Practical name :
Fitting (Thread Tee Plate)
Introduction :
This workshop practical help students with the opportunity to acquire essential workshop
bench skills. The candidates fabricate a practical project, using hand tools and pillar drills. The
project requires the reading of drawings, marking out, sawing, filing, drilling and tapping and
these skills are taught as the candidates progress through the project.
The proper and safe use of tools coupled with the necessity to fabricate to the tolerances
specified in the drawings ensures that the candidates improve their practical bench skills and
also learn how to apply themselves to the exercise most effectively.
Objective :
1. Select and use marking out tools
2. Select and use hand cutting tools
3. Perform a basic fitting work to an accuracy 0.4 mm
Apparatus :
1. Flat files rough and smooth
2. Hacksaw
3. Hammer and center punch
4. Vernier height gauge
5. Vanier caliper
6. Taps and wrench
7. Drilling machine and drill bit
8. Try square
9. Goggle
10. Suitable work piece

Procedure :
1. We select datum A file and check flatness with try square.

2. We select datum B (right angle to datuam A) file and check flatness and squareness
3. Then we marking out by referring to the drawing given.

4. After that, we center punch the point that to be drilled.

5. Drill the hole.

6. After finishing that drilling, use the taper to make a thread as a tapping process.

7. Then, the unnecessary part was cutting by hacksaw.

8. By using the file, we shape the project and check the flatness and squareness.

9. Lastly, we check the size with vernier caliper.

Discussion :
There are some difficulties during this project which is the line that we cut based on the mark is
shorter or longer than the actual line, so we need to allowance. Allowance for each shape is
different which is 10mm for basic part, double seams 20mm and hem 10mm. if it is longer, file
will use to get the true line based on the drawing.
Next difficulties is the line is not straight when marking process, so we need to use L square tu
make sure the line is straight.
Lastly is the hole is not straight. So the drill lead must be perpendicular or 90 degrees with the
surface to make the hole straight. It also same when tapping process occurs.

Conclusion :
The project are successfully to be done. We have learned essential workshop bench skills. We
also knows practical project, using hand tools and pillar drills. The skills that we got from this
workshop are reading of drawings, marking out, sawing, filing, drilling and tapping.
Besides, we also get a many knowledge about proper and safe use of tools coupled with the
necessity to fabricate to the tolerances specified in the drawings ensures that we canimprove
our practical bench skills and also learn how to apply ourselves to the exercise most effectively.
