Ten Years Later
Ten years ago the North
Norfolk District Council
ran their frst Greenbuild
weekend in the grounds
of the Felbrigg Estate.
And another very successful
day was enjoyed by everyone
who turned out this year.
Lis and I joined our friends,
Micky & Judy Peters, from
Trimingham on Sat 6th Sept
and over lunch we shared a
table with (On right) Lily
& Helen Turner who had
biked from East Runton.
Greenbuild is a great event
that tells you all you need to
know to be more friendly to
our environment.
With all the interesting stands
promoting everything green
the turnout was high and the
interest impressive with over
60 exhibitors.

choice of various delicious lunches.

I have to say that getting it right
as to what kind of humour in our
jokes (or poems) our readers will
accept is not an easy task at all.
Will I ever get it right for all our
readers? The answer is probably
not very likely but thank you to
all the readers who write in.
My apologies to Philip Graham, I
will try a little harder next time.
Lis and I enjoyed our evening of
Old Time Music Hall, at Roy
Davenports Magic Kingdom.
I am always very impressed, how
one can become a 4th generation
Magician as Roy is. (See Page 6)
On the 14th of September I popped
along to take the a photograph (on
Page 19) of the Mundesley Players.
As anyone who has ever seen them
will know, this group of players
are very good at pulling off any
kind of production, whether it is
Shakespeare or a song and dance
musical performance like their
recent show A Taste Of The
Musicals.
Between Monday September 14th
and the time this issue comes out
I will have covered half the globe
and be in The Land Of The Long
White Cloud, yes New Zealand.
When you consider the time and
energy given by Captain James
to get to and from New Zealand
you have to admire his skills in
navigation to fnd these islands.
As you fy merrily over hundreds
/ thousands of miles you have to
spare a thought for Cook and his
crew, who at the time still believed
the world was fat and that you
fell off the world when you got
to the horizon. How they got
them on board amazes me.
Many thanks go to Eduardo Garcia
for his photographs of the Ingworth
Trosh & Helen Burrell for her report
(Page 10) and also to David Ross
for his article (Page 19) about the
Mundesley Players production of
An Inspector Calls.

Dear Philip,
I am responding to a letter in your last issue
ref: Trunchonbury.
I would have to say as far as I am aware that
the majority of Trunch residents, I being one
of them, whole heartedly embraced the
Trunchonbury festival.
Both the old & young had a glorious weekend
of entertainment with music, dance, theatre, magic,
all types of food & beer and lots of childrens
entertainment.
Overall it was a safe well planned family festival,
due to consulting the relevant departments on
security, health & safety, noise & highways
very early in the planning stage.
The bands were local and gave their time for free
and music stopped at exactly the times specifed
and was pre agreed with the authorities. I have
never seen so many happy smiling faces and
would say that a lot of the people who had
trepidation over the event were won over
by the end of the weekend.
All those who pulled together to give up their
free time to set this up should be applauded
and not criticised with words like antics.
Regarding the road closures please realise that
this was done so with the highways approval
and notifed well in advance of the weekend.
Over the weekend we saw lots of old friends
and made lots of new and the main question
asked of me and the organisers: will this be
happening next year and how can we help?
sums up the ethos of Trunchonbury.
This was a festival organised for charity and
both the Mundesley lifeboat and the Trunch
village society will receive large donations
for their causes.
Finally my family and I would like to say a big
thank you to the Cornish family for allowing
this to go ahead, after the untimely death of
their father Charles Cornish. I know that he
was looking forward to the event and was
happy to allow it to happen on his paddock.
Kind regards
Kazik Wrana
Trunch.
Dear Philip,
In response to Davids letter in Issue 045.
Trunchonbury was not a hastily fung together
rave, as some of the rumour-mongerers were
happy to spread; it was a fantastic family festival
organised by a team of over 30 volunteers over
a time span of 9 months.
When asked about hosting Trunchonbury,
Charles Cornish had said: this could be
the most exciting event to ever take
place on my paddock.

