FEEDWATER HEATERS INSPECTION PROCEDURES

External/ Internal Visual Inspection

I. Alignment/ Condition

Definition - Alignment are done usually on equipment or vessels based on the requirements of the system to run
perfectly during operations. Equipment nozzle should not be stressed or be forced fitted when integration of
piping connects unto the vessel.

Requirements - Alignment is required to lessen the vibration and minimized stress on the nozzle part.
Misalignment of flanges from the integrating piping will cause impact on the unit. Integration of piping to the
equipment should meet the necessary tolerances so that equipment will give a satisfactory output on the
system.

Parameters/ Tolerances - Use filler gauge when doing the box up of flanges for integration. No forced box of
flanges. Required gap for the Box up of flanges is (+, -)______. Foundation or based support for the equipment
(Vessel) should thoroughly check. Application of transit to check levelness and height of the foundation or vessel
support. Use shim plate for equipment adjustment. Tolerance for the vessel is (+, -)___.

II. Component / Attachment

Definition - Components/ attachment are specified as nozzles, reinforcing pad, lifting lug and pipe supports.
These component/ attachment are directly welded unto the vessel equipment and is 100% (NDT) x-rayed.
Components/ attachment mostly are to be integrated to the piping system of the vessel.

Requirements - Vessel are either supplied by certain manufacturer or is fabricated. Life span of the vessel
depends upon the proper maintenance being done by the operations. Long time used of the vessel to its system
will somehow cause defects. The most common defects occurred on the vessel was the cracks on weld and pin
holes on weld that caused leaks to the system. Drop out on pressure or temperature will be registered on its
transmitter and instruments. Therefore, welding repair will be done to the unit to avoid further damages.

Tolerances/ Parameters - After all the repairs, components/ attachment will be subject for (NDT) Non
Destructive Testing to check if cracks and pin holes on weld are properly seal.

III. Dimensional Inspection

Definition - Dimensional inspection is done to identify necessary location and distance designated on the
drawing.

Requirements - Dimensional inspections are necessary to avoid mis-location of a certain item based on the
drawing desired. Mis-location of the item will may cause clashing between the two items. Implementation of
require tolerances are made to avoid incorrect dimensions based on the drawing desired.

Inspection Procedures

Tolerances/Parameters - On vessels nozzles to piping system integration, it is necessary that the flanges holes
are both correct in location otherwise vessel nozzle will be overstressed due to misalignment. Tolerance on
flange hole mismatch is (+,-) ____.

NDT REQUIREMENT

Definition (NDT) Non Destructive Testing is to know the internal defects without changing the physical
appearance or composition of the material.

Radiography Test (RT) 4% ---Defect on weld such crack on the nozzles, shell, reinforcing pad, supports and
other direct attachment on vessel are subject (RT).

Penetrant Test (PT) 3% ---Defect on weld such as pinholes on the nozzles, shell, reinforcing pad, supports,
lifting lugs and other direct attachment on vessel are subject (MPT).

Ultrasonic Test Gauging (UTG) 3% ---Equipment material such as shell, cover plate, nozzles and lifting lugs,
equipments support.
