ROLE PLAY

Yujin Hong Chairperson

Jose Luis Ramos Chicanos
Michelle Mexicans

Good afternoon everyone. Im yujin Hong from Korea who is chairperson in this
debate. Now we are going to discuss about Chicanos and Mexicans. Before we start, I
would like to introduce the representative from each communities. This is Jose Luis Ramos
who is representative from Chicanos and this is Michelle who is representative from
Mexicans. (Greeting each other)
1. You two can spill out the opinions about issues in a 2 minute.
Chicanos:
1. People of Mexican descent, might get confused with Mexicans that go illegally into
the USA
2. Mexicans think they are entitled to come into the USA because there is a strong
Hispanic community
3. Mexicans think Spanish is the first language of Americans with Mexican descent,
and want us to speak it with them.
4. The amount of illegal immigrants in the USA make the authorities search chicanos
for papers without any provocation.
5. Chicanos have Mexican descent, but are part of another culture
Mexicans: One of the phenomena that I found most curious is the Chicano vs Mexico. To
me, a Chicano was just a way of calling Mexican immigrants, but the concept is not exactly
that. In fact, in Stanford, every nationality has their association (the Spanish is Iberia) while
there, Association of Mexicans (very large about 80) and Association of Chicanos (even
larger, a couple hundred).
I think you never get to be fully integrated into the host society, even when you're second
generation as Chicanos, because in the end much of the culture you transmits the family,
and this is still Mexican longer to do that not live in the country of origin.
2. You two have a 2 minute for refutation.
Chicanos: The issues is that Mexicans should learn the fact that they are coming to another
country, with its own rules and regulations and should abide them, their culture and their
behavior should not be together.
Mexicans: That would be if Mxico still had the territories stolen by USA? think that we
are more liberal about it would with much territory, our system of government we have in
Mexico is a liberal on our street. I think what we have to do here is ALL MEXICAN
STATES REPUBLIC IS SIMPLY BE .. that's what we need is just the reality we have to
clean our image ... and Chicanos because from my point of view I consider them they are
people who are stereotypes of Mexicans, Mexicans think if they were really being bumped
hand and vice versa.
Mexico being is more than that simply are a liberal... and we like the chaos we better and
everything and I think we start by not neglect what we have ...
Thank you for passionate debate for Chicanos and Mexicans stance. It was great time with
two representative today.