Dear Mr Keddell,
Correspondent Nona Wright objected to you
printing what she judged to be offensive
verse. What I fnd offensive is that the verse
is so poor.
I have read better oeuvre on lavatory walls,
even if it is anatomically implausible.

Dear Editor,
The Cromer Skate Park campaign has reached
its fundraising target of 150,000 thanks to a
9,000 donation from the J Davy Foundation
and construction of the park should start
within the next two or three months.
However the work of the committee is not over
as they now need to address issues such as on-
going costs with respect to the lease of the site,
maintenance, Insurance, Signage, benches &
pathways and training young people to act
as skate park rangers.
The campaigns AGM takes place at 6pm on
Monday 29th September at The Cottage on
Louden Road. Those interested in getting
involved are encouraged to attend.
Those who cannot make it but would like to be
involved may contact the committee via any of

Dear Philip,
In reply to the letter in Issue 45: I cannot believe
that Nona Wright was offended by the My
Missus poem. I had heard it before, and
I found it side splittingly funny.
I suggest that Miss/Mrs Wright, gets a sense of
humour and far from writing in to complain, as
she requested, I have a repertoire of similar poems
that she may like me to recite for her: purely to
broaden her horizons you understand.
Yours Sincerely
Dorothy Millard
Trunch.
Dear Crab Tales
Back in the spring soon after our Community
Caf opened in Tucker Street, Philip called in
and mentioned that Boyers had a bus they
were looking for a home for, so off we
went to have a look.
Six months later I returned from my hols to fnd
a beautifully clean sign written bus, just waiting
for us to start using on many of our projects
like our regular lunch clubs for the over 60s.
Also for trips and outings for our members
giving respite to their families .
We cannot thank Matt and his team enough for
his generosity and are really looking forward to
all the things we will now be able to access.
It truly restores your faith in human nature.
Regards,
Lyn Hind, Catering Manager
About with Friends
Dear Editor,
I have never really felt the need to comment on
peoples letters that they have written (each to
his or hers) but when I looked at a response
from Nona Wright of Cromer, saying that she
has a good sense of humour but not for the
My Missus in Issue 043 of the Crab Tales,
I was thinking Maybe you dont.
I did and I am sure a lot of your other readers
found it amusing and I would be interested to
know if David Thorne has a book or booklet
with any of the same which as you said was
not his own words. It really made me smile,
keep up the good work.
Many Thanks
Karen Lingwood,
Sheringham
As someone who has lived in Trunch long enough
to remember the huge whole village fetes that
took place on the paddock each year and the
Queens Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977,
I have to agree with him; this event brought
together people of all ages and backgrounds
and was truly wonderful.
Our party of 12 ranged from 1yr. to mid 50s and
all, without exception, had a fantastic weekend.
The young people enjoyed the many activities,
not to mention the live music and dancing, in
a safe environment and we were able to relax
with friends and enjoy the local bands who all
gave up their time for free. There were also
free events in the village hall all weekend
for residents who may not have wanted
to attend the festival itself.
Road closures are not unheard of in Trunch the
last one being in 2012 for Jubilee Street Party.
Whilst they can be inconvenient for residents,
access remained available for those living along
Mundesley Road, but through traffc was diverted.
I am not an expert on birds & wildlife, however
as a regular walker past the paddock, the bats,
rabbits & moles seem as active as ever!
I do, however, think that 2 nights of live music
until 9pm, and dancing until midnight, with the
event fnishing promptly at 6pm on the Sunday,
is hardly unreasonable.
Far from riding roughshod over the Trunch
locals I think the organisers have made every
effort to provide something for everyone, and
should be highly commended.
Yours sincerely,
Hazel Taylor
Dear Philip,
One of the great things about living in North
Norfolk is that the people here accept that
nothing is perfect, and the Crab Tales is
no exception. However, I have to take you to
task over your report on the recent Coastwatch
Fun Day at Mundesley. You reported that the
event was organised, in the main, by me.
Very fattering, but not true. A small Fun Day
Committee formed from watchkeepers and
friends of the station spent many hours
planning and preparing for the event.
They were responsible for the huge success on
the day and I, on behalf of all members of the
station, would like to use your magazine to
publicly thank them for their efforts.
I am sure that those members of the public who
attended the Fun Day would agree that they put
on a very professional event which raised almost
3000 to keep the Station running for many
months to come.
Yours,
John Carpenter, Station Manager
National Coastwatch - Mundesley
Dear Philip,
As one of the main organisers of Trunchonbury
festival this year I would like to respond to the
letter by David in your last issue.
This festival took 9 months of careful planning
the Parish council gave a unanimous vote for it
to take place and we were granted a premises
licence by NNDC for it to go ahead.
It cost over 20,000 to host, we not only raised
that cost but also a few thousand on top for our
2 charities the Mundesley Inshore Lifeboat and
Trunch village.
There were more than 50 acts on 7 stages where
over 3000 adults & children enjoyed one of the
most magical events that has happened in our area.
There was only one complaint to the council after-
wards; a beer bottle was found in their garden.
The emergency services were not called out at
all to the site and the security company involved
had no problems to deal with the entire time, and
the site was left clearer than when we arrived.
North Norfolk Highways gave plenty of notice
to close the road David was talking about as
it would be unsafe for pedestrians during the
festival hours, also the lack of wildlife might
have been due to the fact they were in the
dance tent !!
We understand it was noisy for some but as one
resident said the village is quiet for 51 weeks
a year, we can make a bit of noise and raise
money for Trunch with the other!
Steve Randell
As a rule I can never get enough of poets, and
I do not subscribe to the idiosyncratic proposal
that they should all be taken out and shot.
But after reading the efforts published
in the Crab Tales, well...
Yours sincerely

