Washington County Fair Additions and Upgrades
Whats new at the Washington County Fair? Well, theres been a whole-lotta construction going on
this past year. An expansion to the office/entry building, a new youth dairy barn, upgrades to the
central restrooms, and even the Argyle Fire Department has completely renovated the barbeque area
of their building on the fairgrounds.
The construction began right after last years fair, with the demolition of the A-Frame Entry Office. It
was determined by the fairs buildings and grounds committee that expanding the existing fair office
was the most efficient solution to the need for additional space. The previously existing portion of the
office building is now the entry office. Counter space was reconfigured and the two doors, one for
entering and one for exiting, in the central part make for smoother traffic flow. The fair managers
office was converted to copy room and storage. The many ribbons awarded during the week of fair
are kept here. The new portion of the office building includes the fair managers office, the fair office
coordinators office, a reception area with work space for seasonal administrative staff, a large meet-
ing room, and an open space on the second floor for storage.
After 4 years of exhibiting in a tent, the youth dairy exhibitors will be enjoying the newest building on
the grounds, the Youth Dairy Barn. This 72 by 162 foot pole barn can house 100 cows, heifers and
calves. The building has 6 overhead roll up doors, sliding door along the sides, and was built with
ventilation in mind. This building will add to the fairs winter storage rental capacity.
Upgrades to the central restrooms have been made. There is now a family restroom and new exhibitor
showers.
Not to be left out of the continuous buzz of saws and banging of hammers, the Argyle Fire Department
removed the sorely aging barbeque enclosure and replaced it with a new BBQ pit building with an
exhaust hood system to remove the smoke for the volunteers cooking chicken and to share the smells
for the fairgoers
The Washington County Fair runs August 18 to 24, 2014. The fair has been a long standing local
tradition for over a century. Fairgoers can enjoy free entertainment and support the countys agricul-
tural heritage by visiting the many farm families that exhibit at the fair each year.
Children 13 and under get in free and adult admission is just $10. All entertainment is free of charge
and discount carnival ride tickets are available for advance purchase, before August 18th, on the fairs
website, www.washingtoncountyfair.com
