Internship Opportunities

The Yunus Emre Institute provides the opportunity for a 3 month internship for undergraduate
students currently studying social studies in areas directly related to language, culture, art and
history or other such areas as finance, information management and documentation or human
resource management. With such internship, students have the opportunity to gain knowledge
and skills in their field of study and can take advantage of all scientific and practical
opportunities in the scope of the Institute.
The areas of work for students taking internship at the Institute are, in general, as follows:
Assisting in the development of resources for lesson tools and materials,
Classification for the library and registering of assets,
Being involved with the organisation of activities conducted concerning language, culture, arts
and history,
Participating in activities concerning the Directorates of Human Resources, Financial Affairs
and Technical Administration,
Fulfilling tasks required of them in regards to other activities of the Institute in coordination
with the other units of the Institute.
Student interns at our Institute shall be selected based on an average score obtained from their
annual general grade average, foreign language grade and an interview to assess their
knowledge of their field.

During the internship period, you will be exposed to these areas:
Responsibilities:
*To assist Secretary /Management Executive in providing secretarial and
administration support to Director's office.
*To assist in secretarial and adminstration functions such as typing of letters,
memos,reports, proposals, presentations, travelling arrangement, exhibition
preparation, brochure etc.
*To make sure proper filing and records of documents and related documents
are passed to respective individual accordingly.

Work management and organizational skills to manage multiple activities for the
accomplishment of a defined set of desired end results. This includes prioritizing tasks,

What to Expect
As a human resources intern, your work could include:
Strategic Human Resources
Develop ministry related workforce reports to support business decisions
Analysis of ministry workforce trends, gaps and opportunities to inform strategy
development
Develop and implement change management strategies to support achievement of
ministry business objectives, including organizational assessment/diagnostics
Develop and deploy employee engagement programs
Implement/report on corporate HR plans and programs at the ministry level.
Regional Human Resources Service Delivery
Provide quality service-oriented advice to clients by interpreting and applying
appropriate legislation, collective agreements, policies and procedures
Provide advice and coaching to front-line managers on a variety of HR management
issues.
Regional Recruitment Service Delivery
Provide end-to-end recruitment services for all positions (excluding executive group)
Provide proactive outreach and strategic recruitment initiatives for the region
Interpret and apply appropriate legislation, collective agreements, policies and
procedures when providing advice to clients
Provide employee advisory services including interview coaching, resume writing and
advice on learning and development
Regional responsibility for administration of job trades, job transfers and lateral
transfers.
Enterprise Human Resources Services
1) Employee Health, Safety and Wellness
Assist in providing specialist services to line mangers, OPS employees and HR business
units in the areas of workforce health and safety, ergonomic education and assessment,
workplace safety audits and injury support
Participate in the development of corporate wellness programs and implementation
planning
Research health and safety issues and related legislation.
2) Total Compensation Services
Participate in the design, documentation and determination of the work performed in
the OPS by developing, writing and classifying job descriptions
Work with Job Evaluation Consultant to respond to and defend classification grievances
with programs manager
Support the development, maintenance, management and controllership of the OPS job
evaluation process, policies, standards and practices.
3) Enterprise Executive Services
Support talent management activities, assess learning needs and participate in
development of learning solutions
Support and participate in executive recruitment activities.
4) Centre for Learning
Support the regional delivery of OPS training, courses and program curriculum.
5) HR Policy and Planning
Develop, review and analyze workforce reports and metrics
Participate in the development of corporate HR policies and strategy.

As a Business and Financial Planning Intern you will be part of this team. The Ontario Internship

work in Information and Information Technology (I&IT). We have won many awards for our
work to improve government accessibility and service delivery through technology, and we are
seen as leaders in the field. But that's not all. I&IT is integral to how government works on the
inside. From researching new and exciting applications to establishing a new infrastructure
service, I&IT helps the government get things done.
As an I&IT intern with the Ontario Internship Program (OIP) you will have the opportunity to be

Application Services: Develop applications and solutions for business portfolios and
provide specialized technical development services and resources
Business Technology Solutions: Identify business problems and propose potential
technology solutions
Information Management: Plan, evaluate and deploy information assets such as
documents, data, electronic records etc. to support value-added work by establishing
disciplined and consistent practices related to the end-to-end management of
information throughout its lifecycle: planning, collection or creation, use and
dissemination, maintenance, disposition and evaluation
Enterprise Architecture: Manage the enterprises key business, information, application,
security and technology strategies and their impact on business functions and
processes, governed by best practices, methods, standards and principles
Information Security: Administer the virus protection program, including developing
standards, guidelines and best practices for security; educate and alert staff to potential
security problems; provide guidance, including information on threat and risk analysis
Infrastructure Management: Operate IT infrastructure; lead and manage the
development of common standards and policies, including common application
systems, networks protocols, database management systems and protocols

Skills and Abilities
Due to the varied nature of the I&IT work/opportunities available, we are seeking candidates
who can demonstrate a variety of skills and abilities in at least one of the following areas:
Technical Skills and Abilities:
Application Design/Architecture: knowledge and experience with developing computer
applications, and the ability to define the major steps or phases of creating an
application. Having the understanding of basic activities and deliverables associated
with application design, the technical architecture relevant to the specific environment.
Can identify and describe the specific tasks, activities and deliverables of technical
design, and is aware of technical architecture standards and considerations
Application Packaging and Deployment: ability to develop application installation
packages and coordinate small to large scale application deployments and interface with
ITIL Service Management best practices such as Change and Configuration Management
Business and/or Systems Analysis: ability to perform business and/or systems analysis
for new and existing applications. Candidate should possess analytical and programming
skills, and be detail-oriented. Should have experience with modern techniques/tools
such as UML and Rational Unified Process. The candidate should be able to actively
evaluate and analyze client needs to determine project linkages, conduct feasibility
studies and develop IT strategies
Database Analysis and Administration: experience in analysis, design and
administration of small to large-scale systems and databases including OLTP, OLAP and
Spatial database platforms. This includes software installation and configuration, DB
level backup/recovery
Enterprise Architecture: an understanding of the concepts, philosophies and tools
behind the design of applications, information and underlying information technologies
Information Management: demonstrates knowledge and the ability to administer and
communicate organizational practices, standards and procedures in the areas of

library sciences and intellectual property. Ability to provide guidance and support for

Information Security: experience in planning, organizing, implementing and testing

IT Standards, Policies and Procedures: demonstrates knowledge and the ability to use

What does it mean to develop policy in the Ontario Public Service?
A public servant provides professional, non-partisan advice to a problem or situation that has
been identified which affects people and which is seen as requiring some form of government
involvement.
As an intern in the policy development focus area, you may participate in and support the
implementation of programs/policy decisions by researching, analyzing and evaluating
issues/situations, developing tools, preparing options papers/reports, and presentations that
will communicate recommendations to government decision-makers.
Policy analysis can lead to changes in legislation and in the way in which government programs
and services are provided to Ontarians. Policy interns may participate in and support projects
that contribute to a number of government priorities, such as:
Ensuring sustainable and quality standards of education/health/social service delivery
Protecting Ontarios natural resources and the environment
Promoting provincial and international economic growth

recommending improvements