With the entry and parking both free and open
from 10.30am until 4pm on both the Saturday
and Sunday it was indeed a popular event with
so much going on for all ages.
You could also get 3 bags of compost loaded
into your car on the way out for just 1.
Greenbuild is a fantastic event for those who
want learn how to lead a greener lifestyle.
There were exhibitors of green technology like
solar panels, electric bikes & cars, experts on
hand to give advice, alongside the local and
traditional products such as timber framing,
traditional carpentry and heritage plastering.
The talks and advice from exhibitors were
given covering everything from growing
your own food, advice on heat pumps and
biomass boilers to retro-ftting houses for
energy and carbon savings.
Waste & Recycling, Civil Contingencies, Food
Safety and Environmental Services teams were
also there chatting to visitors and answering
any questions they had.
This event offerered something for the whole
family, with plenty going on to keep children
entertained, including theatre shows, face
painting, a free childrens quiz with prizes
and a chance to make bumble bee homes with
NNDCs Countryside team.
Not forgetting the numerous food stalls with a
choice of excellent fresh, delicious homemade
and organic produce, we stocked up on bread
and cake to take home and bought a bar of
coconut soap from the Deli Soaps (Above)
that looked good enough to eat.

Elaine Stockdale the beauty classes judge had
her work cut out judging classes ranging from

The sausage eating races organised by Barbara

with the overall winner Bernie Mitchell with
her dog Brooke.
The next Fun Dog show will be Sunday 12th
April 2015 the weekend after the Spring Yard
Sale which will be on Sunday 5th April 2015.
On Saturday 28th September we have our next
fundraiser - a Book sale at the Pilgrim Shelter
from 1pm, over 1000 books at just 20p each,
plus homemade cake just 50p a slice with tea
at 50p a cup, Free Parking & Free Admission.
Proceeds from this and all our events will be
going towards the new Trimingham Village

Shelter has very few years left before nature
takes its course and it goes over the cliff!
This new feld has been bought adjacent to
Woodlands Holiday Park, and all we need
After chatting to a fellow Kiwi (Above) who
was giving advice on Solar Panels, we began
to head home, with a very small oak tree that
we got for free from the Green Party stand in
exchange for taking their ink cartridge
recycling envelopes.
All in all it was an interesting, enjoyable and
very informative couple of hours which was
as usual well worth visiting.

