In Social Studies 9 we will be exploring the development of Europe and North America during a period of both
growth and conflict. You will examine society and culture politics and law economy and technology the
environment and much more! As we wor" our way through Social Studies 9 you will also develop your s"ills in the
areas of #problem solving$ #critical thin"ing$ and reading and writing. In doing so we will develop a more
informed understanding of who we are as %anadians and who we want to be.

Students are evaluated on an ongoing basis. All submitted wor" that is graded is combined and will be counted
towards final mar"s. Each student has the ability to be successful in this course7 in most cases success is simply a
choice and involves a sincere effort.

At the beginning of each class there will be a Buestion9problem on the board for you to thin" about and answer 5e.g.
#<hy do people moveC$6. ?hese Buestions are designed to get you thin"ing about the topic that we will be
discussing that day and often give you the opportunity to use your prior "nowledge to answer them. Your responses
will count towards your participation mar" for the year.

%ell phones should not be used during the lesson portion of classes. ?hey may be used during inDclass independent
wor". %ell phones will be confiscated if I see them being used in a way that is distractive to others. %onfiscated
items will be returned at the end of class.
Students must behave maturely respecting themselves others and the learning environment while abiding by the

Students who are absent are expected to catch up on any wor" that they have missed upon return. You
need to schedule a time with me to go over any missed assignments and write any missed Bui>>es9tests.

allow for greater understanding clarity and ownership of assignments resulting in higher achievement and
