coefficient a numerical or
constant quantity
placed before and
multiplying the

Grade: 8th
Lesson Idea: Know and apply the properties of integer exponents to generate equivalent numerical
expressions.
Learning Objective(s): Define terms; create an example to help memorize the term
ISTE Standard: 3. Research and information fluency
Problem(s) that could be solved with this data: Johnny is trying to help his friend James remember the
math terms for their current lesson. Johnny decides to make a chart for James to fill out. The chart is
given below. Help James fill out his chart.
I would begin this lesson by telling the students about the importance of speaking mathematical
language for this section. I would then go over the terms with them and ask them to complete the form.
I will assess the chart by making sure they have the correct definition, where they located the term, and
making sure they have an example for each term. Each term will be assessed as Proficient or Basic.

Learning Objective(s): Students will define shapes and find shapes used in real life.

Johnny decides to make a chart for James to fill out. The chart is given below. Help James fill out his
chart.
I would begin this lesson by telling the students that shapes are around them all the time. Then I would
point out examples of circles, triangles, squares, and rectangles in the classroom. Next I would ask the
students to point out a few. I will then explain that defining the shapes is just as important as being able
to recognize them. Last I will have them fill out the form. I will access the chart by making sure they give
the correct definitions, that the correct shapes are displayed, and they gave a reason on why they
selected the picture. Each term will be assessed as Proficient or Basic.