By all accounts while chatting to a

On Saturday 6th September,Vic Cayzer
celebrated his 70th birthday at the
Royal Hotel in Mundesley along
with his family and friends and
in total about 80 guests turned
out to celebrate.
Cathy and Vic (on right) celebrated in
the newly ftted out function room of
the Royal which certainly looked
brilliant, with all the decorations
for such a great evening, that
was enjoyed by everyone.
Another Great Day Out
It has now become an annual event for us to
visit the Garden Fete at Thornage Hall, so on
Saturday September 7th, we spent a delightful
afternoon with friends at their 25th Garden
Fete at the Hall, a few miles from Holt.
Thornage Hall is an independent charity set in
70 acres of countryside, providing accommodation,
learning and work opportunities for adults
with learning disabilities.
It really is a lovely setting in a lovely part of
Norfolk and the ideal place for a Garden Fete.
I would in fact encourage readers to visit this
time next year. So look in your Crab Tales
next September for the details.
During the day, after the
opening at 11.30, various
events were taking place
place, including the
chance to listen to
Trix n Stix
(Above)
Having heard them once
before, we still found the
group well worth getting
to see again.
Parked under the trees
(below) the visitors all
seemed to be enjoying
their drumming.
We did not get to see anything
of the dog show but by all
accounts this all went off
very well. (Below)
Along with perfect weather the
day was a great success and the
variety of interesting stalls were
all doing great business.
Lis stocked up on all kinds
of vegetables, grown in the
gardens of the Hall and while
we were having our lunch it
was fascinating to watch the
Llamas, who were defnitely
posing for photo shots.

Sunday September 14th
After last years terrible weather the Ingworth
Trosh (although now Erpingham/Colby way)
was blessed with no rain and a smattering of
sunshine.
This year the Trosh supported no less than three
threshers (two Ransomes and one John Deere
American thresher) which must be a record all
in one place.
They threshed wheat & baled straw all afternoon
much to the delight of everyone there.
This alongside two traction engines in full steam,
multiple vintage tractors both static & ploughing,
classic cars, and an enormous modern combine
and beet harvester for comparison.
Record Crowds For The Trosh
Heartfelt thanks must go to all those people who
put in so much time, effort & money to make the
Trosh such a success this year, but a special thanks
to Alan Witham who is most instrumental in
organising the event year on year and to the
Alston family for very generously letting us
borrow their felds.
The Trosh raised about 6,400 for the upkeep
of the 3 medieval churches of Alby, Ingworth
and Erpingham.
Thanks very much to Helen Burrell for sending
us this article, also to Eduardo Garcia for these
wonderful photographs and congratulations to
his dog Oscar for winning frst prize in the
happiest & waggiest dog competition.
The rural theme
continued with an
impressive display
of sheep shearing
and then a Fun
Dog Show.
Every size & shape
of dog imaginable
and all so very well behaved! Everything
from A Bad Hair Day (for the scruffest
dog) to that Most like its Owner.
Childrens fun rides, owls and other birds of
prey provided fun for all the family as well
as a plentiful supply of stalls and displays
and a large refreshment tent.
Erpingham Church next year is commemorating
the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt
when Sir Thomas Erpingham led the long bow
archers to certain victory and on this weekend
next year (i.e. Sept, 12th & 13th) there will be
a spectacular Medieval Pageant on felds near
the church, so an archer from the Black Knight
Historical was there to talk to people about
that and medieval archery.
But never fear the Trosh will take place in 2015
most probably on the following weekend.

