MUNICIPAL ELECTION ISSUE #2 of 3
Filling a Pothole
What difference does it make who wins a
Municipal Council seat? After all, theres only
one way to fll a pothole, right? Wrong. Theres a
Republican way to fll a pothole and a Democratic
way to fll a pothole.
The Republican way is to hire a private contractor
who then hires the cheapest labor he can fnd--no
health benefts, no retirement benefts, possibly
illegals. The contractor makes a large proft and
after the job, his employees are again out of work.
The Democratic way is to hire full time workers,
with health and retirement benefts at a living
wage. And after the job, the employees are still
employed.
Vote Democratic!
Local Elections Are Like
Professional Baseball
Often, voters feel that local Municipal elections
are not important. But consider this: professional
baseball is divided into two groups: the major
leagues (the majors) and the minor leagues (the
minors). The baseball clubs in the majors need a
place where young players can develop their skills
and older players can work on shoring up their
weaknesses. A young player will usually spend
some time in the minors before being recruited by
a major league team. Without the minor leagues,
major league baseball scouts would not know
which players should be considered as candidates
to be brought up to the majors.
The same is true in politics. Local politicians
(county commissioners, mayors, school board
members) develop their skills and abilities
in the offces they have been elected to. Their
communities can assess their skills and abilities
(in the minor leagues) and scout them for higher
offce. If you, the voter, dont scout your minor
league players, you are very apt to end up with
political players, going to the majors, whose
ideas are totally contrary to yours.
Sometimes players go up to the majors without
playing in the minors. However, they are not
unproven. They have performed in other venues
of the game, such as high school or college. Can
you think of any major league team which selects a
completely unknown? In the 2010 elections many
unproven players with no political history were
selected by voters, not by their proven record, but
purely by the emotion provided in false advertising
of the moment. If someone who has performed

Check Your Voter Status
For your peace of mind, its always a good idea to
check the status of your registration and Vote-By-
Mail application. You can quickly do that here:

CheckVoterStatus. If you dont have a computer,
phone your supervisor of elections offcetheyll
be glad to help you.
Of all the enemies to public liberty, war is,
perhaps, the most to be dreaded because
it comprises and develops the germ of
every other. War is the parent of armies;
from these proceed debts and taxes
known instruments for bringing the
many under the domination of the few.
No nation could preserve its freedom in
the midst of continual warfare. James
Madison
Do You Know If Your City Has A
Municipal Election
On March 13th?
If so, do you know which candidate(s) are likely to
fll a pothole like a Democrat? See the chart
starting on page 4 for Palm Beach County
Municipal elections being held in 2012 and
candidate recommendations.
as a school board member wishes to run for the
Florida legislature, their actions as a school board
member will tell you if they support your pothole-
flling philosophy.
The Republicans have been building their
minor league bench for years. This has put
them in an excellent position to move up to
other elected positions.
We need to set Democrats up for victory, not this
year or next, but in 10 yearswhich is how long
it will take to fll the pipeline. Only then will we
garner enough candidates to be competitive and
take back control of various offces.
Remember, when you vote in local elections, you
are scouting players who may eventually run for
the majors. Know your candidates histories...
and vote for them! d.i.
Its Not Too Late To Apply For a
Vote-By-Mail Ballot
Vote-By-Mail Ballots will be mailed out on
February 24th. If you havent already applied for
one, its not too late. You can apply on-line by
clicking on this link: http://www.fadems.com/
pages/request-a-vote-by-mail-ballot or by phone
at (561) 656-6200 hours are 8:30 am to 5pm.
One will be sent to you in plenty of time to vote
before March 13 (Municipal Election Day).
[Note: If your picture ID and your voter
registration signatures are not exactly the same
(such as middle initial on one and not on the
other) your ID will be challenged and you may
have a problem voting.
When you go to vote, you will need an acceptable
ID with a picture. If you do not have one, I urge
you to vote by mail--no ID and no picture are
required.]
[Baseball, continued from page 1]
Republicans would rather have
Obama fail than to do something
positive for the middle class.
They just don't care.

The Fourth of the Seven Biggest Economic Lies.
(Watch for Lie #5 in next months issue)
Lie #4. Cutting the budget defcit now is more
important than boosting the economy. Untrue.
With so many Americans out of work, budget cuts
now will shrink the economy. Theyll increase
unemployment and reduce tax revenues. That will
worsen the ratio of the debt to the total economy.
The frst priority must be getting jobs and growth
back by boosting the economy. Only then, when
jobs and growth are returning vigorously, should
we turn to cutting the defcit. --Robert Reich
Pants On Fire
Republican Lie of the Month
Politifact rates claims and allegations as
being Pants On Fire lies when they are
baseless and without merit.
Inside the stimulus package is anti-
Christian legislation that will stop churches from
using public schools for meeting on Sundays, as well
as Boy Scouts and student Bible study groups. --Newt
Gingrich
We havent seen anything that supports Gingrichs
claim that the stimulus will stop church groups
from meeting at public schools, nor Boy Scouts or
Bible study groups. In fact, the clause on religion
does not even apply to public schools. Inasmuch
as this one seems aimed at unnecessarily infaming
the conservative Christian base, wed like to retort
with some fames of our own. We rate Gingrichs
claim Pants on Fire. [For more details, go to www.TeRational
Majority.org and click on the Snap-Dragons button.]
Fox News Uninformed
Fox News viewers are less informed than people
who dont watch any news, according to a
new poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
The poll surveyed New Jersey residents about
the uprisings in Egypt and the Middle East, and
where they get their news sources. The study,
which controlled for demographic factors like
education and partisanship, found that people
who watch Fox News are 18-points less likely to
know that Egyptians overthrew their government
and 6-points less likely to know that Syrians
have not yet overthrown their government
compared to those who watch no news.
There is something about watching Fox
News that leads people to do worse on these
questions than those who dont watch any news
at all. commented Dan Cassino, a political
science professor at Fairleigh Dickenson.
