33:44:55 (My Phone).

obexproc
obexproc - performing actions based on the contents of received vCards.

Synopsis
/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexproc -- msg-file {parameter | @conf-
file}

Description
obexproc is a program that can be used to perform some kinds of actions which can
be initiated by using certain keywords in vCards that are sent to the system.

The obexproc program can be used as a handler of incoming OBEX messages as

they are created by the program obexfile.

The general operation can be described as follows: First of all, an object is sent by a
client via OBEX to the system and is stored as a message by obexfile. Then, a
handler (obexproc) is invoked in order to process the received message. Certain
important environment variables are also set up prior to calling the handler and allow
to make connections back to the client. The task of a handler is finally to decide
which action should be performed.

obexproc distinguishes between the two cases in which either a vCard or any other
kind of object is being received. Other objects than vCards are packed into e-mail
messages and are sent either to a predefined e-mail address that has been set up by the
same client or to a default address in case that is defined.

The words of the First name and Last name fields of a vCard are used in this order
to specify an action. For most actions, only the first word is needed and is just one
digit. The following actions can be initiated and are given together with their access
code:

Pro Version Manual

1
The default object is sent back (see the parameter default=).
1 Name
A file of the standard download directory with the same case-insensitive name or
basename (name without a filename extension) as the given Name is returned. If such
a file cannot be found, nothing is returned.
3
The Email field of the vCard defines the default e-mail address to which all non-
vCard objects are to be sent which are subsequently transmitted by the same client.
An empty or non-existent Email field causes this action to be ignored.
4
Deletes the default e-mail address of the client.
9
Causes this system to initiate a connection to the Serial Port of the client, which in
turn is expected to close this connection and make itself a connection to the Serial
Port of this system, in order to finally get access to the network of this system.

All other words cause the help object to be sent back (see the parameter help=). A
response (if any) is sent back to a client with a delay of about 5 seconds. A client is
identified by its REMOTE_BDADDR (see the environment variables).

Options
The following command line options are recognized by obexproc:

msg-file
Specifies the filename of an OBEX message that is to be processed.

This file is assumed to contain exactly one received OBEX object and should be
formatted according to the messages as they are generated by the program obexfile.

parameter
Specifies a parameter.

All known parameters are described in the next section.

BlueBlitz

Pro Version Manual

@conf-file
Specifies the filename of a configuration file.

A configuration file is supposed to contain parameters, one on each line. Empty lines
and lines that start with the character "#" are ignored.

Parameters
The operation of obexproc is controlled by several named parameters. A parameter
consists of a name and a value, where both parts are separated by a "=" character.

The following parameters are recognized by obexproc and are given together with
perhaps useful values:

obexsend=/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexsend

This program is used to send a file to the remote device if needed. The filename (as
given in a request) is passed to the program in the first argument and can be used to
determine a suitable file in different ways.

obexinet=/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexinet

This program is called in order to cause the remote device to initiate an Internet
connection. No arguments are given to the program.

default=default.vcf

Specifies the filename of an object that should be sent back when no filename is
given in a request.

help=help.txt

Specifies the filename of an object that should be sent back when some kind of help
is requested. The contents of this object should give some hints on the usage of the
system.

Pro Version Manual

mailtodb=/var/opt/ccobex/mailto.db

Specifies the name of a file in which the currently active default e-mail address for
each remote device should be remembered.

from=bluetooth@localhost

Defines a non-empty e-mail address that is used in the From: header field of all
outgoing e-mail messages. This address must be permitted by the SMTP relay server
that is specified by the parameter smtp=, if that is used at all.

to=obexmail@localhost

Defines the default e-mail address to which all outgoing e-mail messages that do not
otherwise specify a To: header field are sent. If this parameter value is empty, no
messages are generated at all in such cases.

smtp=localhost

Defines the location of an SMTP relay server to which all outgoing e-mail messages
are sent. If this parameter value is empty, no messages are sent at all, but they are still
generated and saved in the outbox, and may further be processed by other programs
in this case.

The general format of this parameter is [user:pass@]host[:port] and allows to

specify a different port, and if needed, a user-id and a password for authentication
using the AUTH PLAIN command.

outbox=/var/opt/ccobex/outbox

Defines a directory into which all outgoing e-mail messages are saved. Sent messages
are copied to the sentbox directory and are finally deleted from the outbox.

sentbox=/var/opt/ccobex/sent

Defines a directory into which all sent e-mail messages are saved.

BlueBlitz

Pro Version Manual

sentlog=/var/log/obexmail.log

Defines the name of a file in which all activities during sending of e-mail messages
except the message bodies are logged. No logging takes place when this parameter
value is empty.

Environment
The following environment variables are used by obexproc and must be set up prior
to invoking the program:

LOCAL_BDADDR
Specifies the local device address.
REMOTE_BDADDR
Specifies the remote device address.
CHANNEL_OOP
Specifies the OBEX Object Push channel of the remote device if not empty.
CHANNEL_COM
Specifies the Serial Port channel of the remote device if not empty.

All environment variables are passed on to external programs that may be invoked by
obexproc.

Examples
In the following example, a typical script named obexpush is given which invokes
the obexproc program as a handler of OBEX messages that are generated by
obexfile.

#!/bin/ksh
# Args: $1 = filename of message, $2 = name of object
# Environment: LOCAL_BDADDR, REMOTE_BDADDR, CHANNEL_OOP, CHANNEL_COM

exec /opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexproc -- "$1"

A configuration file for obexproc may look like this:

# /etc/opt/ccobex/obexpush.cfg
obexsend=/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexsend
obexinet=/opt/checkcom/ccobex/bin/obexinet
default=default.vcf
help=help.txt
mailtodb=/var/opt/ccobex/mailto.db
from=bluetooth@localhost
to=obexmail@localhost
smtp=localhost
outbox=/var/opt/ccobex/outbox
sentbox=/var/opt/ccobex/sent
sentlog=/var/log/obexmail.log

A script for obexsend may look like this:

#!/bin/ksh
# Args: $1 = filename to send
# Environment: LOCAL_BDADDR, REMOTE_BDADDR, CHANNEL_OOP

test "x$CHANNEL_OOP" = x && exit 0

sleep 5
exec /usr/bin/btsocket -nr -S "$LOCAL_BDADDR" -c "$REMOTE_BDADDR" \
-p "$CHANNEL_OOP" -- /etc/bluetooth/btconnect put "$1"

A script for obexinet may look like this:

#!/bin/ksh
# Args: none
# Environment: LOCAL_BDADDR, REMOTE_BDADDR, CHANNEL_COM

test "x$CHANNEL_COM" = x && exit 0

sleep 5
exec /usr/bin/btsocket -n -S "$LOCAL_BDADDR" -c "$REMOTE_BDADDR" \