Wanted Artists!
A recent exhibition by a Nth Walsham group
of artists illustrated just how attractive the
venue of Thorpe Market Church is.
A continuous run of screens at the back and
along both sides of the nave can provide
78 feet of vertical screens.
Table tops placed across the pews offer further
effective display space and the windows can
be blacked out if required & modern lighting
has been installed.
In the past up to four exhibitions by local
community groups a year have taken place
in Thorpe Market Church.
The thought is that smaller private exhibitions
could also be accommodated, using fewer screens
and perhaps for shorter periods of time.
The churchs exhibition facilities are freely
available for individuals to show their
talents in a very attractive venue.

You cannot but like and admire Roy, for all the
time and energy that he and his family have put
into this venture.
I would encourage readers to visit his website:
davenportmagickingdom.co.uk to get an idea of
what it is all about, then go to one of his shows.
We went and enjoyed, very much, his Old Time
Music Hall show which, as well as including
two spots of Roy doing his magic routines,
featured a group of two ladies & a couple of
gents performing various traditional Music
Hall numbers which had the jolly audience
singing along to all the well known songs.
During the interval we enjoyed a drink in the
beautifully decorated bar which was full of
various magical items on display. (Above)
This was the frst time I had been into Roys
Kingdom, but it will not be the last, far from
it as it was a great show in an amazing venue
which we all enjoyed. We will be back for
more, thanks Roy.

Well Worth Going
Along To
On Saturday the 13th, along with friends we
went to see a show at Davenports Magic
Kingdom on the Cromer Road just outside
North Walsham.
The 15,000 sq ft attraction opened its doors
in May last year, boasting that it is Britains
largest collection of magical memorabilia,
also incorporating a theatre for live magic
shows, shop and cafe.
After just one season, Davenports Magic
Kingdom has been ranked 21st out of 260
Norfolk attractions by online review site
TripAdvisor, beating favourites including
Bewilderwood and Norwich Castle.
Roy Davenport learned his trade through
grafting countless hours each day in order
to perfect its secrets and has spent the past
nine years fat out planning and creating
Davenports Magic Kingdom.
His earliest memories are of fnding things to
play with in the familys London magic shop
while his mother served customers.
At six he had taught himself his frst tricks
and gave his frst public performance aged 10,
working with Hungarian magician The Great
Kovari at the Polka Theatre, in Wimbledon.
At 11, totally bitten by manipulation tricks
involving sleight of hand he spent 12 hours
a day practising and at 15, he stunned every-
one by taking the title in the British Magical
Championships.

Roys great grandfather Lewis became the
family breadwinner at just 8 yrs old when
his father died and Lewis eked out his
wage as a cooper by juggling in pubs
for a few farthings.
His skills grew and he began both performing
magic and making tricks to sell. In 1908 he
opened the family shop, Davenports Magic
in the Mile End Road, still going strong and
run by Roys brother Bill in Charing Cross.
Lewis then began the unique magical collection,
which the family has added to over the years
and in 1984, Roys father, Fergus, began to
think about showing the collection to the
public but his 30-yr effort to establish a
museum in London, Manchester, Bristol
and Cornwall were all thwarted.
Roy kept his fathers dream alive and while he
was appearing in the 1999 Cromer Pier Show,
he & his wife decided to make the county their
home and move the collection to Norfolk.
(Above and below)
The wonderful Bar and Cafe layout.
Farmer John
Farmer John once lived on a quiet rural high-
way but as time went by, the traffc slowly
built up and eventually got so heavy and
so fast that his free range chickens were
being run over, at a rate of 3 to 6 a week.
So Farmer John called the local police station to
complain: Youve got to do something about all
these people driving so fast and killing all my
chickens, he said to the local police offcer.
What do you want me to do?
asked the policeman.
I dont care, just do something about those
crazy drivers!
So the next day the policeman had the Council
erect a sign that said: SCHOOL CROSSING
Three days later Farmer John called the
policeman and said:
Youve still got to do something about these
drivers. The school crossing sign seems to
make them go even faster!
So again, they put up a new sign:
SLOW: CHILDREN AT PLAY.
That really sped them up.
So Farmer John called and said:
Your signs are no good.
Can I put up my own sign?
In order to get Farmer John off his back
the policeman said:
Sure. Put up your own sign.
The phone calls to the Police Station stopped,
but curiosity got the better of the Offcer,
so he called Farmer John:
Hows the problem with the speeding
drivers. did you put up your sign?
Oh, I sure did and not one chicken has been
killed. Farmer John said
The policeman was really curious and thought
hed better go out and take a look at the sign.
He also thought the sign might be something
the Police could use elsewhere, to slow the
drivers down....So he drove out to Farmer
Johns house.
His jaw dropped the moment he saw the sign.
SLOW: NUDIST CAMP
Thanks to David Thorne for this.

