"For example, as my colleague just mentioned, this legislation suggests
minimum penalties for certain drug crimes that are harsher than those for
certain sexually driven crimes involving children. We have to look at both of
those and try to see where there is a balance. I would suspect that any crime
involving children and sexual activity would have the harshest of penalties
applied. Instead there seems to be a difference in how that would be applied.
We do not support the idea of someone growing marijuana plants either, but
it certainly should not have a stricter penalty, or at least both of them should
be at the appropriate level. If we are truly talking about protecting the
vulnerable, we have to do far more than what is written in Bill C-10."

When posed the question, Bonavista-Gander-Grand Falls-Windsor

Liberal MP Scott Simms didn't hesitate in admitting he has smoked
marijuana.
Yes, I've done it, and guess what? I inhaled too, Simms said (making
reference to the Bill Clinton admission that he had smoked but never
inhaled.)
When asked if he had smoked as a sitting member of parliament,
however, Simms said he had no comment.
I've never performed my job high or drunk, as for outside of my job,
that's for me, Simms said. I didn't get into office personally to talk
about my Friday nights with friends and what exactly I do.

Dear Sam,
Thanks for your e-mail regarding the NDPs position on marijuana. In
regards to the NDP, we were the first party to support
decriminalization in 1999. At our convention in 2011 a more updated
resolution was passed (see below). Although the resolution begins with a
position on InSite, it ends with a clear direction for a non-criminal,
regulatory approach.
I have consistently opposed prohibition drug policies as harmful and
archaic, and supported the need for drug policy reform. I will continue
to work for this.
Thanks for writing.

Bruce Stanton: I oppose legalization of marijuana or decriminalization. I support

measures to make insignificant/recreational use of cannabis subject to fines instead
of imprisonment - per Chiefs of Police proposals.
Sam Vekemans: Thanks for your response. It will be publicly noted, and shared so
others won't have to ask you again.
Cannabis is not as dangerous as one might think.
What is 'insignificant' when the raw plant is not taken into consideration? Juicing
the raw plant leaves, or making the plant into an Oil, has great benefits, but not
considered.
It is unethical to prohibit a plant that was criminalized based on lies and propaganda.
http://www.cnn.com/.../gupta-medical-marijuana/index.html
Bruce Stanton: Interesting. I would hope uses of the plant that don't involve
intoxication could not be considered "criminal". However, it raises issues of control
on how one would enforce these other uses. Thank you for bringing this to my
attention.

discussions with the Canadian Medical Association on how to best prescribe cannabis

expressed that it needs time before moving to legalization to work out best
practices). We believe this issue is too important to too many Canadians to not do it

experts and other groups. Let me know if I can provide further info. Best wishes,

Mr. Speaker, the point of places like InSite is that, regardless of
whether the purchase of heroin is legal, it will be consumed by some
individuals because there is a thriving trade in drugs that we do not
accept, and none of us like it, but it is there. Just as there is a trade in
marijuana and a trade in crack cocaine, there is a trade in heroin, and
the problem with the trade in heroin is that with it come some very
unacceptable consequences of disease and death and the exposure of
small children to very dangerous things. That is the type of thing that
InSite is attempting to prevent, and that is the kind of thing for which
these places need to exist.

Liberal senators and other lefty elitists (who think growing 20 marijuana
plants is not a serious offence) probably see experimenting with drugs
as a rite of passage for Canadian youth. In contrast, the vast majority
of parents in my riding do not regard smoking marijuana as recreational.
They would much rather have their kids doing their homework than
smoking pot supplied by a drug dealer with only 20 plants.

This speaks to the heart of why I am so concerned about the
way this process is unfolding. Without pulling punches, it is
clear that Bill C-2 is part of a larger attempt by the
Conservatives to align all government policies and programs

removing all avenues for Canadians to safely address their

Cannabis is a schedule II drug and attracts lesser
penalties. It is only if at least three kilograms are
involved that trafficking and possession for the
purpose of trafficking are punishable by up to life
imprisonment. Production of cannabis is punishable

If Rob Ford decided he wanted to run for the Liberal
Party in 2015, wed say, No, sorry, the way you approach
things, the way you govern, the way you behave is not
suitable to the kind of Liberal team we want to build.
Trudeau also defended his plan to legalize pot.
Our current approach is not working. We need to
control and regulate and protect our kids, he said.

Im very interested in drawing on best

practices and not repeating mistakes that
other people might make.
What matters now, is ending a marijuana
prohibition policy that he says costs law
enforcement $500-million a year and has
left 475,000 people with criminal records
since the Conservatives took office in
2006.

Unlike the NDPs proposed job-killing carbon

Trudeaus Liberals whose only priority is to
legalize marijuana and who offer nothing on
