Sehwag set a plethora of records during his innings of 284*.

Here are some of

them:

• On 48 Virender Sehwag completed his 6,000 runs in Test cricket (with a six off
Herath). Sehwag became 50th batsman in Test cricket and ninth Indian to aggregate
6,000 runs in Test cricket. Having taken 72 Tests and 123 innings to reach this
landmark, Sehwag became the second fastest among Indians in terms of Tests and
third fastest in terms of innings to do so.

• On 91 Sehwag completed his 3,000 runs at home soil.

• On 100, Sehwag scored back to back hundreds for the second in his Test career.
He had scored 131 against Sri Lanka at Kanpur. The only other instance when Sehwag
scored back to back hundreds was in 2007-08 when he made 151 against Australia at
Adelaide and followed it up with 319 against South Africa at Chennai.

• On 132, Sehwag recorded his best score against Sri Lanka in India, beating 131
in the previous Test at Kanpur.

• On 150, Sehwag posted his 12th score of 150 or more, equalling Sunil Gavaskar's
tally. Among the Indians only Sachin Tendulkar (17) have scored more scores of 150
and more.

• On 177, Sehwag posted the highest score by an Indian opener against Sri Lanka at
home, beating Sunil Gavaskar's 176 at Kanpur in 1986-87.

• On 200, Sehwag became the first Indian to post six double hundreds in a Test
career. He was earlier at level with Rahul Dravid with five double hundreds.

• On 200, Sehwag also posted the highest score by an Indian against Sri Lanka in
India, beating Mohammad Azharuddin's 199 at Kanpur in 1986-87.

• On 202, Sehwag recorded the highest score for India against Sri Lanka, bettering
his own 201* at Galle last year.

• On 224, Sehwag recorded the highest score at Brabourne Stadium, beating Vinoo
Mankad's 223 against New Zealand in 1955-56.

• On 251, Sehwag achieved the rare feat of scoring a century in a session (scoring
100 runs between tea and close). In fact Sehwag scored 133 runs in the post tea
session – most by any Indian in a session. This was the third time Sehwag was
performing the feat of scoring a century in a session- a feat no Indian has
achieved.

• On 258, Sehwag made the record of most runs by an Indian batsman in a single
day, beating his own 257 (made on the third day) against South Africa at Chennai
in 2007-08. Sehwag ended the day one with 284 runs – third best performance by any
batsman in Test cricket in a single day after Don Bradman's 309 and Wally
Hammond's 295. Sehwag has now scored 200 or more runs in a day on three occasions!

Other important records made by Sehwag during his innings:

• Sehwag's 168-ball double century is the second fastest in all Tests after Nathan
Astle, who raced to his hundred in 153 balls against England in 2001-02. Sehwag
has now scored three of five fastest double hundreds!

• Sehwag scored his 202 runs in boundaries alone – 40 fours and seven sixes. He is
the first Indian and only the fourth batsman in Test cricket to score 200 runs in
boundaries in an innings.

• Sehwag became the first batsman in Test cricket to be involved in two double
century partnerships for the first two wickets (221 for the first and 223* for the
second) in the same innings on TWO occasions. No one else has managed this even
once! The other such instance was against South Africa at Chennai in 2007-08.

India ended the day with 443 runs on the board – maximum they have scored in a
single day. They had made 417 (for 2) on the first day of Kanpur Test. In all 470
runs were scored in the day for the loss of 3 wickets.