Icarus Hines Brings
Home The Banger
Icarus beat off the competition at the 10th Annual
Battle Of The Banger earlier this month to claim
the top prize of Peoples Choice.
Over 4,000 people attended the event held at the
Forum in Norwich, where most of the voters
chose Icarus Norfolk sausage, which was
also awarded the runner up in the Judges
and Sponsors choice category.
With such a vast array of favours it was tricky
deciding which variety to enter so Icarus turned
to Facebook to help. He thought it was obvious
which sausage to enter.
I was going to take our Traditional variety as
its our best seller but my family thought that it
would be a good idea to put it to a public vote
via Facebook, where we had a great response
and it surprised me when our Norfolk favour
received over half of the public vote. That
persuaded me to change my mind, and its
a good job I did. It just goes to show my
customers know their sausage.
All those who voted for their favourite sausage
were also entered into a competition to win a
years supply of Icarus Hines sausages.
David Hobart of Southrepps was announced as
the winner and Icarus expressed how good it
felt to tell David the news:
Being able to give something back to such a
loyal customer feels wonderful. I know that
David will make the most of his prize and
it will give him the chance to try every
one of our sausage favours.
Competition at Battle of the Banger was stiff
from the 5 other experienced butchers, so it
was no mean feat to come out on top.

How to Save Tax
Written by Miranda Marshall
Director at Hayes + Storr
Any Inheritance Tax saving scheme that looks
too good to be true almost certainly is.
There is a politician-lead crackdown on tax
avoidance scheme. This is more aimed at the
super-wealthy than the man in the street with
money in the bank or a house that is worth a
bit, but impacts on them too.
Whatever you own, or once owned but still
enjoy the beneft of, as well as anything you
have given away in the last 7 years is fair-
game for the taxman when you die.
I have written articles on using the various
small annual exemptions & allowances in
the recent past and those used consistently
are benefcial.
Joking apart, spending is a good way of saving
tax but spending too much can leave you
fnancially-stranded at the time when you
are most vulnerable.
Trusts are useful but are not a universal panacea.
What might work to protect assets from being
assessable for the cost of care might well not
work for tax-planning.
Social Services and the Local Authority apply
different tests to those of the taxman.
Inheritance Tax is saved for the beneft of ones
heirs and of course a solicitor has to be very clear
who their client is.
The solicitors duty is to their client and not to the
wider family (other than in a very secondary way).
Giving your house to your children only works
for Inheritance Tax planning if there is no gift
with reservation of beneft, which generally means
that you need to pay a market rent; whereas, an
asset protection trust (where your children own
your home but allow you to live there rent-free)
can still work for care fee protection if you
do it long enough before nursing or other
care is required.
It all depends on intention at the time of the gift
and is looked at together with all the facts and
circumstances. This may change in the future
as the cost of care spirals ever upwards and
Local Authorities have less money to go
round to spend on care of the elderly.
Norfolk is particularly as risk of having to take
a tougher line as we have a higher than the
national average proportion of older people.
Remember always that it is only when you are
worth more than 325,000 (or 650,000 in the
case of a married couple, or civil partners) that
Inheritance Tax will be paid on your death.
There is no one-size-fts-all answer.
Advice must be tailored to the individual and
their family and fnances. Even hard-bitten tax
advisors appreciate that schemes which save
tax, but at personal inconvenience, are often
not the answer.
The important thing is to take advice early
while you still have the health and energy to
implement arrangements, to do this before
a care home becomes anything close to a
reality, and (using your crystal ball)
more than 7 years before you die.
This article aims to supply general information,
but it is not intended to constitute advice.
Every effort is made to ensure that the law refer-
red to is correct at the date of publication and
to avoid any statement which may mislead.

