1. Tony is a registered architect practising in an architectural firm. The Contractor of one of his
projects invites him to attend a Chinese New Year celebration dinner, to be attended by the
Client and the rest of the project consultant team. The Contractor also intends to send a
hamper to Tony, and asks for his home address. Separately, the Client offers Tony a bottle
of wine as a token of appreciation for his effort on the project. The Client take this
opportunity to ask Tony to delay one of the Contractors payment claims, because he is
unhappy with the Contractors performance. Explain the issues that Tony should be
concerned with, and how he should act.
2. Mrs Tan is looking for an architect to design her new restaurant. She saw an advertisement
for a design firm offering architectural services and decided to engage them. Philip, an
architectural graduate and a principal in the said design firm, introduced himself as an
Architect, and submitted a fee proposal inclusive of authority submissions. Mrs Tan
chanced upon a circular issued by Singapore Institute of Architects regarding the Provision
of Architectural Services by Unlicensed Companies and Individuals dated 22 April 2014.
Curious, Mrs Tan decided to check the Board of Architects website to verify Philips
registration and to her surprise, she found out that Philip is not a registered architect.
Advise and explain what Mrs Tan should do.
