ILOILO PHILOSOPHICAL ASSOCIATION

In cooperation with
ST. VINCENT FERRER SEMINARY
Invites you to the 2nd Philosophical
Convention
With the Theme:
What is a Filipino? Essential Concepts of
Filipino Identity for National Unity
On January 13-14, 2014
In St. Josephs Hall, Seminary Auditorium
St. Vincent Ferrer Seminary
Jaro, Iloilo City

Rationale of the Theme:
One of the contributing causes of the
widespread corruption in the Philippines is the
greed and selfishness of Filipinos, especially of
those in power. We cannot see anymore our
neighbors, fellow men and women, as fellow-
Filipinos. The ones we offend when we steal
money of the people are not only fellow human
beings but also fellow-Filipinos. Why can we
afford to hurt fellow-Filipinos? Is there a
relationship between offending fellow-Filipinos
and Filipino identity? It might be possible that
we can offend fellow-Filipinos because we do
not know who we are as Filipinos. We do not
know what makes a Filipino. We need to search
deep in our hearts what makes us care for
fellow-Filipinos, concepts of Filipino identity
that can unite us all Filipinos. This convention
will gather together Filipino and Ilonggo
philosophers and discuss together what truly
makes a Filipino, search or develop concepts
essential for Filipino identity for national unity.
This is our local contribution to the national
search for our common Filipino identity and
philosophy, for the lack of them contributes to
greed and selfishness that fuels corruption in
our society.