specifc advice.

North Norfolks
NHS
Campaigners have called for the privatisation
of North Norfolks NHS services to be halted.
The call comes after it was revealed the North
Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
has budgeted for nearly 7m in private
contracts over the next fnancial year.
The Labour Party in Nth Norfolk - who obtained
the information through a Freedom of Informa-
tion request has said that voters need a proper
debate about the future of the NHS and that the
British public have never given their consent
for the outsourcing.
National statistics from the Labour Party shows
that NHS spending on private and other providers
has gone through the 10bn barrier for the frst
time. The total fgure budgeted for private
companies in North Norfolk stands at 6.8m
with the CCG adding some contracts do not
have a fxed contract value and are completed
on the basis of work completed.
Denise Burke, Labours Parliamentary
Candidate for North Norfolk, said:
The public have never given a mandate for the
government to carve up the NHS and for CCGs
to privatisation our health service in this way.
They even pledged no top down re-organisation
of the NHS. Since then for 2014 alone almost
7m has been earmarked in North Norfolk to
go to private providers, and the CCG admits
for some contracts there may be no limit to
the spending.
We want to see the Health Ministers halt this
outsourcing until after the General Election
next May so the British public can have their
say, and so the right values of the NHS can
be returned to its heart.

Fishery Latest Update
The Sheringham Gangway project is currently
with the Marine Management Organisation
for full approval after it received conditional
approval to go out to tender in June.
The project will see the refurbishment of the
launch gangway in Sheringham, along with
a new powered winch system and cooled
housing for hauling boats for the 20 or so
fshermen operating there.
An application for storage containers is also in
for assessment for West Runton & Caister; this
will see safe storage and minor repair areas
provided for those operating from these two
locations.
Solar safety lighting is also planned
for the Caister location to help with
year-round operations.

Artistic Licence ~ Photography & Painting
Exhibition from two Norfolk Artists
Painter & Photographer Samuel Thomas and
David Morris cross a few boundaries in their
different interpretations of Norfolk & beyond.
Samuel & David are 2 very different artists, although
one thing they have in common is their exploitation
of their artistic licence.
Samuel explains his point of view: As an artist you
have the right to be a little selective with the truth
and the world would be a very boring place without
it, rather I should say my paintings would be very
dull without my exploitation of artistic licence!
Artistic licence for me is a really interesting subject
says photographer David Morris, I have very definite
ideas on how far I would go with photo manipulation,
a lot of photographers will go a lot further - it doesnt
matter what you do, as long as you are honest with
people about how you work.
Samuel has recently finished painting one of the first
dragons for Norwichs GoGoDragons 2015 after
he helped to raise 29,300 for the BREAK charity
during the GoGoGorillas auction in 2013.
Samuel now sells art work via the web to customers
all over the UK and as far as the USA. Norfolk still
remains his home as does it for David Morris who
exhibits his stunning European and Norfolk inspired
photography portfolio, yet Norfolk still remains a
special place for both the artists in inspring them.
Meet these 2 artists at this 9-day long exhibition
at Cromers Red Lion. The event is part of the
Cromer & Sheringham arts festival over
half-term; www.casaf.co.uk.

