5S TRAINING PROGRAM
Program Outline
Our 5S program includes onsite training, implementation in one or two areas or one line, operation, and
sustainment. This is a repetitive training-implement-sustain program that does not overwhelm the employees.
We do the training, program management, and facilitation.
This two to five-day workshop, (timeframe depends upon the size of the project) gives participants the
knowledge on how this teams focused approach gets fast measurable results, decreases resistance to change,
and takes advantage of the employee knowledge already in the organisation.
This training is focused upon the learner becoming confident is the use of the tools necessary to be able to
effectively conduct a 5S Project.
During this training module, learners will be guided through an intensive 5S Project.
If training is conducted in the learners workplace then a project will be selected based upon business needs. If
the training is off-site then a simulated exercise will be undertaken.
This course is a way to introduce 5s into an organisation using an approach whereby continuous
improvements within the workplace become the language of the business, "The way we work".
5S System
The 5S System is a series of activities designed to improve workplace organization and standardization.
Standardization in the workplace simplifies everyday activities leading to time-saving improvements. The 5S
activities include:
Sort through all items and remove unneeded items
Set in Order all remaining items, set limits, create temporary location indicators
Shine or clean everything and use cleaning as inspection
Standardize the first 3 Ss by implementing visual displays and controls
Sustain the gains through self-discipline, training, communication, and total employee involvement

5S System Onsite Training and Implementation

The 5S program is implemented by addressing each of the five Ss. Those are Sort, Set-in-order, Shine,
Standardise, and Sustain. 5S is a broad program and should have a big impact on your operations. An

Workshop Objectives (Day 1)
Training on: What is 5S, and why do we want to do it? (Day 1 only) refer to (Workshop)
This is a full day workshop that covers the basic 5S system (Sort, Set-in-Order, Shine, Standardise, Sustain).
Participants apply each S to a simulated factory and measure the results of their efforts and experience first-
hand how the 5S system reduces waste and improves productivity and quality.
This group training exercise is designed to precede a 5S implementation,.
1. Understand the difference in workplace appearance and functionality before and after the 5S process
has been applied
2. Develop skills needed to perform an in-depth audit of workplace organization and standardization
3. Become skilled at applying the concepts of sort, set-in order and shine in order to organize a
workplace
4. Learn to standardize and sustain procedures to maintain and control an organized workplace using
visual controls
5. Recognize how 5S can help to improve workplace environmental health and safety.
Day Two The Project
Define the target of our 5S project:
Define the schedule for performing our 5S project:
A meeting will be held prior to each days activities to plan and schedule what will be done (daily).
A wrap-up meeting will be held to review what was accomplished (daily).
Review and document results (at conclusion of 5S project)
Note: "Before" pictures should be taken on day 1
To conclude the project a celebration of 5-s effort and results! (Note: This usually includes a picture
board and a tour)