The Rat Pack
Experience
The Rat Pack evolved from the trio of Sammy
Davis Jnr., Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra.
Some of the fnest Crooners that ever lived -
Music legends.
The Rat Pack Pack Live gentlemen are highly
regarded, well travelled & presented a full
programme of some of our favourite songs.
Their showcase combined warm lyrics and
soft hamonies with tender moments & rich
sounds in pumelling waves.
With songs like All of You - Thats Amore
and Lets Fall in Love and as the evening
progressed the audience felt more confdent
and affectionate with this generous helping,
stirred with exceptional artistry, skill &
professionalism.
I loved the new wording to When Youre
Smiling and The LADY is a tramp.
They gave us cheeky banter and they
were so charming.
The 4 musicians of the Rat Pack Band did an
exceptional job and I sat there bouncing around
to these infectious boys. I would have been quite
happy to join you when you visited your
Interesting Table at the side of the stage!
All of you were in immaculate, classy clothing.
Nothing beats Black Shirt - Black Bow Tie -
Cuff Links - Most diverting.
I trust, in your opinion, that Cromer provided a
scenic venue and a welcoming audience - cos
we were really happy with you guys.
It was a great experience hearing you live,
blending obvious friendship with harmony
and infectious energy.
You created an appealing production with song
and big band swing and it felt good to be part
of it. Hats off to you gents, we sure
Got You Under Our Skin

Promoting their newly
released, frst album
Daisy Roots the
Jigantics are touring
the country playing
at Festivals, theatres,
folk clubs & events.
One of the UK and Nu
Folk musics most
arresting new bands,
The Jigantics are part
of a growing group of
contemporary artists
appealing to a wide
range of music followers
who are increasingly
looking beyond the
conventional musical
stereotypes, and just
enjoying a fusion of great
songs, stunning harmonies
and fne muscianship.
In this case its a genre defying mix
of Roots, Blues, Trad, Country and
then some.
In live performance they carry the
audience with them on a journey
of foot stomping joy tempered
with only the occasional
heartbreak.
Seeing them live its
clear that this band
believe having a good
time is an essential
ingredient to any
gig, ensuring that
the road travelled
overwhelmingly
ends in a smile.

An Inspector Calls 2014
In the penultimate week of October
(22nd - 24th), a small but dedicated
cast will present J.B. Priestleys
signifcant and challenging drama
in the Coronation Hall.
The play was written at top speed
..within a week in the Autumn of
1944 by a man who had fought in
the Great War as a member of the
Duke of Wellingtons West Riding
Regiment and survived many of the
horrors of the Second World War.
For me, as Director, the relevance
of staging this play in 2014, the
centenary of the 1914 18 war,
is crystal clear.
Priestley saw a direct link between
the causes of that confict and the
global destruction that was brought
by the rise of fascism in the late 30s.
He wrote in one of his B.B.C.
Radio Postscripts in 1941:
One must stop thinking in terms
of property and power and begin
thinking in terms of community
and creation.
The enigmatic Inspector
warns not only the Birling
family, who are the central
focus of the drama, but also
all of his audiences, both
in 1944 and now, 70 years
later, in ringing Biblical
terms: We are members
of one body. We are
responsible for each other.
And I tell you that the time
will soon come when, if men
will not learn that lesson, then they
will be taught it in fre, blood and
anguish.
The irony of those words cannot be
lost on us today in a world daily
scarred by human folly and greed.
Whilst this is not a play for the
morally squeamish, it is a superb
piece of entertainment which,
with its tension-building dialogue,
examines both the dynamics of
family life as well as the origins
of twentieth century confict.
Dont miss this theatrical tour de
force, featuring the Mundesley
Players stalwarts - not dissimilar
to Priestleys Good Companions
- Ian Cashmore, Lesley Dillon,
